‘Mayfair Witches’ Season 2 Episode 2 Recap & Ending Explained: What Is Lasher’s Plan?
Image
As of the second episode of Mayfair Witches season 2, the new season seems to be missing a structure to the story it’s trying to tell. Threads are going every which way haphazardly. And if I’m being completely honest, the style’s been pretty lackluster as well. Now, it might totally be my bias towards this show I love that’s making me hope they’ve got a plan for the episodes to come. And by that, I mean that I’m sincerely hoping for things to fall in place in a way that’ll draw us into this new struggle that Rowan’s motherhood seems to be. But for now, let’s see how an unruly Lasher is making life difficult for Rowan.

Spoiler Alert

That’s one way to introduce new witches, I guess

While I totally understand the need behind the creative choice, I’m still...

On Thursday evening, backstage in a dressing room at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Peter Rowan is plucking his guitar and quietly humming to himself. With less than an hour before showtime, the singer-songwriter will soon celebrate a band he created more than a half-century ago, one whose influence continues to loom large over bluegrass music — Old & In the Way.

“A lot of people who’ve picked up on Old & In the Way have gone deeper into the Stanley Brothers, Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Bill Monroe,” the 82-year-old tells Rolling Stone. “They follow the trail.

Working on 'Shifting Gears' Reminds Tim Allen of Annoying Alan Rickman While Filming 'Galaxy Quest'
Image
Tim Allen is back on TV in his new ABC sitcom, Shifting Gears, and in a recent interview he likened working on the series to acting alongside the late Alan Rickman on Galaxy Quest for one reason. While it seems that the sci-fi parody and Allen’s new grounded sitcom are worlds apart – literally – for Allen, there is definitely something that he feels about his newest venture that harkens back to the much-loved 1999 movie – the fun and chaotic working environment that drove Rickman to distraction.

Allen’s new sitcom, which also stars MCU’s Kat Dennings, has not been given the warmest welcome with its first reviews, landing “rotten” 44% and 46% Rotten Tomatoes scores from critics and audiences, respectively. This is a very different result to the stellar 90% Tomatometer score that Galaxy Quest landed over 25 years ago, when Allen was arguably at the height of his career.

However, it seems that...

"Without saying too much, a lot of things go down in the season finale that definitely open Cip's world up in a way that he was not expecting," he told ScreenRant. "Certain events [from Interview with the Vampire] are mentioned in Mayfair Witches,...

Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Image
Mayfair Witches Season 1 was a meandering mess with too many characters and insufficient payoff, so the only way was up for Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 1, which cranked up the pace and showcased that there may be life in AMC’s second Immortal Universe series after all.

The Wicker Man (1973): Ending, Explained & Themes Analyzed
Ari Aster at an event for Hérédité (2018)
Ever since Ari Aster’s deliciously horrifying “Midsommar” forever traumatized us, its Og inspiration, “The Wicker Man,” has also found a new life, or dare I say, “reincarnation.” The 1973 Pagan-themed horror is very much recognized amongst the genre aficionados anyway, and Midsommar’s popularity has only resulted in adding a handful number of members to the cult over the last three years.

I saw the movie many years ago without even having some basic knowledge, thanks to my habit of experiencing movies without having any kind of preconceived notion. A recent re-watch, thanks to this assignment, has, of course, allowed me to process things with far-developed sensibilities, both life and movie-wise.

While at the core, both “The Wicker Man” and “Midsommar” bear pretty much similar tasting fruit, the former has a much more straightforward narrative. That is natural, given it breathed the air back in the seventies, where terms like...

‘Baby Brother’ Review: Superb Performances and Audacious Style Anchor a Brutal Portrait of Generational Trauma
Image
Baby Brother, set in Liverpool, is not easy viewing for a number of reasons. Firmly in the tradition of Britain’s kitchen-sink realism movement, the gritty drama features copious amounts of brutality of both the emotional and physical varieties. It is also demanding of the audience in its storytelling, depicting two separate days years apart and alternating between black-and-white for the past and color for the present.

The results, not surprisingly, are at times disjointed. But Michael J. Long’s directorial debut showcases a stylistic audacity rare in a first-time filmmaker, and there’s no denying the raw power of this wrenching picture, which is receiving its world premiere at the Oldenburg Film Festival.

The story revolves around the relationship between Adam (Paddy Rowan) and his younger sibling Liam (Brian Comer), who don’t exactly enjoy the benefits of a happy home life. Their mother (Julia Ross), who struggles with drug and alcohol addiction,...

‘The Salt Path’ Review: Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs Lead a Sentimental Story of a Married Couple Removed From Their Home
Image
From the very first moments of the “The Salt Path,” frantically capturing the vestiges of one middle-aged couple’s life swept out to sea by a turbulent tide of saltwater and sorrow, director Marianne Elliott’s inspirational drama chooses a deliberately deceptive path and gets off on the wrong foot. It’s not until later that it’s discovered that this in-media-res attention grabber, which has shaded our view of these downtrodden souls’ transformative journey, is a distorted reality. It’s used to manipulate us into anticipating that their watershed moment will be dire, when it’s really their saving grace. Yet with understated performances from Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, as well as immersive land and soundscapes that enhance the thematic pull, this portrait of loss, humanity and rebirth makes it worth the emotional investment.

Fifty-somethings Ray Winn (Anderson) and her husband Moth (Isaacs) are having a rough go...

Immortal Universe Explained: Interview With The Vampire, Mayfair Witches & Tamalasca TV Shows
Image
AMC's Immortal Universe is expanding with new shows, with two already airing Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches and another Anne Rice spinoff in development: The Talamasca. Interview with the Vampire is the second time adapting one of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles book series after the classic 1994 movie adaptation starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The TV series sees Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac in the roles Cruise and Pitt originated. In it, Louis tells investigative journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) the story of his life, both before and after becoming a vampire.

The 2002 Interview sequel Queen of the Damned replaced Tom Cruise with Stuart Townsend and removed the character of Louis entirely. It got overwhelmingly negative reviews and flopped at the box office.

Mayfair Witches, meanwhile, follows neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Fielding who, after a series of troubling events at work,...

Brooke Shields’ Daughter Learned of Mom’s Sexual Assault While Watching ‘Pretty Baby’ Doc
Image
Brooke Shields’ youngest daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy, is opening up about the moment she learned of her mother’s sexual assault while watching her 2023 documentary Pretty Baby.

“I was learning about things the same time that the world was and I just took it more deeply and personally,” Grier recently told People magazine in a joint interview with Shields and her older sister, Rowan Francis Henchy. “I couldn’t even get through it.”

In Hulu’s two-part documentary, Shields’ explores her six-decade-long acting career, as well as reveals for the first time that she was sexually assaulted in her early 20s by a Hollywood executive, whom she did not name.

"We've wanted to live as normal a life as possible." Sky Cinemas has revealed their official trailer for a dark comedy called The Radleys, arriving in UK cinemas this fall. We missed this trailer when it first appeared but happy to catch up with it. The film just premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival last week, though it still has no US date set. Image
Mayfair Witches season 2 arrives in 2025, but it needs to be faithful to the books in order to offset negative reviews for season 1. Season 1 was released in early 2023, while Mayfair Witches season 2 has been confirmed to continue its story next year.

‘Girls State’ Review: ‘Boys State’ Doc Duo Checks in on the Equivalent (but Not Equal) Mock-Government Program
Image
The list of accomplishments high school student Emily Worthmore reels off early in “Girls State” sounds impressive at first. Then it becomes a bit concerning. It’s not that the personable teen from suburban St. Louis has padded her resume — hardly. It’s that her list has the feeling of a too tightly wound drive to hit the right milestones on the way to being, as she hopes, the president in 2040. “Every election I’ve put myself in, I’ve won,” she says, “since fourth grade.”

So it comes as no surprise that Worthmore is among three young women featured in the Sundance-debuting documentary who have set their sights on the governorship of Missouri Girls State. For their engaging female-focused followup to 2020’s Texas-set “Boys State,” co-directors Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss traveled to the Show Me State in June of 2022 to show us the American Legion Auxiliary’s annual program for high school girls,...

What We Know About Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy's 3 Children
Image
Actors Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have been together since 2006 and have two boys together - and now, as of 2023, they also have a baby girl. Their third child's arrival was confirmed by People on July 11, 2023, meaning that Danes and Dancy now have a sweet family of five.

In general, Danes and Dancy tend to keep their private lives off of social media, meaning we don't know all that much about their kids. Danes did open up about how her two oldest boys took the news about her pregnancy in January, though, and it sounds like they both had different views on their impending sibling. "[Our oldest], Cyrus, was sort of resigned to it. I mean, the worst has already happened, his name is Rowan," Danes said during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." "But Rowan has more to lose, like, he has more at stake. And he was categorically opposed to the idea.

Jamie Reid Dies: Artist And Graphic Designer For The Sex Pistols Was 76
Image
Jamie Reid, the artist and graphic designer whose work for the Sex Pistols defined the punk aesthetic, has died at 76.

His gallerist, John Marchant, confirmed his death. In a statement, he was described as an “artist, iconoclast, anarchist, punk, hippie, rebel and romantic. Jamie leaves behind a beloved daughter Rowan, a granddaughter Rose, and an enormous legacy.”

Reid met future Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren at Croydon Art School. That relationship blossomed into a collaboration on artwork for the Sex Pistols.

Reid’s best known work was for the Sex Pistols covers including the pink and yellow text of their only album, “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” and “God Save the Queen,” the hit single banned by the BBC. The latter featured a Cecil Beaton photo portrait of Queen Elizabeth II defaced by Reid.

He also contributed the smashed empty picture frame for “Pretty Vacant,” and...

Claire Danes & Hugh Dancy Welcome Their Third Baby
Image
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have welcomed their third child together, a baby girl whose name has not yet been announced.

They were spotted pushing a stroller while they were out for a walk in New York City.

Last month, the couple attended the Tribeca Flim Festival, where the expectant parents showed off Danes’ baby bump.

Danes briefly spoke about their third baby when she attended the Golden Globe Awards in January earlier this year.

“This one was not intentional,” she told Mario Lopez for Access Hollywood.

Although the third baby was seemingly unplanned, Danes said she and her husband were “thrilled” and “excited.” When asked about the gender, Danes exclaimed that they didn’t know yet and were “rolling the dice.”

Danes and Dancy have two other children: Cyrus, 10, and Rowan, 4.

In another interview, Danes told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that their two sons were not as thrilled as they were.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this year, Danes talked about being pregnant with their third child, which she said was “a surprise” and could be “the last” time she’ll be pregnant.
