Controversial Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is selling off a sizable fortune’s worth of stock in his own company. Elmer Fudd must finally be about to ice Bugs Bunny — so long as he can keep that double-barreled shotgun pointed away from his own ass.
Ever since Zaslav took over the media mega-corporation following the merger between WarnerMedia and Discover Inc. in 2022, his tenure at the head of one of the most powerful entertainment empires on the planet could be described by many animation fans as “cartoonishly evil.” Following a period of unsustainable streaming expansion, Zaslav imposed harsh austerity measures on Wbd and, specifically, its animated properties as he canceled completed films like Coyote vs. Acme, destroyed the classic cartoon streaming service Boomerang, gutted Cartoon Network and removed almost every animated show from the Max streaming library.

Despite some excellent movies hitting theaters, 2024 was, to use a sports phrase, a rebuilding year. The 2023 Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes ground Hollywood to a halt before the studios ultimately agreed to some much-needed concessions for the folks who physically make the films and TV shows we all love, and the downstream effects of that unnecessarily drawn-out labor stoppage spilled into 2024. Movies and shows that were supposed to come out needed time to restart production, studios delayed some releases into 2025, and the industry as a whole experienced a contraction. The first half of this year was rough at the box office, but thanks to several major wins near the end of the year, theatrical exhibition managed to stay alive and make up a ton of ground.
While we'll likely be seeing the effects of the strikes and the subsequent contraction for a while, the floodgates are preparing to open for...

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, the first-ever fully animated film based on the Looney Tunes characters, which hit U.S. theaters Dec. 13, almost didn’t happen. Several times.
“At least three, four times during the production I was waiting for that phone call [to shut down the movie],” says director Peter Browngardt. “It was a rocky journey.”
That’s putting it mildly. Browngardt was brought on in mid-2021 to produce and direct The Day the Earth Blew Up as his feature debut. Browngardt was a writer on the popular, and critically acclaimed, HBO Max Looney Tunes reboot, a series of new original shorts featuring the classic Tunes characters which seemed to prove there was an audience out there for more Looney. Browngardt and his writing team — some 15 writers and story consultants are credited on the movie — came up with an original idea involving Daffy Duck and Porky Pig uncovering a...

An upcoming Looney Tunes Blu-ray release will feature multiple animated shorts that have never before been released on DVD or Blu-ray. The iconic animated property remains beloved in the public eye, though recent years have seen some low points for the franchise. From Warner Bros. pulling certain projects off streaming to the studio scrapping the movie Coyote vs. Acme, there have been many reasons for fans to voice their frustrations. Nevertheless, Looney Tunes and its numerous characters still have plenty more to give.
On the Warner Classics Facebook page, the company announced that the Looney Tunes Collector's Choice Vol. 4 will be released through the Warner Archive Collection, just like the previous three sets in the series. Vol. 4 will have classic cartoons starring characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, and Tweety. The Blu-ray is scheduled to be released on November 26. On the disc, the shorts will be presented in an...

Bugs Bunny in his current form has existed since 1940, becoming one of the 20th century's most iconic creations. The Looney Tunes star was originally voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc. Following his death in 1989, the roles were taken over in part by Jeff Bergman, who has subsequently played Bugs (and a host of the other iconic Looney Tunes characters) for decades. The importance of carrying on that legacy isn't lost on Bergman as both a fan and a part of the production.
Jeff Bergman sat down with Cbr to discuss Looney Legends in Conversation, a series of interviews with Noel Blanc, discussing the history and legacy of classic animation and the impact Mel Blanc and Chuck Jones had on the approach to voice-acting, the great difference between Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and which surprising Looney Tunes character he thinks is quietly the most complex.

Tiny Toons Looniversity is a reboot of the beloved Tiny Toon Adventures series, featuring characters from the original and iconic Looney Tunes characters. The trailer promises classic Looney Tunes-style hijinks and showcases the return of Babs Bunny, Buster Bunny, Hampton J. Pig, Plucky Duck, and Sweetie Bird. Fans will also be able to stream all 10 episodes of the first season on Max beginning Sept. 8.
The Looney Tunes universe continues to expand with Tiny Toons Looniversity, which airs this fall on Cartoon Network and Max. At San Diego Comic-Con, Max unveiled the all-new theme song for Tiny Toons Looniversity, a reboot of the beloved 90s cartoon Tiny Toon Adventures.
Announced back in 2020, Tiny Toons Looniversity will finally be released on Cartoon Network and Max this fall. The show brings back all of the original show's memorable characters, though it's not exactly a revival, as some changes have been made to the characters, notably with Buster and Babs now depicted as twin siblings rather than best friends. However, the new theme song unveiled by Max at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday will be familiar, as it's a revamped version of the original theme for Tiny Toon Adventures. It's one way of teasing how the classic cartoon will still serve as a big inspiration for the reboot series.

They’re still tiny and now they’re learning to be a little looney with a new spin on one of television’s most catchy theme songs.
Tiny Toons Looniversity, the updated take on 1990s favorite Tiny Toon Adventures, used its time at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday morning to unveil its theme song, which as you’d expect, is based on the beloved theme song from the original — but with a new twist.
Composer Matthew Janszen has taken composer Bruce Broughton’s Daytime Emmy-winning tune and remixed the original arrangement and lyrics to fit the rebooted show made for a new generation.
The voice cast features Eric Bauza as Buster, Daffy and Gossamer; Ashleigh Hairston as Babs; David Errigo Jr. as Hamton J. Pig and Plucky; and Tessa Netting as Sweety. Looniversity also brings back Tiny Toon Adventures grads Jeff Bergman, Bob Bergen, Candi Milo and Cree Summer, who...

This post contains spoilers for "Fast X."
In Chuck Jones' 1950 animated Looney Tunes short "The Scarlet Pumpernickel," Daffy Duck (Mel Blanc) is pitching his idea for a French Revolution-era adventure picture to an excitable, off-screen studio exec (also Blanc). Daffy has managed to keep the exec enthralled through a story of heroism, swordfights, and high-stakes derring-do, but the exec's attention begins to flag as he approaches the climax. Daffy begins throwing in just about anything he can think of to keep the stakes high. Then the storm broke in all its fury! And the dam burst! The volcano erupted! The price of foodstuffs skyrocketed!
One can almost hear Daffy's voice pitching Louis Leterrier's "Fast X," the 11th film in the "Fast & Furious" series, and, well, a good old-fashioned afternoon at the movies. The content of "Fast X" wouldn't feel out-of-place in a 1940s adventure serial. The only difference is the budget,...
