Boston Basketball Partners LLC, owner of the reigning NBA Champion Boston Celtics, has inked a deal to sell the team for $6.1 billion to an investor group led by William Chisholm, a lifelong Celtics fan and Boston-area native, pending a green light from the league’s Board of Governors.
If approved, this appears to be a record deal for a North American sports franchise, topping the Snyder family’s $6.05 billion sale of the NFL’s Washington Commanders to a group led by Josh Harris in 2023.
Current owners led by the Grousbeck family bought the Celtics in 2002 for $360 million. The family indicated last summer that the team was for sale shortly after it set an NBA record with its 18th championship. The Celtics are among the favorites to win the title again this June.

The Boston Celtics recently made history as they recently regained their much-deserved position in the sport: at the top of the list. After a league-best 64 wins this year, the basketball team also went on to become the champions at the NBA Finals 2024, setting the record straight after sixteen stunning years since their last win during the 2007-08 season.

A majority of the credit for such a tremendous performance at the finals is largely deserved by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, both of whom drove the team to its star-studded win. And, surprisingly enough, the determination for Tatum’s unforgettable run seems to have been driven by Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

In this series, the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum will likely go toe-to-toe with the Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton. Tatum’s ability to score from anywhere on the court and his defensive versatility will be crucial in countering Haliburton’s offensive threats.
Another critical matchup is in the paint, with Boston’s Al Horford and Indiana’s Myles Turner. Turner’s shot-blocking and rebounding skills are vital to the Pacers’ defense, while Horford’s experience and leadership...
