Having grown up on the Rocky films, I’ve always been a big fan of boxing movies. It’s extended into watching other combat sports like Mma, and one thing that never gets shown enough in these films is the brutal weight cut. There have been stories of what fighters do to make what that are straight up horrifying, yet it’s often something that gets swept under the rug. Thankfully, The Cut changes that and finally gives us a look at the lengths athletes will go through in order to cut weight for a fight. I was able to see the film recently (check out my review Here), and...

Stars: Orlando Bloom, Caitríona Balfe, Gary Beadle, John Turturro | Written by Justin Bull, Mark Lane | Directed by Sean Ellis
Directed by Sean Ellis, The Cut takes a hard look at the darkest side of boxing – weight cutting – and turns it into a brutal psychological character study. Leading the charge is Orlando Bloom, who delivers one of the strongest performances of his career, stepping far away from his blockbuster persona and into the shoes of a broken, desperate fighter.
The film opens with Bloom’s unnamed boxer in the ring a decade earlier, a moment of weakness costing him dearly when a vicious cut above his eye ends his run. Ten years later,...

They it’s not the winning but the taking part that counts. Sometimes, getting to the stage where one can take part is the real battle, and in some sports, it can be dangerous.
When we first meet our unnamed hero (Orlando Bloom), who is listed in the credits simply as ‘Boxer’, he is fighting in what appears to be the last match of his life. A blow to the head leaves a nasty cut above his eye. He’s staggering. The referee has to step in, bringing it to an end. He’s had a decent run, but he’s going to have to accept that it’s over.

Plot: A retired boxer returns to the ring for one last shot at the title but only if he can make the weight. Holed up in a room in Las Vegas he embarks on an intensive and illegal weight cut program with an unscrupulous trainer.
Review: Boxing movies are often focused on the spectacle of the fight itself, with loud punches and the crowd going wild. But, as any boxing fan knows, the greatest battles are often waged before even stepping into the squared circle. And while the training is absolutely a key element in an individuals success, it can’t be discounted just how important weight cutting is in the sport.

[This story contains spoilers from “Needfire,” season one, episode five of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.]
From ancient mythology to Romeo & Juliet, stories about star-crossed lovers who fall for each other against their better judgment have become tales as old as time. After telling the hard-fought love story of time-traveling WWII nurse Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe) and dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) across eight seasons of Outlander, executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis felt it was only fitting that one of the new couples in their prequel — which centers around Claire’s and Jamie’s parents in 18th-century Scotland — would have a forbidden romance.
In Blood of My Blood, those star-crossed lovers are Jamie’s folks, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). Set against a backdrop of vicious infighting between rival Scottish clans, the prequel began in wake of the sudden death of Ellen’s father, Red Jacob (Peter Mullan), who was the leader of Clan MacKenzie.

Not up to a week after Outlander’s highly anticipated prequel premiered, fans of the historical drama have been dealt a huge blow. In January 2023, the series was renewed for its eighth and final season, with a premiere window set for early 2026 on Starz, as confirmed at San Diego Comic Con 2025. While that may seem somewhat promising, we’ve learned that the installment won’t launch on Netflix until much later, proving to be the most extended wait for a new season of Outlander.
In the US, Outlander Season 8 won’t be available on Netflix until two years after the finale airs on Starz. So, if the 2026 window still holds, subscribers can expect the installment sometime in 2028. This, as you may know, is due to Netflix’s deal for the show with Sony Pictures Television, which can only license to the streamer in the US after an exclusivity period of two years post-finale with Starz.

Audiences have returned to Bonnie Scotland with a couple of new love stories as Outlander: Blood of My Blood has premiered on Starz with two episodes dropping. The series is a prequel to the long-running romance drama, Outlander, which stars Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan in the lead roles of Claire and Jamie respectively. The new series chronicles events that happened in the lives of Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), parents of Heughan’s Jamie Fraser and Hermione Corfield's Julia Moriston and Jeremy Irvine's Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents. Some characters from the original series are poised to be part of the new series’ story, and there have been conversations surrounding Claire making an appearance as well.

The prequel to the hit Starz series follows the parents of Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe) during World War I and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) in 18th century Scotland.
The cast in Outlander: Blood of My Blood features Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy as Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine play Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.
During an interview with ScreenRant for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis explain why the series includes voiceovers from Julia. They explain that it is meant to be reminiscent of Claire's voiceovers in Outlander's earlier seasons and is crucial to the romance between Julia and Henry. Check out their comments below:

The Outlander universe continues to grow on screen with the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but to what extent was author Diana Gabaldon involved in its creation? Outlander is one of the most beloved and successful examples of period romance storytelling of all time, combining real-world history with the fantastical aspects of time travel.
Where the original Outlander series focuses on 18th-century Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and WWII nurse Claire Randall's (Caitríona Balfe) century-spanning romance, Outlander: Blood of My Blood instead reveals the stories of Jamie and Claire's parents. Since their parents play a nearly non-existent role in Outlander's storytelling, they were the perfect, consequence-free subjects for a prequel series.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts was asked about Outlander author Diana Gabaldon's part in creating the story of Claire's parents and...

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Review: Starz Prequel Is a Richly Rendered, Delectably Romantic Treat
In the Netflix dramedy Too Much, a brokenhearted American, Jess, makes the move across the pond, inspired in part by daydreams of stately castles, rolling green hills and dashing gentlemen professing their ardent admiration. She finds, instead, a scruffy musician in a dirty bathroom stall. The connection they strike up may not be the stuff fairy tales are made of, but it’s all the sweeter for being so raw and messy and real.
Or … maybe not. Starz’s latest Diana Gabaldon-based saga, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, is precisely the sort of thing that inspires moonstruck fantasies like Jess’ in the first place, filled as it is with scenic vistas, time-traveling contrivances and prettily suffering soulmates overcoming impossible odds. It’s also a reminder of how incomparably potent such a story can be when it’s done just right. Richly imagined, audaciously epic and, above all, unabashedly and deliriously romantic,...

This week marks the premiere of the hotly anticipated romantic period drama prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood on Starz. For viewers looking for more adventurous tales of love across time, like the Sam Heugan and Caitríona Balfe-led original series, however, Hallmark's latest miniseries may also be worth a look. Earlier this week, a new trailer was released for Providence Falls, a three-episode event following a rookie police detective pairing up with a visiting investigator, who's actually her reincarnated love sent to change her fate forever. The first episode, subtitled "Chance of a Lifetime," has already premiered on the Hallmark Channel, but it's now available through Hallmark+, with the other two installments dropping in the coming weeks.

As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got an inside look at the lengths Orlando Bloom went to for his latest role in The Cut — and it’s far more than just a grueling diet and training regimen. Director Sean Ellis took us exclusively behind the scenes of the film and revealed some incredible knowledge that shows just how committed Bloom was from the very start, as well as shouting out one of the unsung heroes of the movie. Ellis told Collider:
“When I first talked to Orlando about the project, my first question was, you are too good looking and don’t have a boxer’s face. He said that not only was he committed to losing the 26 pounds needed, he was already doing 4 hours of intensive boxing training a day, but he was also prepared to chip his teeth and have his nose broken. Luckily...

The Outlander Season 7 finale featured a major surprise for fans after Claire (Caitríona Balfe) discovered that she might be connected to a new character, Frances (Florrie Wilkinson). The logic was that Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire's daughter Faith, whom they thought was deceased, did indeed survive, and Frances was their grandchild. All of it was catalyzed by a song Claire heard Frances sing, a song from the 20th century that Claire used to sing. Did Faith survive and remember the song somehow? That's the mystery that carries into Season 8 — the final season. However, things are bound to get more complicated according to recent comments from a star of the prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Hermoine Coffield plays Claire's mother, Julia, and she teased that Frances' song might be a big connection between the world of the flagship series and that of the prequel. "There is meant to be a link,...

While Outlander once felt like a potential fantasy romance takeover for Starz, the series slowly faded from picking up nominations from award bodies. While the series was never quite the awards magnet many hoped it would be for the network, it has gained an extremely strong following. It’s no surprise that a prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, received the green light to go into a full series. As the original series prepares to end in 2026, a new series looking to pave a future for the franchise kicks off with gorgeous craftwork and strong performances. While it still features some of Outlander‘s flaws and a built-in audience, Starz has another hit on its hands.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Plot
The prequel series follows two timelines and intertwined stories across the centuries. After the death of Red Jacob MacKenzie (Peter Mullan), the power structures in the Scottish Highlands are changing.

There’s no shortage of boxing dramas in Hollywood, but only one features Orlando Bloom pushing himself beyond the limit. At the same time, John Tuturro makes Burgess Meredith’s Mickey from Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky look like a pussy cat in the relentlessly intense trailer for The Cut.
Anthropoid and Metro Manila director Sean Ellis directs The Cut from a screenplay by Justin Bull, based on a story by Mark Lane. The official synopsis for The Cut reads: After a career-ending defeat, a former champion trains for redemption – but as obsession takes hold and reality unravels, he may be spiraling into something far more terrifying.
Floating like a butterfly into theaters on September 5, 2025, The Cut stars Orlando Bloom, John Turturro, and Caitríona Balfe.
In the trailer for The Cut, Orlando Bloom’s boxer character has six days to gain 26 pounds if he wants to qualify for an upcoming title fight.
