Fans can finally stream one of Syfy’s hit zombie TV shows for absolutely free, less than a decade after it was cancelled. Z Nation, created by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler, has since been available on multiple streaming platforms, following its debut in the early 2010s. Some of these streamers include Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Netflix, which acquired all five seasons in 2015 until its removal in the US in 2023. However, these platforms require a paid subscription, making the series less accessible to many until now.

With that, all five seasons of Z Nation that initially ran on Syfy from September 12, 2014, to December 28, 2018, are currently streaming on YouTube free with ads. The series was produced by The Asylum, the indie production and distribution company that hinted in March 2024 that a sixth season of Z Nation might be in the works. The Walking Dead alum Katy O’Brian is staying in the zombie apocalypse world. O’Brian is joining the Season 5 cast of the Syfy drama Z Nation as a new series regular.

O’Brian will play Georgia (aka George) St. Clair, a young hero of the Newpocalypse. Just a college Freshman eight years ago as the Zombie Apocalypse began, she helped lead a group of her fellow students and teachers to NewMerica where she is now a political leader as survivors try to form a new country and learn to deal with a new kind of Zombie.

Z Nation, produced by The Asylum, follows a team of everyday heroes, led by Lieutenant Warren (Kellita Smith), during their epic struggle to save humanity. Keith Allan, DJ Qualls, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, Joseph Gatt, Emilio Rivera and Matt Cedeño also star.

O’Brian recurred last season on The Walking Dead.

Be it prestige zombie drama on AMC or campy undead fun on Syfy, walking corpses are here to stay. Z Nation season 3 will hit our screens in 2016, Syfy announced back in November, keeping the dream of curing a zombie virus alive and well.

We've now learned that Z Nation season 3 will kick off on Friday the 16th of September at 8pm - over in the States - with a special 2 hour episode. The following Friday it will move to its regular Friday at 9pm timeslot.

If AMC's The Walking Dead is the miserabilist emo-goth teen of the televisual zombie apocalypse, then SyFy's Z Nation is its swaggering, devil-may-care little cousin, who's having too much fun smoking weed, gorging on pop-culture tropes and generally dicking around to waste its time indulging in any gravely serious, existential, pseudo-political clap-trap. Therein lies the secret to Z Nation's appeal: it's fun. It laughs at itself, and wants you to laugh along, too.

Syfy and The Asylum today announced that scripted drama series Z Nation will be back for a third season of zombie road trippin’ action, as a 15-hour third season is slated to premiere on Syfy in 2016.

Z Nation takes place three years after a zombie virus gutted the country. A team of everyday heroes is tasked with transporting the only known survivor of the plague across the country to the last functioning viral lab in post-apocalyptic America, in hopes of using his blood to create a cure for the virus.

Z Nation stars Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), DJ Qualls (Supernatural, The Man in the High Castle), Keith Allan (Rise of the Zombies), Anastasia Baranova (The Darkness II), Russell Hodgkinson (Big Fish), Nat Zang and Matt Cedeño (Devious Maids). Karl Schaefer (Eerie Indiana, Eureka, The Dead Zone) serves as executive producer and showrunner.

Z Nation is currently airing Fridays at 10/9c on Syfy.

Finally, there’s some actual tension in the air! Not only that, but Darius also has to target his daughter because she knows about the assassination attempt. Familial drama abounds.
