When the first season of Parks and Recreation was announced, it was advertised as a spin-off of The Office, expected to maintain the quality and feel that the beloved series had. However, as Rotten Tomatoes showed, the series did not have the best start, having a 68% critics rating and a 71% audience rating for its first season. This is surprising, since a potential spin-off of a show like The Office should have easily gained good reviews.

What is even more fascinating is that the series has become iconic over time, boasting an overall score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. With this, one cannot help but wonder why the first season was so distinctively bad, and interestingly enough, it could have everything to do with Steve Carell’s series.

It’s been eight years since Parks and Rec ended, and I still think about a scene most fans have never seen. The scene was so perfectly weird and on-brand for Pawnee that I can’t believe it was left on the cutting room floor.

The scene includes Alison Becker, who played the Pawnee reporter Shauna Malwee-Tweep in her best, most satisfying scene in the entire series. It is now tucked into a producer’s cuts of the finale, where only the most dedicated fans would stumble across it. Honestly, it’s one of the most underrated moments in Parks and Rec history, and I’m still not over it.

“Parks and Recreation” debuted April 9, 2009, just three months after Barack Obama’s inauguration. Several members of the “Parks and Recreation” cast reunited this week — not for a reboot or TV special, but on the picket line as they join the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Ben Schwartz — who played the recurring role of Jean-Ralphio Saperstein on the beloved NBC sitcom — took to Instagram to share a series of photos in which he’s joined by fellow “Parks and Rec” alums, including Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Retta and Jim O’Heir.

Exclusive: Glow star Kimmy Gatewood and Parks and Recreation actress Alison Becker have sold their comedy script, Girlworld, to Amazon Studios. The pic, described as a rowdy and surreal feminist comedy that takes place in an alternate universe, is being produced by Ben Stiller and Nicholas Weinstock’s Red Hour Films.

Gatewood and Becker developed the screenplay with Weinstock. The screenwriting duo met while performing comedy in New York City, where they honed their brand of comedy that tackles modern feminist issues. They have several projects in development, all comedies with a social commentary bend.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s work on 2016’s hit “Sausage Party” resulted in one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing adult-targeted animated films. Now, the duo is teaming up to adapt the “Bubble” podcast into an age-appropriate animated movie with Sony Pictures Animation.

Variety reported that Sony Pictures Animation is developing the project, based on the 2018 podcast, with Point Grey and Matt Tolmach (“Jumanji: The Next Level”) producing.

Kyle Hunter, Ariel Shaffir, James Weaver, and David Manpearl are attached as executive producers, while podcast production company Maximum Fun and Jordan Morris, who created the “Bubble” podcast, are attached as co-executive producers. Morris will also write the script, according to Variety. Hunter, Shaffir, Tolmach, and Point Grey previously worked together on Hulu’s “Future Man” comedy series.

Rogen and Goldberg’s upcoming adaptation will mark their second venture into animated adult projects.

Sausage Party producers and Point Grey principals Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have reteamed with Sony and producer Matt Tolmach (who worked with them on Hulu’s Future Man series) to develop an adult animated film based on the 2018 podcast, Bubble, which was created by Jordan Morris.

Morris will adapt the screenplay. The 10-episode scripted comedy series hails from Maximum Fun. It centered around an unlikely group of monster killers, brought together by an Uber-like app called Huntr, that struggle to make ends meet and find love in a nightmarish version of the gig economy.

Netflix has been spending money on streaming-video content like, well, a drunken sailor. Now comes a subscription VOD product from a Scottish beer-brewing company that’s geared around a tippling lifestyle — with a show lineup that includes such fare as “Are You Smarter Than a Drunk Person?” and “Four Sheets.”

Indie brewery BrewDog is launching the BrewDog Network, with several hundred hours of programming spanning craft beer, cocktails, food, travel, comedy, game shows, and documentaries. The Svod service, priced at $4.99 monthly, features 14 original series at launch, including “The BrewDog Show,” a reboot of the TV series that previously aired on NBCUniversal’s Esquire Network (which shut down in early 2017).

The Svod service is available worldwide on Android and iOS devices and online at brewdognetwork.com. The five-bucks-per-month fee, the company noted, is less than the price of a pint of its beer.

The television space is more crowded than ever, and we may have our most surprising addition to the ever-expanding landscape: A brewery.

Yes, you read that correctly. Scotland-based craft brewery BrewDog, is launching its own streaming network, The BrewDog Network, that’ll cost $4.99 a month, or less than a pint of beer.

The network will be lead by James Watt and Martin Dickie, the brewery’s co-founders. Chris Burke and Jared Cotton, founders of Emmy-winning production company Redtail Media, will serve as general manager and head of creative. Redtail Media produced the duo’s “BrewDogs” TV series that aired on the now-defunct Esquire Network for three seasons between 2013 and 2015.

The U.S. is awash in subscription streaming networks, with more than 200 of them now jockeying for viewers. But the BrewDog Network, a $5-a-month service launching today, introduces a bit of a new wrinkle.

The network will deliver a lineup of cocktail, craft beer, culinary and travel shows — not from a traditional TV programmer’s perspective, but from that of a seasoned brand marketer. BrewDog is a craft beer maker with U.S. headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, and since starting out in 2007 has secured distribution in 60 worldwide markets.

BrewDog co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie got a taste of TV by hosting their own show, Brew Dogs on the Esquire Network. After NBCUniversal pulled the plug on the short-lived venture, the pair decided to forge ahead with a 24/7 network conveying the spirit of that show, which had developed an avid following.

Vampire Diaries’ Taylor Kinney in Dating Rules From My Future Self

Are you ready for a brand new web series? Any takers? Well, what if I told you the series came directly from the minds behind Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and The Secret Circle! Intrigued? I thought you might be!

Alloy Entertainment is the name of the production group developing an all new web series called Dating Rules From My Future Self. According to EW, an actress well-known to fans of the Vampire Dairies has already been cast in the web show. She’s Taylor Kinney and he’s joined by Alison Becker of Parks and Recreation, Mircea Monroe of Episodes) and Bryce Johnson of Pretty Little Liars. Boy, they are all acting double time!

Life Unexpected actress Shiri Appleby is even helping out with the producing. Nice.

The series will consist of nine episodes scheduled to being showing in premiere January.
