‘100 Candles Game: The Last Possession’ Review
Image
Stars: Magui Bravi, Nacho Francavilla, Josefina Farina, Justina Ceballos, Zhon Li, Agustin Olcese, Pachi Lucas, Iago Illescas, Maite Solsona, Brett DelBuono | Written by Camilo Zaffora | Directed by Carlos Goitia, Guillermo Lockhart, Andrés Borghi, David Ferino, Ryan Graff, Maximilian Niemann, Jerónimo Rocha, Arie Socorro

I must confess to actually not seeing the first movie (100 Candles Game) that this is a sequel to. Thankfully, this being an anthology movie, it does not seem to matter. In this sequel “A team of influencer bloggers decides to hold a ritual at the mansion of the “black Countess”. A fan of the supernatural, she disappeared without a trace after she was offered to play a game that was supposed to take her to another dimension. By evoking the spirit of the Countess, bloggers let otherworldly forces into the world. The one who can bring the demons back will survive.” The anthology part comes firstly with...

‘Black Moon’ Short Film Review
Stars: Fabienne Tournet, Brett DelBuono, Jamie M Timmons | Written by Daniel Shafer | Directed by Ryan Graff

Black Moon is a horror short directed and with a story written Ryan Graff, who aside from working on a few short films, had done a ton of work as a sound mixer in film and television for over ten years. The screenplay was written by Daniel Shafer (a co-producer on the musical movie Rock of Ages). The film, which runs just over a short seven minutes, follows a young woman who is walking home under a black moon sky and is lured into a tunnel.

I loved the idea of this film, and thought that they nailed it in the short amount of time they had. Underpasses are creepy locations, and seeing them in horror films is, when they occur, usually very effective. I live not too far from an underpass and have...

Xoxo Review
Nightlife has notoriously been tricky for Hollywood to capture on film. Lean too hard into the chaos of it all, and you wind up with a nonsensical mess that barely hangs together as a coherent narrative. Steer too clear of the debauchery that it entails, and the resulting film is a toothless, flaccid imitation. More than most, Xoxo – the latest “Netflix original film” to hit the streaming service – tows that delicate line, delivering a fun (albeit lightweight) ensemble comedy/drama.

Like an Edm version of Love Actually, the film follows a disparate group of strangers as they make their way to Xoxo, the nation’s biggest festival devoted entirely to electronic dance music. Though a disclaimer at film’s end declares that its production is not affiliated with the real-life Portland-held event, it’s clear that this atmosphere was likely the inspiration for filmmaker Christopher Louie’s directorial debut.

Later Blaire's tied to a goalpost on the sportsfield and made to listen to the bullied student's complaints about her bullying to the Principal, before being stoned to death. Horatio (David Caruso) arrives at the scene to the sight of gawking students, many of whom must have been secretly relieved to see her no longer of this world. As he asks Tripp (Rex Linn) to clear the scene. Horatio finds stones were used from the construction taking place at the school, believing she was stoned. Natalia (Eva Larue) calls that 'archaic.' Horatio calls it "downright Biblical." Me Tom (Christian Clemenson) appears to relish the moment, once again. (No, imagine him secretly twiddling his moustache, everytime he comes across something new in his job,...

[DVD Review] The Cleaner: The First Season
It’s a testament to the star power and likability of Benjamin Bratt that The Cleaner is as compelling for as long as it is, which is however long it takes for the audience to realize how retrograde the show is in its political worldview. That may come in the pilot episode, when a confrontation between a teenage junkie and his concerned friend reads like it was written for an after school special, or later in the first season, when the results of drug addiction start to read like a laundry list of symptoms prophesied in Reefer Madness (death, bugged-out eyes, and lost teeth are all present here), but it will happen. This sort of nostalgia for the past in terms of drug politics keeps the show from ever getting the credibility required to merit the critical buzzwords such as “bold” and “gripping” that the show is so clearly gunning...

Bratt Pack
It took A&E six years to do a new scripted series - with a new show called "The Cleaner" starring Benjamin Bratt.

Maybe they shouldn't have rushed into it.

The purveyors of reality shows - from the great "Intervention" to the embarrassing "Growing Up Gotti" to the excruciating "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" to the disgraceful "Dog The Bounty Hunter" -A&E has had some genuine hits and misses.

Perhaps trying to ride the coattails of "Intervention," they have crafted an "inspired by real life...
