Rainn Wilson's Backstrom will have its UK premiere on Fox
Fox has announced it will premiere Backstrom in the UK this September, despite the show's cancellation a few months ago by the broadcaster.

The show, which it describes as a "comedic crime procedural", stars The Office Us's Rainn Wilson, and was created by Bones' Hart Hanson.

Wilson stars as Detective Lieutenant Everett Backstrom, a self-destructive cop who returns from five years in exile in the traffic division after offensive behaviour and starts leading a Special Crimes Unit in Portland.

Helping him with his cases are second-in-command Detective Nicole Gravely (House of Lies' Genevieve Angelson) and veteran Detective Sergeant John Almond (Dennis Haysbert from 24).

The series starts with the investigation into the death of a Us senator's son, whose suspected suicide turns out to not be what it seems.

Backstrom will premiere its 13-episode run on Fox in September.

'Backstrom' Recap: Can Backstrom Outrun the Bogeyman?
Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (2015)
Backstrom's "Bogeyman" reveals a major piece of the Backstrom train wreck puzzle and it is a doozie, my friends. The detective pursues the case of missing 14-year-old Talia Lennox, a case which he immediately identifies as connected to the unsolved abduction of Lacy Siddon, which sent Backstrom careening over the edge seven years previously. The case is indeed harrowing, but I think we'll find going forward that the bureau's lack of faith in (and treatment of) Backstrom seven years ago will prove just as devastating and enlightening as the continuing case itself. Kudos to Rainn Wilson for his masterful delivery of a man obsessed convicted and eventually completely unhinged by a world he finds peopled with corpses who don't know they are dead.

Through the eyes of Detective Sergeant John Almond, "Bogeyman" also provides a glimmer of hope for some long-needed future redemption for the acerbic, protocol-eschewing and indiscriminately...

'Backstrom' Recap: Backstrom Faces His Childhood Foes
Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (2015)
Rainn Wilson continues his portraiture of Backstrom in "Bella." This episode delivered a Backstrom who was difficult to find redeemable... until the very last moments.  As viewers have yet to fully invest in this character, a more provocative (likable) character display would have made more sense so early on in the season. Nonetheless, Backstrom's disdain for the bullies and his thirst for revenge is understandable and entertaining even though he presents as crazed throughout most of the episode.

While pursuing a serial arsonist who's heading toward using children as Roman candles, Backstrom and his team interact with two of his least favorite people in the world: fire fighters Nick and Sam D'Agostino. While Backstrom insists upon nailing the two professional heroes for both larceny and arson, Gravely insists on focusing solely on the arson, causing a division within the team. Throughout is the sense that Backstrom has gone off...

Sneak Peek: Backstrom Reveals He's Been Bullied... and 'Squirreled'?
Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (2015)
Backstrom‘s titular police lieutenant had a rough childhood, apparently, as disclosed in this sneak peek from this week’s episode of Fox’s freshman drama (Thursday, 9/8c).

In Episode 2 of the midseason procedural, the Special Crimes Unit is enlisted to help with an arson case that gets escalated to attempted murder. In the clip below, as Backstrom and Detective John Almond prepare to search a local firehouse, Rainn Wilson’s alter ego lets slip with some details about his past — including a form of bullying that’s “exactly what you think it is.”

Advisory: Top Gun volleyball scene-caliber barechested male revelry ahead.

Backstrom: Is Fox's Newest Antihero a Case Worth Cracking?
Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (2015)
“I don’t see the worst in everyone. I see the everyone in everyone.”

For Detective Lt. Everett Backstrom, that’s all the justification he needs to act the way he does — that is, crass, blunt and totally rude.

In Fox’s new cop drama — created by Bones‘ Hart Hanson and based on a set of novels by Swedish criminologist Leif G.W. Persson — The Office‘s Rainn Wilson stars as the titular detective, who is admittedly excellent at his job.

He’s just not so great at the “people skills” thing.

Rounding out Backstrom’s police squad are Sgt. John Almond...

Fox's Acerbic Detective Backstrom Is Not House, Says Star Rainn Wilson
Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (2015)
Fox’s newest antihero Backstrom may sound familiar — caustic, sardonic, talented at his job — but he isn’t a House clone, Rainn Wilson asserts.

Bones creator Hart Hanson’s new series (premiering Thursday at 9/8c) stars Office alum Wilson as a detective with a very mean superpower when it comes to solving crimes.

Videos Is Fox’s Backstrom a Rat-Faced Podiatrist, or a Lesbian Terrorist?

“He so lives in the worst of himself, and in the worst of the human condition, that he’s able to see that in others,” Wilson says.

And while that makes him exceptional at his work,...

Backstrom Review – TV Fox
Backstrom Review

Fox has a daring bet it’s making on Backstrom, and though we might not like to admit to the pigeonholing it entails, a lot of people are going to have to take Rainn Wilson in exactly the right way for the show to take off. We’ll have to hope it works out, because this is the coolest show in a long time, and Wilson is perfect.

The trick here is that the show may need the help of Rainn Wilson as draw, but that audience also has to be able to distance themselves from Dwight Schrute. Wilson has obviously been around, but to a large percentage of people he is either no one, or Dwight, and you aren’t getting anything like Dwight here.

Backstrom, for the sake of brevity, is a kind of slovenly, “Seinfeld generation” Sherlock Holmes. He’s quick with a quip, and...

‘Backstrom’ Explores Juicy, Gooey “Total D**k” Says Star Rainn Wilson – TCA
"He is a total dick," Rainn Wilson said of his lead character in Fox's new series Backstrom, in response to some TV critics' apparent beliefs that there was nothing wrong with irascible Det. Lt. Everett Backstrom that couldn't be fixed with a fluid ounce of weed killer. “I probably would have shot him," co-star Dennis Haysbert said of his character and Backstrom, explaining this was not practical because his character, Sgt. John Almond is a pastor as well as a detective…...

Dennis Haysbert returns to CBS for fall drama pilot
