The revered cinematographer was making an apocalyptic musical with Tilda Swinton deep in a salt mine when he realised he had to flee. Can he now save his son?
It was March 2022 and Joshua Oppenheimer was waiting at Copenhagen airport for the young man who would be staying with him for a few weeks. Oppenheimer, who directed two devastating Oscar-nominated documentaries about the 1965 Indonesian genocide, The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence, had been working closely with Russian cinematographer Mikhail Krichman. He was now preparing to make The End, an audacious musical about the last family on earth hiding in their bunker following a climate-related apocalypse in which they were complicit. And Mikhail’s 22-year-old son, Vlad, was travelling to Copenhagen to participate in a workshop addressing the challenges implicit in The End, which was to be shot partly in German and Italian salt mines.
Oppenheimer had never met Vlad before,...

The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth
The Indrani Mukerjea Story finally started streaming on Netflix after being stopped twice by the judiciary.
If the truth be told, the ostensibly buried truth should have remained there. As we watch this devious woman’s highly tangled and frankly sordid life unravel in four episodes of interviews with the people who form the core of this malfunctional family, we realize that the term “malfunctional” was perhaps coined for this weird family of closeted sociopaths, and if not outright homicidal characters then potential assailants with highly scheming minds.
While the first episode lays down the ground rules for the Bora/Mukerjea family (the ground rules being that there are none) the second episode is the Sakshat Prakat moment when the lady at the vortex of the mayhem makes an appearance.
Yes, folks. Brace yourself. For Indrani Mukerjea has given the makers of this misguided crime investigation docu-series a one-to-one.

A still from ‘Every Little Thing’ (Photo Courtesy of Sundance Institute)
Grab your tissues and prepare to have your heart stolen by delicate yet fierce creatures in Every Little Thing. Directed by Sally Aitken and inspired by Fastest Things on Wings (written by hummingbird rehabilitator Terry Masear), this inspirational and moving documentary focuses on one cycle of hummingbird rescues. The sorrow and joy of watching these tiny birds go from sick and injured to, in the best-case scenario, being set free to thrive in the wild is told with a loving touch and truly astounding cinematography.
Masear has been rescuing hummingbirds in Southern California since 2004. During that period, she’s come to understand these gorgeous little birds in a way not many people can. With the most delicate of touches and a soothing voice, Masear assures the tiny creatures that they are safe and that she’ll do everything in...

Colossus has undergone a significant transformation in the past year, notably the Earth-616 version, whose mental manipulation by his brother, forcing to act against his friends and team, finally came to a head. Colossus's actions in Ultimate Invasion reveal a different side to his character, as he willingly participates in deceiving the global populace for the sake of "peace" and his own prosperity. It will be challenging for Colossus to regain his traditional role as one of the X-franchise's moral compasses, but he must seek redemption and forgive himself for his past actions.
It’s been a difficult year for Colossus, as he has transitioned away from being a moral compass for the X-Men. In both the standard Earth-616 timeline, and the Ultimates Universe, Piotr made a serious deviation from his usual, upstanding role. Now he’s gearing up to face some of the consequences, in both continuities.

After the success of horror film “Deleter,” actor Nadine Lustre and filmmaker Mikhail Red have teamed again on genre film “Nokturno.”
“Nokturno” revolves around a curse brought on by Filipino folklore characters known as Kumakatok, who are tall, thin and have long, pale fingers. They wear veils that obscure their faces and come knocking in the dead of the night. Those who answer the door are cursed to die or lose a loved one in three days.
Lustre plays Jamie, an overseas Filipina worker who returns to her isolated home province when rumors of mysterious killings brought about by a primal curse begin to circulate. She must reunite with her estranged mother Lilet, played by Eula Valdez (the lead in Red’s 2018 Rotterdam title “Neomanila”), and face her family’s troubled past in order to survive the curse of the Kumakatok.
The cast also includes Bea Binene, Wilbert Ross, J.J. Quilantang...
