Ed Oxenbould comes of age in Paul Dano’s ‘Wildlife’
Writer-director Paul Dano and Ed Oxenbould on the set of ‘Wildlife’.

Ed Oxenbould rates his role in Paul Dano’s Wildlife, in which he stars alongside Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal, as among his favourites.

In the film, Oxenbould plays 14-year-old Joe, who has just moved to Montana with his parents Jeannette (Mulligan) and Jerry (Gyllenhaal). The ‘60s set coming-of-age tale centres on him as their marriage slowly disintegrates.

Oxenbould tells If that Joe is a complex, interesting character, who was bolstered through the writing of Dano and partner Zoe Kazan, who adapted Richard Ford’s novel of the same name.

“It was really different to anything I’d done before. It required a lot of emotion and a lot of watching, a lot of observing. That’s what made it seem really interesting; I thought it would be a great challenge.”

Ed Oxenbould to star in Being Gavin.

Father and son Jamie and Ed Oxenbould are set to appear on screen together for the first time in new Australian film Being Gavin.

Being Gavin is a black comedy about, well, being Gavin..

Gavin, married to his wife and ignored by his son, runs a café. Then along comes Samantha, looking for a job. .Samantha, a frustrated singer, has big ideas for Gavin - but not all of them are to do with coffee.

Mark Kilmurry's (artistic director, ensemble theatre) debut feature film will also be the first time film audiences will see the Oxenbould father and son acting combination together on screen.

The creative team behind Being Gavin are taking a collaborative approach, with first time feature writing duties shared between Sara Bovolenta (UK) and Mark Kilmurry.

Kilmurry said he went into acting to make films.
