Escape review – blonds have much less fun in sleazy throwback survival horror
Sean Cronin
With its gang of cartoon villains and wardrobe of bikinis, this low-budget thriller is reminiscent of old-style video nasties

For all its effective use of modern drone cinematography, this survival horror is very much a throwback to the video nasties of the 1980s. The villains are essentially cartoons: a heavily accented human trafficker (Sean Cronin) who comes complete with facial scar, cigar and goons. These are a big lad with stringy hair and an eye patch (Glenn Salvage), an even bigger lad with some painful-looking skin problems (Jon-Paul Gates), a dude who looks like he’s auditioning to play bass for Metallica (Mark Haldor), and a “pretty boy”, Jude (Louis James). Jude, a reasonably normal-looking guy, acts as a front for their outfit, a gang whose objective is to obtain 10 thin, blond women to be packed into a storage container and shipped to a wealthy client who remains faceless – we...

Sarah Alexandra Marks in Bad Survival Thriller 'Escape' Official Trailer
Image
Well Go USA is releasing this direct-to-video survival thriller titled Escape, which is not the most original or interesting title. It's already available on VOD now after premiering last year. After being taken from an island resort by a criminal gang, ten young women hatch an escape plan through the deset as they fight for survival against their ruthless kidnappers. They're caught off-guard when some of the women break free and fight back. his trash action thriller film stars Sarah Alexandra Marks, Sophie Rankin, Sean Cronin, Angela Dixon, Glenn Salvage, Jon-Paul Gates, Ksenia Islamova, Megan Lockhurst, and Tiffany Hannam-Daniels. "I really wanted the film to be a total blast and an epic journey... It's outlandish and larger than life. The action & violence are visceral and the landscapes striking. When the women fight back, they fight back hard," the director explains. This really looks as terrible as any movie can - avoid at all costs.

‘Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island’ Review
Image
Stars: Steven Dolton, Ryan Harvey, Glenn Salvage, Jas Steven Singh, Charlie Bond, David Hon Ma Chu, Tony Lau | Written and Directed by Steve Lawson

Independent Midlands filmmaker Steve Lawson, whose last film, Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing, was a surprising take on the Dracula mythos, is back behind the camera for and altogether different beast – literally – killer crocodile come war film Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island. Which is apparently based on a true story…

That true story is the titular battle, which took place in 1945, during the Second World War, when the Allied army invaded Ramree to establish airbases to support the Allies mainland invasion plans. However the mangrove swamps of the island, and the nearby Cheduba Island, were apparently home to a bevy of saltwater crocodiles – enough that the crocodiles massacre of the occupying Japanese soldiers has been called the “worst crocodile disaster in the world”.

The film which,...

‘Never Let Go’ Review
Stars: Angela Dixon, Nigel Whitmey, Lisa Eichhorn, Velibor Topic, Heather Peace, Rami Nasr, Sarah Perles, Samantha Bolter, Michael Xavier, Glenn Salvage, Sanita Simms, Darcie Lincoln | Written and Directed by Howard J. Ford

How best to describe Never Let Go? How about a movie that feels like Paul Greengrass directed Taken, with a kick-ass leading female of T2 Linda Hamilton proportions…

In truth, in my humble opinion Never Let Go is actually way better than those Taken movies. I know, I know, I liked them when they first came out as well, but this movie completely took me by surprise… In the best possible way. Ladies and Gents, Angela Bloody Dixon. This leading lady is fantastic, she grips the viewer by the balls and takes you on a thrilling, tour de force ride, leaving you wondering exactly how far would you go for your kids.

So I guess I should give...

The Dead Awaken in the Deserts of Africa in this One-Sheet Poster
The Dead is a film from director Howard J. Ford (Distant Shadow) that was first reported on in March of 2009 (The Dead Intro') and the film has been generating some buzz by setting a zombie styled horror film in the backdrop of Africa. North American distribution has not been finalized, but some new movie stills and a second poster can be seen here that will surely excite some fans for the project. If you like the idea of a mercenary crossing desert landscapes filled with the undead view an external link below that has over two dozen movie photos from the film's production.

A second synopsis for the film:

"An American mercenary, the sole survivor of a plane crash, has to run the gauntlet across Africa, battling with the living dead. Joining forces with a local military man, desperately searching for his son amongst the chaos, they fight together to...

The Dead Rise Again and Again: News, Movie Poster, and Trailer
"The Dead," not to be confused with George a Romero's "...of the Dead," is a zombie genre film set in the deserts of Africa. Filming, which took place in Ghana and Burkina, Faso is complete and now in post production. Third time English director Howard J. Ford with help from brother Jonathon Ford helm this independent terror flick and the trailer has a definite Romero feel as the undead stumble slowly around, in what looks like a mostly unthreatening manner. However, the unique and isolating backdrop of West Africa with a cross racial set of characters could spark some creative life in, what looks to be a thrilling story. Why the fascination with zombie films? And what do zombies represent in modern culture? Hopefully some of these questions along with some excitement will be given attention in this latest zombie film "The Dead."

The synopsis...

When Lt. Brian Murphy finds...
