Picking a fantasy book series to start is an investment, so it's worth planning around one that can promise a strong ending. Due to the vast influence of Game of Thrones, the lateness of The Winds of Winter has become a common discussion among fantasy readers, leading many fans of the A Song of Ice & Fire books to turn elsewhere, looking for fantasy that has an ending. Fans of The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss will likely have a similar dilemma, as both reader bases have been waiting for the next volume since 2011.
Good fantasy endings can come in many different forms, be they happy and fulfilling, bittersweet, or downright depressing. Without spoiling what exactly happens in various books, it's worth mentioning the tone of these stories and how that reflects in the way they stick their landing. From Brandon Sanderson to Fonda Lee to R. F. Kuang, there are...

2025 looks like an exciting year for fantasy readers, as many enticing new books are joining the genre over the next 12 months. On the heels of 2024's impressive fantasy releases, it's a pleasant surprise that the category is continuing its upward trajectory. While more books are likely to be announced as the year continues, there are already a lot of stories to look forward to in 2025.
Several great fantasy series are continuing or ending this year, and their newest installments are among the genre's most-anticipated new releases. Onyx Storm is one book readers are waiting for with bated breath, but the conclusion to Tracy Deonn's Legendborn Cycle and the follow-up to Robert Jackson Bennett's The Tainted Cup are also high priorities for fantasy lovers. There are some exciting standalones hitting shelves as well, offering variety for those compiling their to-be-read piles for 2025.

Back in 2020, streaming service Peacock announced that it had begun development on a television series based on The Green Bone Saga, the crime family fantasy book series by Fonda Lee. Alas, it was not to be; in 2022, Lee announced that Peacock had halted development on the series. I'm still mad about it, because The Green Bone Saga is an amazing book series that is perfect for television, and it baffles me that some studio or other hasn't snatched it up yet.
If you're not familiar with The Green Bone Saga, congratulations, you probably just discovered some of your new favorite books. Primarily set on the island of Kekon, The Green Bone Saga introduced readers to a world where rival crime family clans vied for power and control of magical jade, which is used to imbue warriors with powerful abilities like super strength and agility. Think one part magical realism, one...
