Stephen King has a lore all on his own when it comes to what directors he’ll allow to bring his books to on-screen life. After trainwrecks early in his adaptation career (we’re looking at you Stanley Kubrick), the author has understandably kept filmmakers interested in turning his novels into cinematic projects on a tight leash. While he’s never come right out and said it, you’d be hard-pressed to find a helmer more on King’s wavelength than Mike Flanagan who has found success in turning numerous works of the writer’s into theatrical productions. But now, King is flipping the tables and giving late (albeit well-earned...

Katee Sackhoff says portraying Bo-Katan Kryze on The Mandalorian badly shook her confidence, explaining on her podcast that she struggled to “find” the character in live action despite years voicing Bo-Katan in animation. The actor described feeling disconnected from the warrior’s motivations and said the experience “broke” her, leading to a stretch in which she “basically didn’t work” and questioned her abilities. The remarks, shared this week and highlighted by The Hollywood Reporter, quickly circulated among Star Wars fans.
Sackhoff said the downturn began after production wrapped on season three in 2022, adding that auditions felt brittle and that she turned to a new manager and, for the first time,...

Stephen King has had a ton of adaptations over the last five decades. Some he would like to forget about, while others are considered some of the best films of the horror genre. This includes 1976’s Carrie from director Brian de Palma. The film has had many physical media editions over the years and, as the psychological horror film nears its haunting 50th anniversary next year, Carrie is getting a new 4K edition from Imprint Films.
Number 494 in the Imprint Collection, this is a 4K/Blu-ray combo pack box set for Carrie. The set comes in a lenticular hard case with seven art cards. The lenticular image shows the tragic before and after of Carrie White’s ill-fated prom. The special features include the 2001 documentaries Acting Carrie and Visualizing Carrie alongside the featurette “Carrie, The Musical.” There's also an animated photo gallery and the featurette “Stephen King and the Evolution of Carrie.

The cool, soothing tone of Hamish Linklater has been disarming audiences since he first came onto the scene more than two decades ago. That’s why he was the perfect man to don the top hat and beard of President Abraham Lincoln for Apple TV+’s Manhunt and why he was the right choice to portray a priest attempting to shepherd his followers towards the truth in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series, Midnight Mass. Once again stepping into the spotlight and allowing his mild-mannered tone to lull us into a false sense of security, the actor is set to join the cast of Gen V for its second season, which arrives next month. Linklater will be taking on the role of Dean Cipher, the new leader at Godolkin University — a place for young superheroes to grow their powers. But, as the trailers have told us, there’s nothing safe about...

Noah Wyle, the star and producer of HBO's new hit medical drama hit The Pitt, has addressed the unexpected exit of co-star Tracy Ifeachor from Season 2. The actor who played a key role as a senior resident in Season 1 is not set to return for the second season, which is currently in production (it is still unconfirmed whether the role will be recast or written out entirely). Reasons remain a secret, but many are speculating that her exit could be related to the actor's ties to a conservative church in the U.K. Although Wyle does not say why Ifeachor has left the show, he has now addressed the conspiracy theories that have since been swirling around.
Ifeachor played Dr. Heather Collins in Season 1 of the HBO Max show that took viewers inside the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital during a very hectic day in the emergency room. Collins was a...

What Do We Know About the upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie? More than you may think. The Prime Video series from The Life of Chuck and The Haunting of Hill House filmmaker Mike Flanagan is set to be his fourth take on a work by King. From plot, casting news, and more, let’s dive in and look at what is coming up in the adaptation of the classic horror novel.
Why another remake of Carrie?
Despite Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation remaining a classic horror film, multiple variations of Stephen King’s debut novel have made their way to audiences. From a sequel in 1999 to remakes in both 2002 and 2013, as well as a stage musical, Flanagan’s series takes a “bold and timely reimagining” of the book. What this entails remains to be seen. But, we do know that Flanagan has a reverence for Stephen...

Carrie, the subject of author Stephen King’s first published novel and one of the greatest female icons in the horror genre, is coming back – and this time Mike Flanagan is the one taking her to prom. It was announced last October that Flanagan was working with King to turn the story of Carrie into an eight episode series that will be released through Amazon’s Prime Video service. Flanagan is executive producing the series with Trevor Macy. Deadline noted at the time, “They’re opening a writer’s room, so this one’s happening quickly.” Since then, the show received the official greenlight from Prime Video and has been assembling its cast. Just last week, we heard that filming would begin in a matter of days – and sure enough, Flanagan started the week by confirming that filming has begun!

Mike Flanagan made his impact on the horror genre with different projects, but he became popular after his partnership with Netflix for shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. However, the auteur is very well-versed in the adaptation of Stephen King's novels.

Mike Flanagan is assembling his cast for his upcoming adaptation of Carrie, and he’s bringing back a lot of familiar faces for the horror series!
He has quickly made his name as a modern-day master of horror. He wrote and directed several films like Oculus, Ouija, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep. Flanagan has really made his mark on television with his Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Each project was inventive, scary, thought-provoking, and boasting a first-rate cast to win over viewers. They ranged from adapting works like Edgar Allen Poe to more original storylines while still enthralling those watching.
Now, Flanagan is ready to take on a famous property in Carrie. The upcoming eight-episode Prime Video series will star Summer Howell in the title role of a troubled teen.

Early this month, Summer Howell was announced in the titular role, as previously rumored. Alongside her announcement were two returning Flanaverse actors. Now Deadline reports that the Carrie cast has announced 14 more members, including some familiar names from Flanagan's previous works.
The two previous Flanaverse actors were Matthew Lillard, who stars in The Life of Chuck, and Samantha Sloyan. Lillard first collaborated with Flanagan on The Life of Chuck, and is set to play Principal Grayle, as previously revealed in early May. Meanwhile, Sloyan has been a part of multiple projects, including The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and Hush. She is set to play Carrie's mom.

Mike Flanagan has established himself as a modern king of horror film and TV.
The writer/director blew up into the mainstream with a number of successful and terrifying limited series on Netflix, but he was not satisfied with that. Flanagan is a self-described lover of Stephen King and has also established himself as the preeminent person to tap for an adaptation of the horror legend’s stories, but with each one, there is plenty of the director injected into the story, too.
With Flanagan’s latest film, “The Life of Chuck,” landing in theaters, here are the seven best offerings from the director to date.
Warner Bros. 7. Doctor Sleep
“Doctor Sleep” and the balancing act that Flanagan achieved deserved more love than it got. “The Shining” is one of Stephen King’s most iconic novels, and the Stanley Kubrick adaptation is equally revered — by all but King himself. So...

When looking through the sprawling works of Stephen King that have been adapted into either television projects or feature-length films, you’d be hard-pressed to find a story told more frequently than Carrie. The book that launched the legendary horror author’s career has been given an on-screen makeover time and time again, perhaps most notably through Brian De Palma’s iconic 1976 film, which saw Sissy Spacek in the titular role. This year, it was announced that another filmmaker was stepping up to the plate and taking on the tale as old as time, with masterful filmmaker and frequent King collaborator, Mike Flanagan helming an adaptation for Prime Video.
In an interview with Variety surrounding the release of his latest King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, Flanagan revealed that King’s first response to the news was, “‘Leave her alone. She’s been through enough.’” However, when the plan was broken down for him,...

Plot: An apocalyptic event and the life of a mild-mannered accountant named Chuck (Tom Hiddleston) have an odd correlation.
Review: Two kinds of folks will be checking out this review of The Life of Chuck—those who have read the short story and those who haven’t. To be transparent, I’m one of those who have not. I was tempted to read it before making the trip to TIFF (which is where I first saw this movie) to see Mike Flanagan’s big-screen adaptation, but in the end, I didn’t because I wanted to experience the film as its own thing without any preconceived notions.
Pretty much right off the bat, I was intrigued by Flanagan’s first feature since his last Stephen King adaptation, Doctor Sleep. The film begins in one of King’s sleepy small towns, where a schoolteacher (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) tries to keep...

Mike Flanagan gives fans a disappointing if hopeful update on his Exorcist movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the acclaimed filmmaker recently confirmed that "production hasn't started" on his hotly-anticipated Exorcist film. Flanagan went on to note that the film had been pulled from Universal Pictures' release calendar for 2026, primarily due to production on the upcoming Carrie reboot. "No way it's coming out next March," Flanagan said before promising fans that there is still "nothing to worry about though."
Announced back in May 2024, Flanagan's Exorcist film will be produced via Blumhouse Productions and Morgan Creek. While Universal Pictures had originally planned to produce an entire trilogy of Exorcist films with director David Gordon Green, the poor reception of Green's 2023 film The Exorcist: Believer drove the studio to change their plan for the future of the entire franchise. At the time, it was stated that the film would not be...

When it was announced that Mike Flanagan would be acting as showrunner on a new TV adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, there was one question on everyone’s lips. Why? Having been made into a movie back in 1976 starring Sissy Spacek and John Travolta, and having remakes, sequels, and previous TV miniseries, what could possibly make anyone see the need for yet another version of the same story? It seems that was a question bugging the show’s star, Matthew Lillard, too.
Lillard, who is known for his roles in the Scream franchise, Scooby-Doo, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, takes on the role of Principal Grayle, the head of the school attended by King’s troubled teenager. While speaking about the upcoming project with The Kingcast, the actor addressed the reason that Flanagan is making another version of Carrie’s story – and how he will not be copying an infamous Alfred Hitchcock remake.

Streaming is a great convince, but every convenience comes at a cost. In this case, the cost comes in the form of accessibility. Sure, you’ve got tons of options at your fingertips, but what happens when one of your favorite films is no longer available to stream? That’s precisely what happened with Mike Flanagan’s Hush. The film was a Netflix exclusive for several years, but when the licensing deal expired, the film became unavailable to watch anywhere. Fortunately, Hush is more widely accessible now than ever. The picture is currently available on both physical media and streaming.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the saga, I’ll provide some context. Netflix previously owned the exclusive rights to Hush. When the deal expired, fans were understandably bummed because that meant that Hush wasn’t available to watch anywhere. That makes the film’s eventual re-addition to streaming (not...

The Stephen King horror classic of 1974, Carrie, is set to receive another reboot. This time, the chosen format is a TV series, and the visionary in charge of bringing it to life is Mike Flanagan, the director who has previously adapted the author's works Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game. Little is known about the upcoming Prime Video series, but Flanagan recently revealed why everyone should be excited about the new take on the horror classic.
Naturally, one of the key components of the series is the casting–especially that of Carrie White. Summer Howell, known for her roles in the TV series Channel Zero and films like Cult of Chucky and Hunter Hunter, has now been chosen to portray the shy-yet-powerful teenager. And while Flanagan says she wasn't an easy find, he also says that she's the reason why fans should be excited for the show.
