  • Played soccer for the following Dutch soccer-clubs: SDOO Heteren(Amateur)/VV Nieuw Binnen(Amateur)/Rolder Boys(Amateur)/Go Ahead Eagles(Prof)/Sc Cambuur(Prof)/BV Veendam(Prof)/HFC Haarlem(Prof)/SV Meppen(Amateur)/MVV(Prof). 1973/1974 played 30 games for BV Veendam and scored 1 goal. 1974/1976 played 47 games for HFC Haarlem and scored 2 goals.
  • 1 February 1977: started working as journalist for Dutch soccer magazine Voetbal International (while still playing soccer for MVV) and in 2000 became the director/hoofdredacteur of Voetbal International.
  • He is very interested in music. At home he has a very big collection of records and CDs.
  • For his magazine Voetbal International, he sometimes uses 2 nicknames: Gerrit Westers and Freek Zoontjes.
  • Is a great critic in the Dutch Sport Journalistiek.
  • 2006: won an Emmy Award for his journalistic work.
  • 2005: Dutch Magazine Esquire found him the worst dressed man of the Netherlands.
  • In 2002 he almost became Algemeen Directeur at BV Veendam, but at the last minute he withdrew.
  • As a journalist he worked for De Noord-Ooster, a Dutch newspaper. Was redacteur for: De Winschoten Courant and Nieuwsblad van het Noorden, 2 Dutch newspaper publishers.
  • Used to be the manager of the famous Dutch band "Cuby and the Blizzards".
