Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Can Julia Survive the Battle for Her Baby?
Image
Well, colour me shocked and slightly disturbed. If you thought Outlander: Blood of My Blood was going to ease us into birth-giving with warm towels and supportive doulas, think again. Episode 6 kicks the door in with a muddy boot and a smirk, tossing all pleasantries out the window.

In last week’s episode, things at Castle Leathers were bubbling like a pot left unattended. Julia Beauchamp was knee-deep in lies, half-truths, and emotional landmines. After bedding Lord Lovat to protect her unborn child, she was branded everything from a manipulative Sassenach to a seductress who came bearing secrets. Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) felt thoroughly betrayed.

Meanwhile, Simon Fraser was still being…...

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Stars React to Traumatic Triple-Childbirth Episode: ‘I Was Absolutely Exhausted, Fighting for My Life!’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Birthright,” Episode 6 of “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” now streaming on Starz.

“Outlander” has always been a baptism by fire kind of experience for its actors. More than a decade into the franchise, the sweeping romanticism of author Diana Gabaldon’s story is matched only by a constantly evolving definition of trauma, leaving each character –– and the audience –– to brace for the brutality of life and whatever fresh hell awaits them around every corner.

Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) rounded that proverbial corner in the sixth episode of Starz’s prequel series “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.” In the span of the hour, Corfield gives birth not once but twice on screen, while Irvine plays out Henry’s mental collapse in real time. But before you worry too much for the actors, being handed that defining traumatic moment to chew...

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Team Breaks Down Prequel’s Most Heart-Wrenching Episode Yet
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the first six episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.]

When he first set out to create Blood of My Blood, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts thought he was only going to tell the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), who were mentioned in Diana Gabaldon’s original Outlander novels. But as he began to develop the long-gestating prequel, Roberts quickly realized that he would also need to tell the origin story of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), in order to sustain an ongoing series.

In true Outlander fashion, Roberts thought of an ingenious twist that would allow for the two sets of parents to cross paths despite being born two centuries apart. At the end of the series premiere, in a dramatic departure from the canon established in the original series, Julia and Henry survive a near-fatal car crash in the Highlands.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 6: Release Date and What to Expect
Image
Episode 6 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, ominously titled Birthright, is set to land on September 5, 2025, and by the looks of last week’s jaw-dropper, we’re hurtling straight into a storm of revelations.

Episode 5 left viewers reeling. Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) consummated their love in the chapel, far from the judgmental eyes of the Beltane Festival, while Murtagh (Rory Alexander), spurned and drunk, found solace in Jocasta’s lips, only to wreck it by moaning the wrong sister’s name. Meanwhile, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) was blocked from sneaking out to the festival by Davina, just as Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) scoured the grounds hoping for a reunion.

To celebrate the release of Outlander: Blood of My Blood – now streaming on MGM+ – we sat down with the amazing cast to find out all the secrets about the anticipated prequel!

The prequel is a romantic saga that unfolds across time. From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, two fated couples must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, unfolding in surprising and unforeseen ways.

After 11 years of epic romance on the groundbreaking series Outlander, the timeless tale continues – or rather begins – on the eve of an earlier Jacobite rebellion. A prequel to Outlander, the series explores the lives and relationships of two couples as they fight against all odds to be together: the parents of Outlander’s Claire Randall — Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine); and those of Outlander’s Jamie Fraser — Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Season 1 Episode 3: Release Date and What to Expect
Image
Episode 3 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is nearly upon us, and fans are already bracing for yet another chapter of forbidden love, clan power games, and centuries-crossed fates. The Starz prequel launched with a double premiere on August 8, airing every Friday at 8 p.m. Et. It brings two parallel romances to life: Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie in 18th-century Scotland, and Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston during WWI.

In Episode 1, Ellen is caught between loyalty and love as her father’s death sparks a leadership battle between her brothers. Meanwhile, she and Brian, of opposing clans, fall for each other in secret. Jocasta’s lingering glance at Murtagh adds an extra twist to the already tense gathering. Episode 2 dives into 1917, where Henry, a war-worn soldier, and Julia, a suffragette with a steel spine and photographic memory, fall in love through wartime letters.

But when both are flung back to 1714 via Craigh na Dun,...

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’: Will Murtagh Be in Season 1?
Image
Yes, Murtagh is back, and this time, he’s not just a shadow in someone else’s story. The much-anticipated prequel of Outlander, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has officially premiered on August 8, 2025, with its first two episodes already streaming on Starz. And with it comes the answer to a question that’s loomed over the fandom like a Highland fog: Is Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser part of this new chapter? A resounding yes, but not as you remember him.

Rory Alexander steps into the iconic role, offering a younger, livelier, more emotionally open version of Murtagh. Gone is the stoic curmudgeon played by Duncan Lacroix in the original series. Instead, Alexander’s portrayal is full of light, heart, and untamed energy. The kind of man who hasn’t yet had his spirit crushed by unrequited love or battle-scarred loyalty.

Set in 18th-century Scotland and partially in the aftermath of World War I,...

Outlander: Blood of My Blood - How the Prequel Changes Murtagh Explained
Image
Outlander: Blood of My Blood showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis explain why the prequel changes a fan-favorite original character. Instead of focusing on Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), this series revolves around their parents.

Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) are Claire's parents, while Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) are Jamie's parents. The series utilizies a World War I and 18th century Scotland timeline, and the latter features a younger version of the Outlander fan-favorite character, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.

During an interview with ScreenRant for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Davis and Roberts explain why the prequel's Murtagh (Rory Alexander) feels so different from the version played by Duncan Lacroix in the original show. They emphasize that the key difference is that the younger Murtagh has not had his heart broken yet. Check out their...

Diana Gabaldon's Limited Involvement in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Prequel Series Explained
Image
The Outlander universe continues to grow on screen with the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but to what extent was author Diana Gabaldon involved in its creation? Outlander is one of the most beloved and successful examples of period romance storytelling of all time, combining real-world history with the fantastical aspects of time travel.

Where the original Outlander series focuses on 18th-century Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and WWII nurse Claire Randall's (Caitríona Balfe) century-spanning romance, Outlander: Blood of My Blood instead reveals the stories of Jamie and Claire's parents. Since their parents play a nearly non-existent role in Outlander's storytelling, they were the perfect, consequence-free subjects for a prequel series.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts was asked about Outlander author Diana Gabaldon's part in creating the story of Claire's parents and...

‘Outlander: Blood of my Blood’ Stars Break Down Fated Love Stories, Tease Obstacles to Come
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Outlander: Blood of my Blood” Episodes 1 and 2.

As Starz prepares to bid farewell to Sam Heughan’s Jamie and Caitriona Balfe’s Claire when “Outlander” airs its final season next year, the franchise turns its attention to the fated love stories of their parents with prequel series “Blood of my Blood.”

Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy play Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who struggle with what the actors liken to a “Romeo and Juliet” conflict coming from rival clans, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine play Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, who unite amid the treacherous conditions of WWI only to be split up again.

As the newcomers took on the roles, they faced a careful balancing act of finding “core similarities” between their characters and either Jamie or Claire, while trying not to replicate Heughan’s or Balfe’s performance.

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Review: Starz Prequel Is a Richly Rendered, Delectably Romantic Treat
Image
In the Netflix dramedy Too Much, a brokenhearted American, Jess, makes the move across the pond, inspired in part by daydreams of stately castles, rolling green hills and dashing gentlemen professing their ardent admiration. She finds, instead, a scruffy musician in a dirty bathroom stall. The connection they strike up may not be the stuff fairy tales are made of, but it’s all the sweeter for being so raw and messy and real.

Or … maybe not. Starz’s latest Diana Gabaldon-based saga, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, is precisely the sort of thing that inspires moonstruck fantasies like Jess’ in the first place, filled as it is with scenic vistas, time-traveling contrivances and prettily suffering soulmates overcoming impossible odds. It’s also a reminder of how incomparably potent such a story can be when it’s done just right. Richly imagined, audaciously epic and, above all, unabashedly and deliriously romantic,...

‘Blood of My Blood’ Star Harriet Slater Talks Joining the “Tight-Knit” ‘Outlander’ Universe, the Perils of Scottish Weather and Period Drama Superiority

Harriet Slater is a self-proclaimed period drama superfan.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Premiere Review: Romance, Power Plays, and a Strong First Impression
Image
I’ll admit it — when Starz announced an Outlander prequel, my first thought was, “Do we really need this?”

Seven seasons deep into Jamie and Claire’s saga, we’ve been spoiled with epic romance, political intrigue, and the kind of gut-punch plot twists that would send lesser shows packing.

A prequel felt like a gamble, especially one without our beloved central couple.

(Courtesy of Starz)

But two episodes into Outlander: Blood of My Blood, I get it. This isn’t just an exercise in nostalgia — it’s a ruthless, romantic chess game set decades before Jamie and Claire ever locked eyes.

And the board is stacked with people who make the worst possible choices at the most dramatic possible times. It’s messy, it’s political, and it’s downright addictive.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Is A Sweeping Love Story

Let’s start with Elizabeth MacKenzie. Fresh off her father’s death,...

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Showrunner & EP on Growing the Franchise With Dual Love Stories
Image
When Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres tomorrow on Starz, it won’t just expand the Fraser family saga — it will explore two central love stories that shape the generations to come.

The prequel tells the tales of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), as well as Clare’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).

I spoke with showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis about the timing of the series, how they balanced the dual romances, and what it took to create a new chapter in the Outlander universe that can stand on its own.

(Starz)

Roberts explained that while Blood of My Blood may feel perfectly timed, the project had been in the works for quite some time.

“I pitched this quite a while ago, but I think the world kind of got in the way of us making it.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Review: The Deep Roots of a Romance
Image
The architects of the Outlander universe seem to operate on a principle of narrative determinism, a belief that a story’s present is irrevocably shaped by the ghosts of its past. With Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the franchise turns this belief into its central thesis, traveling back not just in time but in lineage.

This prequel abandons the familiar comfort of its central couple to excavate their very foundations. The series presents two distinct origin stories running in parallel. One is a tale of clan politics and forbidden passion in the damp, unforgiving Scottish Highlands of the early 18th century.

The other begins with the mechanized horror of World War I before taking a sharp turn into the unexpected. We meet the progenitors: Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, Jamie’s parents, and Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s. Their lives are presented as the crucial first dominoes in...

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Review: Starz Prequel Series Offers Fan Service at Its Flirtiest and Finest
Image
For more than a decade now, “Outlander” has held mooning fans (and single-show Starz subscribers) in thrall, captivating with its time-traveling love story, historical drama and very spicy sex scenes. And yet, given that it’s based on a series of books by Diana Gabaldon, the show’s ending is in sight, with its eighth and final season due out early next year.

Fortunately for Starz (and for kilt-lovers), Gabaldon’s “Outlander” universe has always been sweeping and expansive. While she wrote the original series of books, spanning decades and continents, Gabaldon was tucking away backstory details in her mind, building a family history for main characters Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall.

And thus began “Outlander: Blood Of My Blood,” the new prequel series from Starz. Framed around source material from executive producer Gabaldon, the series follows the romantic arc of two couples: Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy...
