Casting News and Preliminary Artwork for Dave Reda's Love Potion #8
Indie Horror Month may be winding down, but that doesn't mean our love for and support of indie filmmakers is going anywhere, and one such project we're keeping an eye on is Dave Reda's new short film Love Potion #8. Read on for a casting update and the first bit of artwork.

As Reda told us previously, "[It's] the story of a guy who is of course a total flop with chicks so he goes to see a gypsy who tires to give him love potion #9, but it's a bit too expensive for him. So while she is in the back looking for something cheaper, he decides to steal love potion #8. Horrible things ensue..."

Dave co-wrote the script with Jon Rosenberg and will direct. Cast members signed on so far include Brooke Lewis (Ms. Vampy, Slime City Massacre), Jessica Cameron (who will also appear in Reda's upcoming feature Shadow), Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet,...

One of the most promising indie filmmakers we've come across here at Dread Central is Dave Reda, and he just dropped us a line with an update on two new projects he has in the works at Elftwin Films: a short film entitled Love Potion #8 and his second feature, Shadow.

So while she is in the back looking for something cheaper, he decides to steal love potion #8. Horrible things ensue..."

Dave continues, "It's very much my style - horror, comedy, romance - all mixed into one. I really feel it could be my best work to date! With the help of writer Jon Rosenberg, who helped me really flesh it out,...

Brian S- Hey Dave, first off how did you get into filmmaking?

Dave Reda- I had always wanted to be an actor, and wanted to do more... I knew a bunch of my actor friends that were incredibly talented that were also wanting more work. So, I created my sketch comedy show Click This!, and it turned into a 3 year crash course in film making. I had to learn how to direct, produce, and write as our show mocked every genre and style.. Indie Horror Month: Dave Reda's Top Five Independent Horror Films
Writer/director/actor Dave Reda has made a name for himself over the last few years with his indie genre projects including Bit Parts and his most recent effort, Horror of Our Love (which screened recently as part of the Los Angeles Comedy Festival).

We recently caught up with Reda (of Elfwtin Fillms) to find out what his top five indie genre projects are. Check them out below!

1. Hate* (*A Comedy) (Drew Daywalt and David Schneider)

This is one of my most favorite short films... A deadly vengeful speaking chicken and poison chimichangas?? This one is so well made and a total blast. Drew also is the director of the insane short film Polydeus, which is a crazy film centered around an 80's video game. The make-up on the creature is fantastic, too.

2. Death In Charge (Devi Snively)

This is such a cool short film, very well made, and an unusual Grim Reaper.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Horror of Our Love
As the old adage goes, good things come in small packages, so here at Dread Central we're always on the lookout for standout short films that deliver the goods, and this weekend we found one: Elftwin Films' "Horror of Our Love", a romantic horror comedy that twists the normal love story back until it breaks!

Producer/director/actor Dave Reda (Bit Parts, review here) sent over a copy of "Hool" for us to see, and while he wants to keep most of the details under wraps for a bit while he submits the combination short film/music video to most of the major genre film fests, he did provide us with a still along with a couple of behind-the-scenes photos. For more, including a video of outtakes, be sure to befriend Dave Reda on Facebook, and hit up the Elftwin Films website, too, while you're at it.
