“He was the most philosophical”: The Unlikeliest ‘Parks and Rec’ Character Mike Schur Wanted in ‘The Good Place’ That Never Happened
Image
Mike Schur has given people some of the most iconic comfort shows ever: The Office, Parks and Rec, The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and honestly, the list just keeps going. These are the shows people still binge on bad days, rewatch for the hundredth time, and quote like they’re part of their personality. So naturally, fans have always wondered, with so many amazing characters under one umbrella, was there ever an idea of crossing them over?

Turns out, one show where a crossover actually could have been pulled off perfectly was The Good Place. It’s a weird rule-bending world, and its connection with Pawnee could have made anything possible. And recently, Schur shared which Parks and Rec character he thinks would have fit right into that universe, and honestly, once you hear it, it makes total sense.

Which Parks and Rec character would have been perfect for The Good Place?...

“It drove me so crazy”: Michael Schur Was Vetoed in ‘The Good Place’ Over 1 Joke He Still Hates Today
Image
In the brilliantly quirky afterlife of Michael Schur’s The Good Place, where moral philosophy meets outrageous comedy, few characters are as hilariously unpredictable as Jason Mendoza. But behind the scenes, even the show’s creator had his own battles, particularly regarding one joke that haunted him throughout its run.

Schur once recalled being at odds with his fellow writers over a joke involving Jason Mendoza that he found way too dumb. Unfortunately for him, the others didn’t forget it, and they kept bringing it up, driving Schur absolutely crazy.

Among the Good Place residents introduced in the NBC sitcom was Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto), who initially poses as the silent Buddhist monk Jianyu before confessing to Eleanor that he’s actually a DJ from Florida, who also...

'A Man on The Inside' Is a Remake Of 'The Mole Agent': Watch Both Now
Image
Netflix's latest streaming series, A Man on the Inside is officially a hit but did you know it's also based on a true story? The Mike Schur show starring Ted Danson, about an older man who infiltrates a nursing home as a spy, may seem like an idea that's too outrageous to be real, but it isn't, and was actually the subject of a 2020 documentary out of Chile called The Mole Agent.

And, as luck would have it, the documentary is streaming free on Tubi and also available on Netflix right now!

A Man on the Inside tells the story of Charles (Danson), a widowed, retired professor who responds to a job listing in a newspaper and ends up becoming a spy for a private investigator. Charles, you see, has been living alone and feeling quite lonely since his wife died, and his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) is...

Only 1 Main The Good Place Character Didn't Get The Ending They Deserved
Image
The Good Place is critically acclaimed and adored by sitcom audiences for its innovative play in the genre and one of the greatest plot twists in television history. Mike Schur, creator of fellow sitcoms Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, made far bolder decisions with this groundbreaking comedy from its premiere up until the final season. The Good Place encounters huge unexpected twists throughout the four seasons that leave audiences second-guessing, in addition to its huge character-driven narratives, which all contribute to the show becoming one of the most unique viewing experiences on television in recent years.

The show reaches more profound emotional depths as themes of ethics, friendship, and main character redemption arcs in The Good Place are explored more deeply throughout. Its main cast continuously comes to realize they're in the Bad Place as their memories are wiped by the reformed demon, Michael (Ted Danson), so the group...

'The Acolyte's Cancellation Isn't Keeping Manny Jacinto Out of the Running for People's Sexiest Man Alive
Image
Manny Jacinto may be navigating the sting of The Acolyte's unexpected cancellation, but he's far from sidelined in the race for People's coveted "Sexiest Man Alive" title. Known for his breakout role as the lovable but dim-witted Jason Mendoza on The Good Place, Jacinto's smouldering good looks and effortless charm have earned him a devoted fanbase. And though his Star Wars journey may have ended prematurely, his status as a rising heartthrob remains firmly intact.

A Celebration of TV’s Lovable Himbos
Image
Though the term itself has had a recent renaissance in the pop-culture lexicon, the himbo isn’t a new invention. A lovable goofball of a man who also happens to be incredibly attractive, but not very smart, is a popular character trope for a lot of TV shows. A character who looks good but doesn’t necessarily have a lot going on upstairs is an easy way to ease tension in dramas and elicit laughs in comedies.

These characters may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but they have a heart of gold and the loyalty of a golden retriever. Here are some of TV’s most loveable himbos.

Jason Mendoza – The Good Place

This Blake Bortles-loving, “pre-successful” Florida DJ may only have one brain cell, but what he lacks in intelligence and impulse control, he makes up for with a kind heart and an endearing charm.

At the end of Freaky Friday, Anna eventually started dating her long-time crush Jake, after successfully solving her body-switching mishap with her mother. With Jacintos addition as Annas husband in the sequel, this seemingly hints that Anna and Jakes romance didnt have a happy ending. Despite this, One Tree Hill vet Chad Michael Murray is still expected to reprise his role as Jake.

Manny Jacinto Wasn't Shocked by His Reduced Role in Top Gun: Maverick
Image
Though he might play a key role in The Acolyte as the Sith Lord Qimir, things werent always as stellar as they are now for Manny Jacinto, who recalls seeing Top Gun: Maverick for the first time and realizing that his lines of dialogue ended up on the cutting room floor. Starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell, Maverick became the smash hit of 2022, taking second spot overall at the worldwide box office with an astounding $1.5 billion dollars. However, while it helped catapult Teller and Powell into the stratosphere of superstardom, Jacinto wasnt as lucky, as his role in the blockbuster movie was cut dramatically in the final edit.

Speaking with GQ about his career thus far, Jacinto says he took the Maverick snub in stride, knowing that sometimes thats just the way these things go in Hollywood. Having already achieved a loyal fanbase thanks to his role as...

Manny Jacinto's dialogue was cut from Top Gun: Maverick, but he still gained notoriety for other roles, like Star Wars: The Acolyte. He reflects on his experience working on the blockbuster film and how it fueled him to take control of his career as an Asian American. Despite the snub, Jacinto's career is thriving with voice roles and a potentially major part in Freaky Friday 2, showcasing his impressive acting range.

I've Found Dragon Ball's Perfect Live-Action Goku Actor After Watching Their 2 Biggest Roles
Image
Manny Jacinto's versatile acting skills make him a perfect fit for Goku in a hypothetical live-action Dragon Ball. His experience in comedy and action from shows like The Good Place and The Acolyte showcase his range. Jacinto's casting could bring the right balance of humor, action, and authenticity to a live-action Dragon Ball adaptation.

A live-action Dragon Ball adaption is an inherently tricky thing to bring to live-action, but I think Hollywood has already found the perfect Goku. Recent years have seen several live-action adaptations of famous anime. While some have been found lackluster by fans and critics alike, the best anime live-action movies and shows have been met with a more positive reception. Although flawed in their own ways, Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Piece have proven the concept can be done well.

While Dragon Ball has one of the most infamous examples of...

From Maes battle with Master Indara, to her clash with Master Sol, theres been a decent amount of martial arts skills shown off, introducing fans to what has been dubbed 'Force fu.' Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Confirms Kylo Ren Connection

The Acolyte Episode 5 is Action-Packed, Heartbreaking & Brutal
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Acolyte Episode 5, "Night."

It would seem that, for the last four weeks, The Acolyte was pulling its punches. Well, no longer. Episode 5, "Night," finally brings out the lightsabers and a couple of big reveals, resulting in some of the darkest Star Wars storytelling outside Andor or Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The episode is also surprisingly dark. This isn't just because of the episode's given title and literal darkness in nighttime scenes, but because of its unbelievable body count and narrative implications.

Prior episodes gave viewers some action in small bursts. These short but effective Star Wars martial arts brawls showcased the Jedis' prowess during an era where they rarely faced any competition as the galaxy's dominant Force-wielders. Additionally, up until this point, the series was bereft of lightsaber duels. Similar to the High Republic books, lightsaber combat was a rarity for the Jedi.

Qimir's reveal as the Sith Lord in The Acolyte may have been obvious, but Manny Jacinto's performance makes it worth it. The Acolyte Star Manny Jacinto Calls His Star Wars Fashion 'Hobbit Meets Poverty'
Image
The new "Star Wars" series "The Acolyte" knows the truth that we all figured out in 2016 but then apparently forgot: Manny Jacinto should be in everything.

The actor, who put in one of the funniest TV performances of the past decade as Jason Mendoza in "The Good Place," hasn't appeared on screen nearly often enough since that sitcom's end, but "The Acolyte" is about to change that. The upcoming Disney+ series features an impressive ensemble cast, including "Bodies Bodies Bodies" star Amandla Stenberg, "Logan" breakout Dafne Keen, and "The Matrix" series alum Carrie-Anne Moss. Then there's Jacinto, who plays Qimir, a former smuggler whose life has seemingly settled down since he started working in the trading world (per ComicBook.com).

A mention of Qimir's newly comfortable status in his character biography implies that the former criminal wasn't always well-off. Jacinto seems to confirm as much in a new interview with Total Film.

Before ‘The Acolyte,’ Manny Jacinto Shined in This Netflix Horror Series
Image
It's unfortunate how few people understand just what a talent Manny Jacinto is. Initially catching audiences' eyes as the hilarious Jason Mendoza on The Good Place, this series showed off his impeccable comedy but didn't allow him much range outside this simple yet compelling character. That's why fans were excited to see that Jacinto would be part of the newest installment to the Star Wars universe, The Acolyte, created by Leslye Headland for Disney+. Many see it as a massive shift for the actor, a chance for him to try something besides the humor that has defined his career until now — but Jacinto has already done that. He was one of the best parts of a Netflix limited series, a hidden gem that spoke to the horrors of Hollywood and gave the impressive actor a chance to show off his range. There's no question that Jacinto will amaze on The Acolyte,...

11 TV Characters Who Are The Definition Of "No Thoughts, Head Empty"
Image
Television shows will often feature a character of low intelligence to add comic relief, leading to a number of TV roles that embody the idea of "no thoughts, head empty." Initially, the phrase took off in 2020 as a way for people to encourage and validate one another in their desires to opt out of thinking during the pandemic. It then had a resurgence on TikTok and is used to describe those who are somewhat spacey.

Although the phrase has not always been around, people who are the definition of "no thoughts, head empty" have always existed. TV shows love to make caricatures of this type of people, exaggerating their unintelligence to make audiences laugh. As the mantra "no thoughts, head empty" continues to take over social media, it's worth considering all the TV characters who are definitely lovable but are also total airheads.
