The Flash may be one of DC's revered heroes, standing proud among Justice League icons like Superman and Wonder Woman, but he also has a dark side that most aren't aware of. Beneath the Flash's carefree attitude lies a simmering rage that, when brought to the surface, results in him carrying out actions that put him on par with his most malicious villains.
Multiple heroes in DC lore have been chosen as the Flash, and they've all unleashed their inner darkness at one point. Whether it's during a heated battle with a nemesis or a dispute with an ally that gets taken a step too far, the Fastest Man Alive can take a shockingly sinister turn when the situation calls for it, so the Justice League should be grateful that he's on their side - for now, at least. Idw's line of ongoing Star Trek comics have already made many stellar contributions to the franchise's sprawling lore, but perhaps its most touching thread has been the deepening of Spock and Worf's friendship – as Spock openly affirms that the Klingon is his last living friend in the latest issue of the Defiant series.
Star Trek: Defiant #21 – written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Angel Unzueta – solidifies the connection between two of Trek’s most beloved characters, with Spock going as far as to say their relationship is “no less strong” than the one between him and his oldest allies.
The development of this bond across multiple generations of Trek has been pivotal to making Defiant a definitive portrayal of both Worf and Spock – a duo fans didn’t realize they needed until it was given to them.

The "Conspiracy" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation was a disturbing one and a missed opportunity for a follow-up story. A forthcoming arc in Star Trek: Defiant will bring back the aliens from "Conspiracy," continuing Idw's streak of taking obscure story elements and spinning gold out of them. The upcoming arc in Star Trek: Defiant will infuse body horror into the mythos, satisfying fans' desire for a dark Star Trek story.
Star Trek: The Next Generation’s most disturbing episode is set to return in a new body horror nightmare. Star Trek’s future is bright and optimistic, but more than a few episodes have depicted the horrors that come with life in space. “Conspiracy,” airing during The Next Generation’s first season, was one such episode, and now it is getting a sequel in forthcoming issues of Star Trek: Defiant.
