Originally on Freevee, the Emmy-nominated series has moved to Prime Video following Amazon’s platform reshuffling last November. Talk about keeping things under wraps! This documentary-style comedy that captured our hearts with its unique premise is about to surprise us all over again, but this time, we’re trading courtroom drama for corporate shenanigans.

Jury Duty was one of the biggest show’s on Amazon’s Freevee streaming service, prior to it being shut down. The show, a cross between a mockumentary and a prank-show, created an entire court case with jurors and lawyers and a judge - but only one member of the jury was unaware it was all fake.

The hit show was praised for its originality and creativity, though many were curious if the series could be pulled off a second timegiven the popularity of the first season. Jury Duty will return for — and has already filmed — a second season at Amazon Prime Video, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Thursday.

Amazon declined to comment on the news. Season one of the show aired in 2023 on Amazon’s Freevee and endeared audiences with its candid camera comedy starring an unknowing Ronald Gladden. Actors — including James Marsden (playing himself) — improvised along as caricatures of fellow jurors, a judge and other courtroom personalities while Gladden went the whole stint believing the entire ruse was real.

Sources report Jury Duty‘s second season will leave the witness stand behind in favor of a corporate retreat setting. It was shot in the Agoura Hills suburb of Los Angeles.

Season one showrunner Cody Heller previously told THR she was “terrified” by the challenge of pulling off the candid camera feat. “There was something about that fear of failure that ignited something in myself,” she said.

The Amazon Freevee comedy, which became a surprise hit for the platform and migrated over to Prime Video after the sibling streamer’s shuttering, already produced its next installment, according to media reports.

Amazon representatives declined to comment for the story.

The new season is believed to be set at a corporate retreat instead of a courtroom, according to a report from Variety. Filming took place in Los Angeles and Deadline reported the story will center around a David vs. Goliath theme.

“Jury Duty” was created by Lee Eisenberg, and Gene Stupnitsky. Season 1 followed breakout star Ronald Gladden in a documentary-style journey following his time as a juror, until it is revealed that the proceedings were fake from the start.

The 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Tuesday announced a long list of presenters for the ceremony this Sunday, hosted by “SNL” alumnus Aidy Bryant, including Colman Domingo, Quinta Brunson, Sterling K. Brown, Anna Kendrick and Jude Law. The 39th Annual Spirits will be held at 2 p.m. Pst on the beach in Santa Monica, streamed live on the IMDb and Film Independent YouTube and respective X channels, with highlights across all social media platforms.

Overpriced cosmetics were put on trial this Sunday, as makeup brand e.l.f. recruited top scripted and unscripted legal stars for its 2024 Super Bowl ad.

The brand, known for capitalizing on pop culture to promote its wares, last came to the big game with comeback queen Jennifer Coolidge in a spot written by her “White Lotus” creator Mike White. This year, they called on several alumni from the streaming megahit “Suits.”

Gina Torres, Rick Hoffman and Sarah Rafferty all reprised their roles as New York City litigators, making a case against $92 foundation before a wary Judge Judy Sheindlin. Other cameos included singer Meghan Trainor, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star HeidiNCloset, comedian Benito Skinner and Ronald Gladden, star of the breakout reality series “Jury Duty.”

Judge Judy is in her first-ever Super Bowl commercial and now she’s Judge Beauty… with the stars from Suits acting as lawyers in the ad.

Rick Hoffman and Gina Torres face off against each other in the commercial, which also features Sarah Rafferty. The jury is made up of Meghan Trainor, Jury Duty‘s Ronald Gladden, social star Benito Skinner, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Heidi N Closet, and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho.

Update: Suits came a bit closer to a full-cast Super Bowl huddle today, with Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht, all suited up in their familiar courtroom attire, reunited for a T-Mobile commercial set to run during this Sunday’s big game.

While some of their other Suits castmates – no, not her – will appear in an e.l.f. Cosmetics spot (watch it below), Adams and Macht appear, along with Bradley Cooper (and his mom), Jennifer Hudson, Common, Laura Dern, Zach Braff and Donald Faison, in a T-Mobile commercial plugging the company’s new premium Magenta service.

In the ad, titled “Auditions,” the celebrities try out for a Magenta spokesperson gig. No word on who gets the callback.

Super Bowl Sunday is delivering not one, but two Suits cast reunions.

During the second quarter, leading men Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams (aka Harvey Specter and Mike Ross) will reunite in a 60-second ad for T-Mobile. Then in a second commercial for makeup brand e.l.f. Cosmetics, Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson), Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt) and Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen) appear in front of Judge Beauty (played by the iconic Judge Judith Sheindlin).

Jury Duty star James Marsden addresses the possibility of season 2. An inventive reality hoax show from creators Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the story focuses on the inner workings of a jury trial in the United States through the eyes of juror Ronald Gladden — with the actor portraying a satirized version of himself. The citizen from San Diego is unaware that his jury duty summons is unofficial and that everyone in the courtroom other than him is an actor. Since Jury Duty became available for streaming on Freevee in April 2023, the comedy has jumped in popularity, receiving Emmy nominations and garnering Gladden an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Awards season is heating up and the red carpet is in full gear with the stars of television, writers, directors, and craftspeople will be honored for their work at the 75th Emmy Awards Anniversary milestone celebration.

Who doesn’t love a group photo packed with big-name actors?

A slew of stars came together to say cheese and help raise north of $2.5 million in West Hollywood on Saturday night at the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s 17th annual Evening Before benefit. Co-chaired by Quinta Brunson and Bob Odenkirk, the annual event takes place ahead of the Emmy Awards, and this weekend’s installment shifted to the new year to follow the TV Academy’s celebration due to the dual strikes last summer.

“We’ve had quite a year, and this organization and its fundraiser has helped many weather the storm,” said Brunson. Added Odenkirk, “I’m thrilled to be a co-chair of MPTF’s Evening Before benefit with Quinta. MPTF really stepped up during a very challenging year to support the entertainment community, and I’m proud to be a part of a fundraiser that will help to sustain that vital support.

ABC News Studios is expanding its end-of-the-year special The Year, with Robin Roberts set to host one program focused on 2023 and another a look ahead at 2024.

The two-hour special The Year: 2023 will air at 9 p.m. Et on Dec. 27, with Roberts joined by her Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos, along with World News Tonight anchor David Muir, 20/20 co-anchor Deborah Roberts, Nightline co-anchor Juju Chang, ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis, chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee, Lara Spencer of GMA and multiplatform reporter Ashan Singh. The look back will focus on major events and newsmakers of the past year.

In a statement, Roberts said that the part year “has been a consequential and defining year culturally, socially, and politically. The Year: 2023′ will key in on the challenges that drew our attention this past year, and also what united us and reminded us of the common humanity that connects us all.

Progress on the Who's the Boss? revival is moving forward, with the show's future now in the hands of Freevee for a final decision. The creative team, including co-creator Mike Royce, completed all the necessary scripts for the revival before the 2023 writers strike. The team expects to hear whether or not the revival is greenlit after the new year.

Progress on the Who's the Boss? revival has received a major update. The original show, which ran on ABC for eight seasons between 1984 and 1992, followed a retired baseball player (Tony Danza) taking a job as a housekeeper for an ad executive (Judith Light) in Fairfield, Connecticut, bringing along his daughter (Alyssa Milano). The show's planned revival on Freevee was originally announced in mid-2022, from One Day at a Time reboot co-creator Mike Royce and writer Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz.

Per TVLine, Mike Royce recently appeared on an episode of The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast.

While details as to Olayiwola’s role are under wraps, she’s part of an ensemble led by Dominique Thorne, which also includes Anthony Ramos, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich and more. “Jury Duty” is a reality show. Or is it a sitcom? A documentary? An elaborate prank?

How about all of the above?

One of 2023’s defining breakouts, the Amazon Freevee series is the crown jewel of an ascendant hybrid genre sometimes referred to as docu-comedy. Even the people who made the show aren’t sure how to classify it. Director Jake Syzmanski and co-creator Lee Eisenberg say they’ve never heard that term. Eisenberg suggested hidden-camera comedy, but that’s not really accurate either, as everyone involved knew they were being filmed. Robyn Adams, a producer, used “outlined improv.” Whatever nomenclature best applies, this increasingly common format has enjoyed a banner year, with “Jury Duty,” Peacock’s “Paul T. Goldman,” BBC and Netflix’s “Cunk on Earth,” and HBO’s “How To with John Wilson” picking up where the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Nathan Fielder left off.

Ronald Gladden made his acting debut in the Freevee comedy Jury Duty earlier this year, and he’s just getting started!

The breakout star shared the screen with the likes of James Marsden in the series. What set him apart from the rest of the cast is that he was the only one unaware that they were filming a show.

Next time he appears in front of the camera, Ronald will know that he’s about to star in a movie. The Hollywood Reporter announced that he signed a two-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Ronald Gladden, the unwitting star of this year’s surprise breakout docu-comedy hit “Jury Duty,” has signed a two-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios to produce, develop and star in a variety of content – a turn of events as implausible as his growing fame.

Gladden was the good-natured, game-for-anything young contractor who unknowingly answered a Craigslist ad looking for someone to participate in a documentary about jury service. He instead became the unwitting dupe in a situation comedy on which he was the only person who wasn’t an actor and wasn’t in on the ruse. Through the eight “Jury Duty” episodes, the audience followed Gladden’s selection onto the purported jury for a fake court case and his building incredulity at all of the weird situations and oddball characters surrounding him as the hoax trial moved forward. The show became a giant hit for Amazon Freevee and earned four Emmy Award nominations,...

“Jury Duty” star Ronald Gladden has signed an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Variety has learned.

Under the two-year deal, Gladden will work with the studio to produce, develop, and star in content across platforms.

“Words cannot express how excited I am to officially be a part of the Amazon family,” said Gladden. “’Jury Duty’ was a remarkable experience for me, and one that introduced me to so many creative and inspiring people. I’m now looking forward to utilizing those new relationships to develop projects for Amazon MGM Studios.”
