The Vampire Diaries’ Most Brutal Burn Involved Damon Being Petty Yet 100% Right: “It wasn’t about you”
Image
The Vampire Diaries is one of those shows that gets better with every re-watch. Even if you watch the show for the umpteenth time, there is something ready to be uncovered.

More often than not, the scenes help the viewers in learning a new aspect of the favorite trio’s character arc. In one such scene, which is recently gaining traction online, Damon – quite characteristically – pointed out to Elena that everything didn’t just revolve around her.

While the fans of the show are never in real shortage of gushing over any Delena scenes, this particular instance of Damon and Elena’s interaction has a separate fanbase altogether.

Damon Salvatore showed the much-needed mirror to Elena Gilbert

One of the much-discussed themes in The Vampire Diaries is whether Elena Gilbert is narcissistic. While some points can be reconsidered, there will be very few fans who will not accept that she...

The Most Overlooked ‘Vampire Diaries’ Scene in Season 3 Proves Damon and Elena Were Endgame
Image
From the very moment The Vampire Diaries crash-landed in 2009, it was given that a solid love triangle was on the cards. The intensity – and the subsequent Stelena vs Delena war – is a different story altogether.

As the series started, Elena was shown to have a love at first sight with the ‘good’ brother, Stefan Salvatore. The first season even took an extreme focus on building their relationship gradually. Yet, somewhere in the background, was lurking the proverbial prodigal son (read the ‘bad’ brother) – Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

Slowly, Damon’s attraction toward Elena started growing, leaving fans divided into the categories of Elena-Damon shipper and Stefan-Elena shippers. While multiple swoonworthy scenes in The Vampire Diaries hinted at the intensity of Elena and Damon, a particular scene from Season 3 foreshadowed that they were the endgame.

Damon and Elena’s romance was a solid thing, and this Season 3 scene lowkey hinted at...

A Controversial Vampire Diaries Retcon Ruined Delena's Chemistry (& Left Fans Furious)
Image
Quick LinksIt Should Not Have Mattered Who Met Elena First - Stefan Or DamonThe Retcon Contradicted Seasons Worth Of Development And ChemistryIt Seemed Like A Forced Plot Device For Drama

The Vampire Diarieswas no stranger to retcons and changes to its story, which wasn't unforgivable when the sheer length of the show was considered. The teen fantasy drama lasted eight full seasons, and characters like Elena, Klaus, Rebekah, Jeremy, and Tyler left and reentered the show throughout its long run. Therefore, some changes to plots and lore here and there were justified, but one particular retcon was too egregious to be forgiven.

It was no secret that Stefan and Elena got together because Stefan had noticed Elena earlier, and had secretly admired her from afar before he joined Mystic Falls High School. While many would say his activities were sinister, it was because of his curiosity about Elena that he...

Paul Wesley Reveals Which ‘Vampire Diaries’ Storyline “Should’ve Never Made It Out of the Writers Room”
Image
[This story contains spoilers for The Vampire Diaries.]

Could it be that even Paul Wesley was team Klaroline?

While many Vampire Diaries fans loved the romance between his character Stefan Salvatore and Candice King’s Caroline Forbes — also known as Steroline — towards the end of the show, Wesley wouldn’t necessarily agree.

On a recent episode of Hot Ones Versus, the actor was asked by his former co-star — and current Brothers Bond Bourbon co-founder — Ian Somerhalder to choose “one storyline you think should’ve never made it out of the writers room” on the hit show, which ran for eight seasons from 2009-17.

“After Nina [Dobrev] left the show [after season six], they were like: We need to pair Stefan with some romantic partner and then Stefan and Caroline [Candice King] ended up having a wedding and getting married, right?” Wesley responded.

“It was a little forced but it was cute,” Somerhalder confessed before Wesley added, “It was cute.”

The inherent problem with love triangles is that at some point, one corner is going to have to lose. This is the conundrum that The Vampire Diaries was not immune to. Like Twilight and True Blood before it, The CW series revolves around one human's struggle to choose between two supernatural creatures. In the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, Elena Gilbert has the unenviable task of loving vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Both have their attributes but are very different at the end of the day.

As often happens in these types of scenarios, the brooding bad boy is the winner. After years of Elena denying her feelings for Damon,...

10 Perfect Moments From The Vampire Diaries Season 3 That Are Flawless From Beginning to End

Few other fantasy shows reached the pinnacle of fame the way The Vampire Diaries did, and it continued its successful run even three seasons deep. After two incredibly beloved seasons, Tvd offered even more twists and turns in Season 3, making it one of the show's best installments. Stefan, Damon, and Elena combated even more villains and dealt with growing feelings in this season as well.

Season 3 brought with it some of the best plot twists, including ghosts coming back to life and Elena turning into a vampire. Some would say that it was one of the most pivotal seasons of The Vampire Diaries, as it changed relationship dynamics for good. Along with great writing, the third season of Tvd also had some of the best dialogues, which added to its appeal.

I’m Embarrassed to Admit It, but I Fall Prey to Shipping Culture
Image
One of the things I dislike most about TV fan culture is our obsession with romantic pairings.

And yet, here I am, fully admitting that I’m part of the problem.

It’s embarrassing to feel so deeply for fictional couples, to let a show dictate my emotional state based on whether two made-up characters do or do not end up together. But some shows have gotten to me — really gotten to me — and if you’re reading this, I bet you’ve been there, too.

(Michael Desmond/Hulu)

What I’ve been trying to figure out is: who’s actually to blame? Is it the show itself? The way the characters are written? The actors and their chemistry? Or is it a chaotic combination of all those things, plus some invisible force that makes us lose our collective minds over fictional relationships?

Take Veronica Mars, for example. That show...

10 The Vampire Diaries Moments That Proved Stefan & Elena Should Have Been Endgame
Image
Many years have passed since the series finale of The Vampire Diaries, but the fandom remains divided over Team Stelena and Team Delena. The central love triangle between Elena, Damon, and Stefan was the subject of intense debate when the show aired, and it continues to be even today. While Damon and Elena were endgame, many feel that Stefan and Elena were actually the better ship.

For starters, Stelena happened first, meaning their love was much more authentic and organic. They shared some of the most beautiful moments on the show, which proved that their love was a lot more potent than Delena's. Stefan and Elena should have been endgame because of how similar they were, which was clear in these moving Tvd moments.

Quick Links Both Stefan and Damon Only Hurt Elena A Human Mate Would Have Been a Better Fit For Elena Elena Should Have Taken Time to Process Her Trauma

The love triangle between Stefan, Damon, and Elena was the core of The Vampire Diaries. This meant that the main reason fans were tuning in to the show was to know whom Elena finally chose, and Damon turned out to be her ultimate endgame. This conclusion was the crowd-pleasing one, but I never agreed with the end of Elena's love story. While Delena was a thrilling pair that ignited the audience's (and Elena's) sense of adventure, it never sat right with me that she would choose the man who had hurt her so greatly as her life partner.

While many would then extoll Stefan as Elena's perfect partner, I do not think he was the right person either. Elena's story began...

The Most Questionable Things Damon Did in The Vampire Diaries
Image
The Vampire Diaries would be incomplete without Damon Salvatore, but the redeemed anti-hero was not for the faint of heart. Before he became the beloved romantic interest for Elena, Damon was a certified bad guy on the show. He entered Season 1 of The Vampire Diaries as a villain, and his actions were aligned with his negative role in the CW fantasy.

Damon was not any ordinary villain. He enjoyed going to evil depths to hurt people or hit their weak spots. He thoroughly enjoyed being a vampire because of the power it gave him, and he was sure to use his power on people weaker than him. In short, there were more than a few acts Damon committed that could be considered questionable at best.

The Vampire Diaries was known for its intense love triangle between Stefan, Damon, and Elena, and the relationship between the latter two became controversial very quickly. Both ships, Stelena and Delena, had their dedicated fanbases, but Damon and Elena's relationship started off with a sire bond that raised eyebrows. The elder Salvatore and Elena had plenty of chemistry before the sire bond, which was why fans did not appreciate this sudden plot twist in The Vampire Diaries.

Sorry Tvd Fans, But I Don't Think Damon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert Were Good Together
Image
The Vampire Diaries graced screens at a time when vampires were becoming popular again, and it managed to hit the sweet spot. It had alluring vampires, a relatable female lead, riveting romances, and fantastical creatures who keep fans hooked. The show revolved around Elena Gilbert, a young teen in Mystic Falls who discovered the existence of vampires while coping with the loss of her parents. The entry of the mysterious Stefan Salvatore changed her life forever, as they fell deeply in love with each other, while trying to fight off numerous villains who want to destroy their town and Elena, both.

Stefan was not the only Salvatore in town, however. Soon after he arrived in Mystic Falls, his elder brother, Damon, also made his way to him. Damon was the opposite of Stefan: arrogant, cruel, and flippant about human life. Damon enjoyed being a big, bad vampire, and he made...

Every Damon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert Milestone in Tvd, Ranked

Undoubtedly, The Vampire Diaries would be incomplete without Damon and Elena. While the love triangle between Stefan, Elena, and Damon was a mainstay on the show, the romance between the elder Salvatore and Elena was the highlight. They had a forbidden aspect to their love story, which made it incredibly exciting. It juxtaposed the stability, and dare we say, monotony, that Stefan offered in his romance with Elena.

However, that did not mean that Damon and Elena were a couple only based in lust or a sense of thrill. They had a long time to get to know each other and become good for each other. Damon gave up his old, murderous ways to be worthy of Elena, and she opened herself to a sense of adventure like never before. Together, they hit some milestones that were absolutely phenomenal and made their relationship wonderful to watch.

The Vampire Diaries is a cultural phenomenon in itself. It came to an end in 2017 but you best believe that the craze is still as high as it was in 2009, when the pilot episode was dropped. Sorry Vampire Diaries Fans, I Think We Forgave Damon Too Quickly
Image
In The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore makes it immediately clear how chaotic and unpredictable he is, quickly presenting his many flaws in the series. At the time, he was driven largely by his obsession with Elenas doppelgnger, Katherine Pierce. Interestingly, the way he treats the other characters is dramatically different from the friendships and relationships he forms later in the series. Ultimately, his irredeemable qualities are one of the harsh realities of rewatching The Vampire Diaries.

As early as season 1, which is ranked among the best seasons of The Vampire Diaries, there are hints that there is a good person within, just with a different moral compass compared to other characters. He compels Jeremy to forget how Vicki died, which can be seen as either manipulative and wrong or an act of kindness. However, other actions in the season are outright villainous and complicate his redemption arc. I think its...

The Vampire Diaries doesn't decline in quality as it goes on, with some of the best moments appearing in later seasons. Season 7 sees a shift in focus from Elena to the Salvatore brothers, with the show reinventing itself in her absence. The final season of The Vampire Diaries is full of nostalgia and character returns, delivering on fan service.

The CW's long-running vampire love triangle TV show The Vampire Diaries boasts many popular characters and engaging storylines focusing on romantic and supernatural intrigue. The show, based on L. J. Smith's fantasy novel series of the same name, was created in the wake of Twilight's massive popularity. However, while Twilight brought vampires back into mainstream pop culture, the Vampire Diaries books were published long before the Twilight books. One Vampire Diaries Character Is Actually the Focus, but It's Not Elena
Image
Elena Gilbert was the protagonist of The Vampire Diaries, but other characters quickly drew fan attention from her. The elder Salvatore brother, Damon charmed audiences with his wit, humor, and excellent redemption arc. Even after Elena left the show, Damon carried most plotlines with his personality and ever-evolving character.

The Vampire Diaries started off as Elena's story, but there was another vampire who was actually the main character of the show. Damon Salvatore, the elder, roguish brother of Stefan Salvatore, may have entered the show as an antagonist, but it was quite clear from the beginning that he would disrupt the status quo, cause conflict, and shake The Vampire Diaries up with his unique personality.

Damon's first distinguishing quality was that he was the very opposite of righteous Stefan. Damon had no qualms in embracing his vampire side, and he reveled in the power that gave him over humans and other species.

To watch and even rewatch The Vampire Diaries continues to be an exhilarating experience, especially since it was one of the last shows that did a love triangle well. Every Romantic Relationship In The Vampire Diaries, Ranked By How Healthy They Were

Some of the major relationships on The Vampire Diaries were surprisingly healthy despite being in a fantasy/vampire genre. 10 Times The Vampire Diaries Jumped The Shark
Image
Few other shows could reach the height of popularity that The Vampire Diaries did in its heyday, and unsurprisingly, it continues to dominate fans' imaginations even today. However, like every great fantasy show, Tvd jumped the shark -- sometimes. The phrase originated from a scene in Happy Days where Fonzie literally jumped over a confined shark, which stretched the imagination just a bit too far for the audience to suspend their disbelief.

These moments in The Vampire Diaries were also jarring for audiences to watch because they went against the lore and motivations of characters or overdid a story too many times. Elena, Damon, Stefan, Enzo, Bonnie and Caroline were well-loved, but Tvd did seriously jump the shark a few times.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Is the Best Teen Drama Since ‘Dawson’s Creek’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

The teen drama isn’t a new genre — it’s been around for decades. But on television, the offerings have been lacking in recent years, with shows feeling pressure to add something more — usually in the from of a supernatural creature — than just relationship-based storytelling. Many shows appear to be afraid to do just that, despite the fact that it’s what The WB (Rip) and The CW (Rip x2) were built on. The word “ship” started circulating more on social media during “The Vampire Diaries,” which thrived when it leaned into Stelena, Delena, Klaroline, etc., rather than the bloodsucking. Years later, the remake of “Roswell” succeeded most when Malex’s growing love was examined, rather than the aliens in town.

Then there’s Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” which began as a coming-of-age teen drama about...
