Santa Fe Klan Proves Mexican Hip-Hop Has a Place at Coachella
Image
Mexican hip-hop is on the rise — and if Santa Fe Klan’s Coachella run is any indication, it’s time we pay attention.

Those present for Peso Pluma‘s Friday night set got acquainted with Santa Fe Klan when the two MCs banded together for a fiery duet of their 2024 track with Argentine Mc Duki, titled “No Son Klle.” Sporting baggy Louis Vuitton streetwear and his signature bandana on his forehead, Santa Fe Klan paid respects to West Coast hip-hop by C-walking across the Coachella stage as he and Peso swapped verses.

Lana Del Rey’s Opulence, Peso Pluma’s Corrido History Lesson Shine at Coachella Day One
Image
Coachella 2024 kicked off Friday, and festival season is officially upon us once again.

With over 100,000 festival goers in the desert for this weekend’s debut, Day One was a stacked opening, with Lana Del Rey bringing out Billie Eilish for a duet, Shakira shocking the crowd and announcing a world tour during Bizarrap’s set, and Peso Pluma putting corridos on the world stage.

If Euphoria core influenced Coachella’s fashion in years past, 2024 has now gone cosmic cowboy as the silver boots and cowboy hats took over the festival grounds.

Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Showcase at SXSW Had Stars from Around the World and Lines Around the Block
Image
Over four nights in March, Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase at SXSW brought the stars of tomorrow to Austin’s famed Acl Live at the Moody Theater. Each night, the 2,750-seat venue was packed — not just inside, but outside, too. Ahead of the second night’s bill, which was topped by música mexicana superstar Peso Pluma, lines of fans stretched for blocks, including, reportedly, the longest line in SXSW history. (One fan got in line at 4 a.m. for a show that didn’t start for more than...

Jasiel Nuñez, Peso Pluma’s Go-To Songwriter, Is Ready To Make It Big
Image
If you ask Peso Pluma what he likes most about his compa Jasiel Nuñez, he’ll tell you it’s his pen. He’ll go off about the musician’s ability to express himself about love and life through complex metaphors and visual storytelling. It’s probably why he signed Nuñez to Double P Records.

“The way he writes and shares his feelings through the paper is very special. He has so many lyrics and anecdotes,” Peso says. “I listen to what he does every day and I know he...

Flo Milli Rules the Stage at SXSW as Her Album Drops — Literally
Image
On Wednesday night, Peso Pluma headlined a night of music that careened from música mexicana to urbano to Norteño-inflected folk at Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase, causing lines around the block. The next evening, the showcase pivoted in another, no less potent, direction, mixing up hip-hop with innovative sounds from Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, and more.

Preacher, a.k.a. Keite Young, came out and showed he wasn’t messing around. Flanked by a five-piece band and 10-member choir, the singer launched right into a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.

It was 4 a.m. when Carlos Contreras showed up at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas — more than 16 hours before cover-star Peso Pluma took the stage for Rolling Stone’s second annual Future of Music SXSW showcase.

The avid concert-goer arrived early to make sure he was the first in line, and it paid off. By midday, the line for the showcase was several blocks long; in the evening, it reached an estimated four-mile length.
