Ridgely Abele

  • Ridgely Abele was a member of Harvest Church.
  • Ridgley Abele died from cancer on December 10, 2009. His funeral was held at Church of the Harvest in Lexington, SC.
  • Ridgley Abele ran Columbia School of Karatedo until the time of his death. In 1998 he would teach karate to students at Glenforest School in West Columbia, SC. He was famous for saying, "We lead by example. We are responsible. So there is no excuse for bad manners." This saying became the mantra for his karate students.
  • In 1979 Ridgely Abele opened up Columbia School of Karatedo. He would often give karate lessons at The Tri City Leisure Center in West Columbia, SC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ridgely Abele encouraged his students to put school and other responsibilities before karate.
  • Ridgely Abele's other titles were Chief Instructor of Shuri-ryu, Gold Medal Kumite, and Teaching Karate Essential Principles. Mr. Abele began karate in 1964 and he started writing about karate in the early 80s.
