Biography

    • Sridhar Rangayan is an Indian filmmaker whose compelling films present hard-hitting social issues with warmth, compassion and humor. These award winning films are at the forefront of India's emergent queer cinema movement - ground-breaking in a country where homosexuality is still socially unacceptable. His films include Evening Shadows, Breaking Free, Purple Skies, 68 Pages, Yours Emotionally! and The Pink Mirror (Gulabi Aaina).

He has served as Jury for prestigious film festivals such as Image+Nation LGBT film festival 2020 (Montreal), Mardigras 2018 (Sydney), Iris Prize 2013 (UK) Outfest 2012 (Los Angeles), Teddy Jury at Berlinale 2010 (Berlin) and Movies That Matter 2010 (Netherlands). He is the Founder Festival Director of India's biggest queer film festival KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, which created history by being the first queer film festival to be held at a mainstream theater in India. He is also the Founder Trustee and served as Board member for 19 years of The Humsafar Trust, one of India's oldest and largest community-based organization working with rights and health of MSM and Transgender population.

Sridhar Rangayan & Saagar Gupta run the film production and distribution company Solaris Pictures, the only film production company in India focusing solely on LGBT issues.
