Emilie Bierre and Joelle Farrow Join Emile Hirsch, Justin Long and Kevin Connolly in Parasite Horror ‘Lice’ (Exclusive)
Image
Upcoming high school horror “Lice” — about a parasitic invasion of lice that hits Long Island — has added a couple of names to its cast.

Emilie Bierre and rising star Joelle Farrow have joined Emile Hirsch, Justin Long and Kevin Connolly in the feature, described as a horror mashup of “The Breakfast Club” and “Lord of the Flies” and first announced by Variety in Cannes.

“Lice,” which recently wrapped production in Canada, marks the first feature from Connolly’s ActionPark Productions alongside partner Patrick Marino, and is billed as a “gruesome throwback to ‘80s high school classics.”

Highland Film Group is repping international rights, having launched sales at the Marché du Film.

Director/cinematographer Jonathan Bensimon makes his feature directorial debut with a script written by Anthony Musella and Shaun Harris (“The Hemingway Thief”), from an original concept by Connolly. The film is produced by Connolly, Jeremy Alter, and Gary Goldman,...

‘Glamorous’: Damian Terriquez & Kaleb Horn Join Netflix Drama Series As Recurring
Image
Damian Terriquez (All Rise) and Kaleb Horn (Hardy Boys) have been cast in key recurring roles opposite Miss Benny and Kim Cattrall in Netflix drama series Glamorous, from Jordon Nardino (Star Trek: Discovery) and Damon Wayans Jr.

Glamorous, which originally had been ordered to pilot at The CW in 2019, tells the story of Marco Mejia, played by Miss Benny, a young gender non-conforming queer man whose life seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job working for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). It’s Marco’s first chance to figure out what he wants out of life, who he actually is, and what it really means for him to be queer.

Terriquez will recur as Dizmal, a Bushwick fixture and drag performer who welcomes Marco (Benny) to the world of Brooklyn nightlife; while Horn will portray Nowhere, Glamorous by Madolyn’s (Cattrall) marketing assistant.

Medium Raw - Night of the Wolf

I had the pleasure of attending the premiere for Medium Raw last night and really enjoyed the flick. I’ll be honest, it has a few corny moments but it’s the villains in this piece that make it so worthwhile.

Dark Rising (DVD Review #2)
Dark Rising thinks it’s really funny. It’s not. Not so much a horror/comedy but a fantasy-esque/comedy with a monster, the film drowns itself in a lot of contorted wacky faces, broad shoulder shrugs, silly runs and musical cues that only emphasize how flat the punchlines have fallen.

The movie follows Jason (Landy Cannon), who has just been dumped by his high-school sweetheart Jasmine (Vanessa James) after having dated her forever. Jason has a plan, though: He and his jerky best friend Ricky (played by Jay Reso, a.k.a. WWE wrestler Christian) are going camping with Jasmine and her friends Renee (Julia Schneider) and Marlene (Haley Shannon); along the way, he can win her back. The problem is that Jasmine and Marlene are now more than just friends, and although Jason has dreamy hair, there’s no way he can contend with gratuitous lesbianism. Meanwhile, Renee...

[DVD Review] Dark Rising
Ah, to aspire to B-movie status and nothing more. Gone are the expectations of special effects, production values or even really having a plot. On the other hand, it leaves plenty of room for a movie full of comical interactions and out-of-this world setups that audiences just go along with. Dark Rising takes all these B-movie benefits and just piles on the cleavage, the fantastic plots and men in demon costumes. Lesbians? Yup. Scantily clad babes? Uh huh. Nonsensical greatness? A little bit of that too.

Jason (Landy Cannon) is just another one of those sad sack guys who can’t accept that his relationship with a girl has ended. He mopes around and pines non-stop about how great things were while his friend Ricky (Jason Reso) tries to convince him otherwise.

Meanwhile, Jasmine (Vanessa James), Jason’s ex-girlfriend, is busy buying a book on witchcraft with her two friends...

Canadian Horror Comedy Rising to DVD
Do you like your Canuck-produced Army of Darkness style comedies loaded with puerile sex jokes, lesbian make-out sessions, and topped off with a heaping slab of Canadian bacon by way of a hammy performance by a WWE wrestler? If so, we have good news for you: Dark Rising is coming to DVD this August.

"A broken heart, a battle ax, a demon, and a lesbian ex-fiancee... Jason Parks' life goes from bad to worse as a series of supernatural events turn his dream of reconciling with his ex Jasmine into a portal-seeking, demon-hunting nightmare. Featuring Jason "Christian Cage" Reso of the WWE and Tna Wrestling. Also starring Landy Cannon, Brigitte Kingsley, and Julia Schneider."

If you live in Canada, filmmaker Andrew Cymek's Dark Rising is already available at your local DVD shop and has been for months. That's how I was able to review it last September. Those...
