Vine Star Marcus Johns Makes Directorial Debut With Autobiographical Musical ‘Viral’ (Exclusive)
Former Vine star Marcus Johns will recount his rise to fame in Viral: The Musical, set to premiere at theatre event The Hollywood Fringe Festival next month.

Johns, who joined Vine shortly after it launched in 2013, became one of the top five most followed people on the platform, with more than 6.5 million folks following for his often absurdly humorous six-second videos. After Vine shut down in 2017, Johns bumped over to YouTube, where he’s focused on much longer-form projects, like Yard Boys, a feature-length documentary following him and his friends as they train-hop their way from California to New York in one month.

8 Best Instagrams From Vanity Fair’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner After-Party
Tyler Oakley
Once a year, journalists, politicians and Hollywood elite come together to rub shoulders at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, alternately dubbed the “Nerd Prom.” But this year, the guest list had a new addition: social media stars. Millennial multitaskers famous for their YouTube videos, Instagram posts, snaps, tweets and Vines including Tyler Oakley, Bethany Mota, Marcus Johns, Nash Grier and Jerome Jarre (all invited by the Huffington Post’s Ariana Huffington) made this the most social guest list yet. And nowhere was the influence of social media more obvious than at the Vanity Fair after-party. Vanity Fair teamed up with...

Arianna Huffington Invites Bethany Mota, Nash Grier, More Social Media Stars To White House Correspondents’ Dinner
The annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is typically dominated by a guest list full of traditional Hollywood and media celebrities. But on April 25, 2015, several YouTube and digital stars like Bethany Mota and Nash Grier will sit at the The Huffington Post table, thanks to invitations from the publication’s founder Arianna Huffington.

Grier and Mota (who previously had the honor of interviewing President Obama) are only two of several digital-centric attendees on Huffington’s guest list. Joining the Viner and YouTuber at the HuffPo table are Vine star Marcus Johns, Napster founder and ex-Facebook president Sean Parker, blogger Heather Armstrong, Snapchat celebrity Jerome Jarre, and YouTube vlogger Tyler Oakley. Huffington also invited media theorist and Ted speaker Steven Johnson, scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Serial podcast host and journalist Sarah Koenig, and hip-hop artist Killer Mike.

“There’s a new power center,” Huffington told The Washington Post. “People whose names...

Vine Star Marcus Johns Hangs With Clint Eastwood, J.K. Simmons, Others At Oscars
For the second year in a row, Fandango sent Marcus Johns to the Oscars, and once again, the Viner's trip to the red carpet provided both charming and awkward moments. During his time at Hollywood's Dolby Theater, Johns chatted with several prominent actors, directors, and musicians while also bothering many more.

Fandango gave Johns a microphone, set him loose on Hollywood, and collected his best moments in a video released on the Movieclips Trailers channel. Among other highlights, he took a selfie with Best Supporting Actor J.K. Simmons, sang "Everything Is Awesome" with nominees Tegan and Sara, and shook Clint Eastwood's hand, at which he exclaimed that he "can just die." Along the way, several other celebrities decided not to give the young Vine star any attention. We're sorry that Rosamund Pike lied to you, Marcus.

Simmons, who scored an Academy Award win for his role in Whiplash, wasn't...

Supergravity and Rockstream Studios aren’t the only organizations in the online video industry producing feature-length films with prominent social media stars. AwesomenessTV is making movies, too. It’s latest project is Expelled, an “action-packed comedy” flick starring a cavalcade of incredibly popular individuals from YouTube, Vine, and other social media sites the kids are on these days. Cameron Dallas (who has no less than 6.1 million followers on Vine) leads the cast in the role of Felix, “a legendary prankster who seems to always charm his way out of trouble.” Here’s the rest of the premise: After Felix’s “third strike at school, the principal has had enough and expels him.

iJustine, Shane Dawson, Other UTA Clients Get Their Own Book Deals
TV shows are so 2013. Right now, it seems as if every prominent YouTuber is going to print. The latest creators with their own book deals are five United Talent Agency (UTA) clients who will benefit from a deal with Simon & Schuster: iJustine, Shane Dawson, ShayCarl, Connor Franta, and Joey Graceffa. Those five YouTubers will all publish books through Keywords Press, a new imprint of Simon and Schuster. Each book will relate to its author's online personality in an attempt to draw YouTube viewers to bookstores. According to the New York Times, Keywords Press hopes to publish between six and ten books a year, each one based on an Internet content creator. If the imprint decides to keep up its partnership with UTA, it will find plenty more potential partners; most recently, the Hollywood talent agency teamed up with Vine star Marcus Johns. In addition to Keywords Press, two other Simon...

Vine Star Marcus Johns (And His 4.6+ Million Followers) Signs With UTA
Another week, another high-profile Vine personality makes headlines in traditional entertainment circles. This time it's Marcus Johns. The 21-year-old, Florida-based comedic Viner has signed with UTA for representation in all areas, according to The Hollywood Reporter. John's has over 4.6 million followers on the six-second video platform, where he posts quick sketches featuring his brother Cody Johns (who has 1.9 million followers), his incredibly agile father, randomly entertaining ephemera, and evidence of how sometimes he just doesn't care. Johns recently leveraged his immensely popular Vine status to secure a spot on the Oscars red carpet as a correspondent for Fandago and if the cameos on his videos are any indication, he hangs out with some high-profile players. But the burgeoning entertainment personality was exposed to Hollywood even before he was big online. Now, expect Hollywood to soon get some more exposure to Johns.

Vine Stars Jerome Jarre And Marcus Johns Were On The Oscars Red Carpet
At last night's Academy Awards, a pair of Vine stars joined the Hollywood elite on the red carpet to do what they do best. The unrestrained Jerome Jarre and the dashingly handsome Marcus Johns both found spots on the film industry's biggest night, where they were up to their usual shenanigans. Johns, who has more than four million followers on Twitter's six-second video capture platform, scored an invite to the Academy Awards through Fandango. His Vine feed ended up containing a mix of commentary, behind-the-scenes bits, and, once Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie showed up, screaming. Jarre's Vine updates were a little more singular, as he used his talent for bothering people in public to create Vines where he bothered celebrities in public. His best one features Pharrell Williams, who can't help but give the camera shifty eyes when accosted by a singing French dude. Jarre (who has 4.7 million Vine...
