While Gummo, Trash Humpers, and Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine has always pushed the edge of cinema, his latest Edglrd projects certainly bring him into a new echelon. Following his infrared crime thriller/nightmare Aggro DR1FT, he’s back with Baby Invasion, which sports a brand new score from Burial. Following its Venice premiere last fall and ahead of its unique NYC event this Friday, the first trailer has now arrived.
This Friday’s event will take place at Queens’ Knockdown Center and will feature Korine deconstructing and mixing the feature film like a DJ set, transforming Baby Invasion into a pulsating, hypnotic experience. The event, which one can get tickets for here, will also feature live DJ sets by Harmony Korine/Edglrd, Doss, Eyedress, and Yves Tumor.
Here’s the synopsis: “An ultra-realistic, multiplayer Fps game follows a group of mercenaries using baby faces as avatars through the use of AI.

Hacksaw Ridge is a 2016 biographical war movie about Desmond T. Doss - a veteran of WW2 and a conscientious objector who serves as the combat medic for the 77th Infantry Division. Ridiculed for his faith and consigned as the company coward, Doss goes above and beyond when his division becomes trapped on Hacksaw Ridge with only him left to keep the injured men alive.
The movie, directed by Mel Gibson and written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight, was nominated for six Academy Awards, of which it won two. Hacksaw Ridge is a brilliant and brutal look into the nature of war and worthy of a stream, and given it's coming to a streaming platform soon, Peacock subscribers can take to viewing it as Doss took to saving lives, "Give me one more!" Hacksaw Ridge will start streaming on Peacock on March 31.

In 2006, Mel Gibson was just about the most controversial guy in Hollywood. But he was, let’s all admit it, still an icon of the screen. As such, some people still had a lot of faith in him. And that faith would be translated in Hacksaw Ridge. There was the faith of its central figure, Desmond Doss; that which the producers and studio put into Gibson; and that which Gibson himself had in the project, which would tell of a conscientious objector during World War II. A gamble? Absolutely. A success? Unprecedented. So pick up that weapon, soldier – or, better yet, be at ease – as we find out: What Happened to This Movie?!
Hacksaw Ridge centers around the real-life figure of Desmond Doss, who served as a medic during World War II and became famous for his refusal to carry a weapon. Even still, he is credited with saving 75 lives while in action.

Will Cullen Hart always seemed like he existed outside of time. The beloved Southern musician and visual artist, who died at age 53 on Nov. 29, spent his life writing and recording some of the most stunningly profound, beautifully naïve psychedelic music ever made. He was at the heart of the loose assemblage of visionaries called Elephant 6 from the time it began with four high school friends in Ruston, Louisiana, in the late Eighties. In the decades that followed, after they moved their center of operations to Athens, Georgia, many more people...

Will Cullen Hart, a co-founder of the Elephant 6 collective and member of bands such as The Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System, and more, has died. He was 53 years old.
Hart passed away on the morning of Friday, November 29th of natural causes, “suddenly, peacefully,” according to a Facebook post made by fellow Elephant 6 founder (and The Apples in Stereo frontman) Robert Schneider. In a tragic circumstance of timing, Hart’s death occurred on the same day that The Olivia Tremor Control released their first new music in over a decade: the songs “Garden of Light” and “The Same Place.”
In his post, Schneider explained that the songs were originally intended to be part of a concept album by The Olivia Tremor Control, but the project was halted after the death of badmember Bill Doss in 2012. Real-life hero Desmond Doss saved 75 soldiers in WWII without firing a shot, as depicted in the 2016 biographical war film Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Mel Gibson. Despite some minor changes to the story, Hacksaw Ridge was praised by Doss's son for its historical accuracy. Andrew Garfield's role in the film helped grow his fame, earning him his first Academy Award nomination.
Although Andrew Garfield is arguably best known for playing Spider-Man, he also earned a well-deserved Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Desmond Doss in the 2016 biographical war film Hacksaw Ridge. Hollywood casting can be a fickle thing. But for actresses who’ve graced the silver screen as Spider-Man’s love interest, there seems to be a recurring theme – a hidden talent for tennis!
A still from Spider-Man
Believe it or not, all three actresses—Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Zendaya—who have portrayed Spider-Man’s love interest on the big screen share a surprising connection to the world of tennis.
It’s not merely a coincidence; each of them has actually portrayed a tennis player in different movies, following their roles in Spider-Man flicks.
Spider-Man Actresses Have Unexpected Tennis Connection
The first connection in this web of coincidence takes us back to 2004’s romantic comedy Wimbledon. Kirsten Dunst, who famously portrayed Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy, took on the role of Lizzie Bradbury, a determined young tennis player on the verge of success.

Mel Gibson's historical movies, including Braveheart, The Patriot, and Apocalypto, have been criticized for their historical inaccuracies despite their box office success and accolades. Braveheart, for example, won Oscars but was heavily criticized by historians for its inaccuracies regarding the life and leadership of William Wallace. Hacksaw Ridge, on the other hand, faced less criticism as its factual inaccuracies were less numerous and it stuck to the essence of the real-life hero Desmond Doss's story.
Three of Mel Gibson's big historical blockbusters share one major criticism. Outside of his roles in action movies like the Mad Max and Lethal Weapon franchises, Mel Gibson has also ventured into screenwriting and directing, with historical epics being a significant genre in both facets of his career. While Gibson's historical dramas have earned plenty of accolades, including numerous Academy Awards, they also haven't been without their share of criticisms.

The Golden Globes has dropped 18 voters who are former members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and will not be voting for the 81st awards, TheWrap has learned.
The Globes sent an email informing studios of the change, which was obtained by TheWrap, and did not give a reason for the change. The list included three people – Munawar Hosain, Aniko Navai and Howaida Hamdy Serour – who were expelled after investigations into violations of the Globes’ code of conduct. Two of those members, Hosain and Hamdy Serous, had been investigated by TheWrap.
All the members had been among the former HFPA members who were paid $75,000 per year under the agreement to sell the organization to Eldridge Industries.
The Globes did not respond to a request for comment on the email to studios, or to explain why the members had been dropped as voters.
The awards are scheduled to take place on Jan.

The ending of Hacksaw Ridge showcases Desmond Doss's incredible bravery and perseverance in saving the lives of wounded soldiers, solidifying his story as a heartwarming tale of heroism and leaving questions in the mind. Desmond Doss was injured by a grenade after saving 75 men alone above Hacksaw Ridge, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman. He lived with his wife Dorothy until her death in 1991, and continued to live until 2006. The capture of Hacksaw Ridge was instrumental in the larger Battle of Okinawa being won, providing a foothold for the planned invasion of mainland Japan. However, the development of the atomic bomb led to Japan's surrender shortly after.
The ending of Hacksaw Ridge is a brilliant culmination of the World War II story, yet some questions linger after the credits roll. Hacksaw Ridge was directed by Mel Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield as combat medic Desmond Doss.

Hacksaw Ridge is a unique war movie that celebrates the preservation of lives rather than bloodshed, focusing on the heroic efforts of pacifist Desmond Doss. Doss spent a grueling 12 hours on Hacksaw Ridge, saving the lives of 75 people, including his captain, with his acts of bravery as a combat medic. Doss deflected enemy grenades and sustained injuries but remained at the top of the cliff, refusing to leave until all injured soldiers were brought to safety.

War movies can realistically depict warfare by focusing on the perspectives of soldiers themselves or by using handheld cameras for a documentary-like feel. Realistic war movies capture the horrors of war while still being cinematically engaging, such as Hacksaw Ridge, Lone Survivor, and Saving Private Ryan. Directors like Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg have successfully recreated war with a sense of realism, immersing the audience in the harrowing experience.
From the evacuation in Dunkirk to the burning of the church in Come and See, some of the best scenes from war movies have a harrowing sense of realism. The inherent spectacle of cinema means that it’s difficult to make a war film that accurately depicts the horrors of warfare without turning the firefights and foot chases into action-packed Hollywood entertainment.
