Godzilla x Kong: Supernova aims to have a compelling human element
Godzilla and King Ghidorah in Godzilla II : Roi des monstres (2019)
More than a decade has passed since Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and a couple of months ago, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. officially announced that filming is underway, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release, and giving it a title – Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Dakota Johnson Is Headed for 'Splitsville' in New Comedy Trailer
Image
It's Splitsville for one couple, and maybe two, in the first trailer for Michael Angelo Covino's new sex comedy. Dakota Johnson (Materialists) and Adria Arjona (Andor) star as a pair of women whose husbands make utter fools of themselves in the film, which mines comedy from the concept of an open marriage. Splitsville made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and will premiere in theaters on August 22. As the trailer opens, Ashley (Arjona) asks Carey for a divorce. To say he doesn't take it well would be an understatement: he gets out of the car and runs away, eventually ending up at the luxurious home of their friends Paul (Covino) and Julie (Johnson).

They reveal that the secret to the success of their own marriage is that they're non-monogamous. So that means Paul should be cool with it when Carey ends up in bed with Julie,...

Adria Arjona Felt “a Great Honor” Saying the Word “Rape” in ‘Star Wars’ TV Series
Image
Adria Arjona is still on a high from the positive response to the premiere of her latest project, Splitsville, at the Cannes Film Festival. “I think people sometimes forget that actors don’t really get that unless you’re in the theater, unless you’re performing [live],” she tells THR. “When you get that applause, you’re like, ‘Ok, I’m in the right zone.’ ”

Arjona’s zone is a bit left of center, which made co-starring alongside Michael Angelo Covino — who also co-wrote, directed and produced the movie about two couples who drift apart — fun. “I’m a quirky girl,” she insists. “I just look a certain way and people don’t think I am, but I’m weird.”

The remarriage comedy is a big departure from Arjona’s most well-known role to date — Bix Caleen in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor — but in that way, it perfectly aligns...

James Gunn Compares Superman's 'Human Story' To Oscar-Winning Godzilla Film
Image
Superman is arguably one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. According to director James Gunn, the story will resemble one of the King of the Monsters' most successful films in years.

Speaking to Japanese outlet Cinema Today, Gunn talked about finding an intimate side to Superman's story amid all the fantastical elements, citing 2023's Godzilla Minus One as a great example. "My goal is to make a film like Godzilla Minus One, which depicted Godzilla but also had great human drama," he said in a translation via GamesRadar+. He also noted that, despite Superman's alien nature, the film, "at its core is a human story. The relationship between Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and (villain) Lex Luthor is the core of the work."

Released in celebration of the Japanese movie icon's 70th anniversary, Godzilla Minus One received universal acclaim overseas, eventually smashing the American box office record for highest-grossing non-English movie.

John Travolta’s Reaction After an Intense Nicolas Cage Choked Him on the Set of Face/Off
Image
Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is among the coolest action movies of the 90s. The unconventional plot, John Woo’s direction, and performances have made the 1997 movie a cult classic. Though the makers were initially skeptical of the bizarre plot of the movie, Face/Off became a blockbuster.

Recently, a BTS footage from Face/Off went viral that showed the filming of a fight scene between Travolta and Cage. In the clip, we can see Travolta being choked by Nicolas Cage, who seems to be too much into his character.

John Travolta could not believe Nicolas Cage would be so intense during Face/Off filming A still from Face/Off | Credits: Paramount Pictures

The story of Face/Off was undoubtedly too crazy on pen and paper. A plot featuring a dedicated FBI agent, Sean Archer (John Travolta), swapping faces with an international terrorist, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), sounds quite difficult to pay off on-screen.

Elden Ring: Alex Garland will write & direct video game adaptation for A24
Alex Garland in 28 jours plus tard (2002)
Update: It’s official. Alex Garland will write and direct a live-action Elden Ring movie for A24 and video-game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. I can’t say this is the project I expected Garland to tackle, but I’m excited to see how it turns out.

— Original article follows —

A24 is best known for releasing films like The Witch, The Florida Project, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Lady Bird, The Disaster Artist, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems, Best Picture winners Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All at Once, etc. They’ve largely been considered to be an arthouse company – but we’ve known for a while now that they’re trying to shift their strategy from arthouse films to more commercial films, including action and big IP projects. This strategy includes the recently released war movie Warfare, Adam Wingard’s gonzo horror action movie Onslaught, the UFC movie The Smashing Machine,...

'Only 1 Letter Apart': Nicolas Cage Reveals the Celebrity He's Constantly Mistaken For
Image
Nicolas Cage is a one-of-a-kind actor, but that doesn't mean he's not often confused with another celebrity. Cage has named the person he seems to get confused with the most, though it comes down to having similar names more than a physical resemblance.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Cage was asked about Aussie musician Nick Cave. Cage shared that he's confused with Cave often, though it's not the only musician people mistake him for. With that said, Cage remembers when he once met Cave at an animal sanctuary. It wasn't lost on the two how similar their names were, and Cage recalled mentioning that to Cave in person.

"I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where I’m not mistaken for Nick Cave. People also say: 'Hey, Nick, you were great in The Hunger,' which is this great David Bowie movie [in which Cage doesn’t feature]," Cage said.

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova: Everything We Know So Far About The Kaiju Sequel
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The MonsterVerse has become one of the most reliable, slow and steady cinematic universes going in Hollywood. Tracing its roots back to Gareth Edwards' gritty, grounded, divisive hit "Godzilla" in 2014, the franchise has since expanded to five increasingly wild movies, a TV show in the form of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," comics books, and even video games. Now, Warner Bros. and Legendary are reuniting once again for another kaiju-filled cinematic romp coming our way in 2027.

While virtually nothing has been revealed yet in terms of plot details, the studio has confirmed that "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" has an official release date. Given that 2024's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" became the biggest movie in MonsterVerse history, that's not remotely surprising. So, what is "Supernova" going to bring to the table? Does the term relating to the implosion of a...

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Goes 'Supernova' With Explosive New Title
Image
The MonsterVerse just got a whole lot hotter. Legendary Pictures has officially revealed the title for its next kaiju showdown, and it’s going nuclear — the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is now titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. While plot details are still sealed tighter than Hollow Earth, the title itself is already sparking theories. Supernova? Are we going cosmic this time? Is an intergalactic Titan on the way? And more importantly: will Godzilla and Kong need space suits? If they don't, we're out.

Production is already underway in Queensland, Australia, marking the fourth MonsterVerse entry to shoot in the region after Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary is once again rolling cameras at Village Roadshow Studios, where the film is expected to pump over Aud$93 million into the local economy and support more than 400 cast and crew members. “I was so upset”: One Piece’s Mihawk Steven John Ward Is Relieved He Lost His Role in Netflix’s Death Note
Image
Live-action adaptations have always been a disappointment for anime fans who only hope to see their favorite anime adapted in real life. Among these cursed anime live-action adaptations, the one that felt the most disappointing was Death Note, which came out on Netflix in 2017.

The live-action movie was one of the most anticipated projects for Death Note fans, but these anticipations turned into regret because of the way the movie desecrated the entire story of the original Death Note. The movie tried to westernize the concept of Death Note and thus failed miserably.

Its failure was so big that actor Steven John Ward, who plays Dracule Mihawk in the One Piece live-action, was happy when he lost his role in the movie during the auditions. He once talked about how he auditioned for a role in the Death Note movie, but got rejected. However, he was actually happy when he...

Willem Dafoe Didn’t Watch Death Note Anime Completely Before Voicing Ryuk in Netflix’s Live Action
Image
Everyone knows about Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Death Note, but no one wants to watch it (for obvious reasons). Fans frown upon the adaptation for ruining an iconic story by twisting the plot and changing the characters without proper justification.

The only good thing to come out of it is perhaps Willem Dafoe’s role as Ryuk, the Shinigami who gives the Death Note to Light. Fans were impressed, deeming his voice perfect for the death god. But did you know that despite doing such a good job at voicing Ryuk, Dafoe had never watched the anime before taking up the job?

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Roars to Life With Gargantuan Filming Update
Image
The MonsterVerse is back in action — and bigger than ever. Legendary Pictures has officially kicked off production on the untitled Godzilla x Kong sequel, with cameras rolling in Queensland, Australia. This marks the fourth MonsterVerse film to shoot in Queensland, following Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary Pictures has once again set up shop at Village Roadshow Studios, where production will inject an estimated Aud$93 million into the local economy and employ over 400 cast and crew.

But we're not here for the Australian economy, we're here for the Titan-sized turmoil on display, with yet another apocalyptic threat that forces Godzilla and Kong to once again team up — hopefully with more tag-team takedowns and less dental trauma. If history is any indication, expect skyscraper-level destruction, ancient monsters, and at least one slow-motion roar into the void.

'Why Did I Do This?': Sam Neill Pays Tribute to Jurassic Park in Hilariously Bizarre Video

Neill celebrated Jurassic Park in a video posted to TikTok in which he drives through a field with an inflatable Tyranosaurus Rex in tow. ‘Invention’ Review: Callie Hernandez and Courtney Stephens Take the Grief Drama to Strange New Places
Image
Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Locarno Film Festival. “Invention” plays at the Metrograph in New York starting Friday, April 18.

When it comes to meta experiments that blur those good ole lines between fiction and the filmmakers’ own non-fiction life stories, there’s a risk that the resulting feature can border on being impenetrable if audiences aren’t fed a load of exposition in advance. That’s far less of an issue for classically-told narratives from mega-famous artists delving into (semi)autobiography (like Steven Spielberg with “The Fabelmans”), but definitely so for smaller scale projects from independent filmmakers whose output is more peculiar. What can be a compelling behind-the-scenes story as described in a press kit may not necessarily translate into the finished feature as something engaging, or even coherent, to anyone coming to the work without the luxury of reading production notes before the screening.

Plot details are being kept strictly under wraps for now, but the studio has teased that the new film, which is being helmed by Grant Sputore, will follow “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

It's up for debate what that cataclysmic world-ending threat could be, but the previous film's director Adam Wingard teased last year that, if he were to direct the next film, Destoroyah might be in the cards. Speaking with Discussing Film, he said,

"I’ll say this, one of my top Godzilla movies is Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. The reason it’s one of my favorite films is I don’t think any other Godzilla movie,...

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Is Bringing a 'Jurassic Park' Legend to Skull Island
Image
Hold onto your Titans — Godzilla x Kong is about to welcome a Jurassic legend. Now, if you're filming a movie in Australia, you might as well use some (semi) local talent to help pad out your cast. You look across the water to New Zealand, what do you find? Oh my god, it's Sam Neill, best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Dominion (the one with the giant bugs), who has officially joined the cast of Legendary’s untitled Godzilla x Kong sequel. While Neill’s role is still under wraps, his addition brings major dinosaur-era credibility to a franchise already known for its colossal scale and prehistoric punch. Because Godzilla looks like a dinosaur, get it?

Neill joins a packed and stacked cast that includes Dan Stevens, returning as Trapper Beasley from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, along with Kaitlyn Dever (currently...

Alexander Skarsgård Reveals the Truth About Those 'Monsterverse' Rumors
Image
If you're one of the ones that thought Alexander Skarsgård should have gotten more screen time in 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, you're not alone, as the star himself recently revealed that there were a lot more scenes with his character of Dr. Nathan Lind that ended up on the cutting room floor. Skarsgård appeared in the Monsterverse sequel as the Hollow Earth theorist, and while he definitely played a pivotal role in the film by reviving Kong toward the end of the movie, there have been rumors since that his part had a lot more meat on the bones.

Speaking with Empire (via Comicbook.com), Skarsgård confirmed that those rumors are true, admitting that "there was definitely more of a backstory" to Lind that fans didn't get to see. He called them "more character-driven scenes" which didn't necessarily fit into director Adam Wingard's overall vision once principal photography was complete.

Image
Alexander Skarsgårdis among the actors who completely disappear behind their characters – from The Legend of Tarzan and Big Little Lies, to playing the namesake robot in the upcoming Murderbot. Skarsgård has always been a fan favorite for his performances. And while all this was only speculation among the fandom, Skarsgård recently spoke about the reduced arc of his character, Dr. Nathan Lind, and his creatively fulfilling relationship with director Adam Wingard.

“There was definitely more of a backstory, more character-driven scenes that ended up on the cutting-room floor,” Skarsgård explained. Dr. Nathan Lind was introduced as a discredited geologist whose theories about Hollow Earth eventually proved correct and stayed an indispensable part of the narrative, even...

Alycia Debnam-Carey joins Godzilla x Kong sequel
Image
A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now in the works – and Deadline reports that Alycia Debnam-Carey of Fear the Walking Dead has joined the cast!

Debnam-Carey recently shared the screen with Kaitlyn Dever in the Netflix series Apple Cider Vinegar, and the actresses are reuniting on this MonsterVerse project.

Jean-Claude Van Damme in Chasse à l'homme (1993)
Bloodsport | A24 has eyes on a remake
Jean-Claude Van Damme in Chasse à l'homme (1993)
The 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme favourite Bloodsport has emerged as a remake candidate for A24. More here.

Who knew that 2025 would be the year of Bloodsport? While the 1988 martial arts flick may hold a cherished place in the heart of many a Jean-Claude Van Damme fan, there surely aren’t too many folks out there that put a Bloodsport revival on their bingo card for this year.

However, the signs have been present for some time that the film’s enduring legacy would lead us to a remake getting off the ground. A couple of attempts have already been made over the years, with Dead Calm director Philip Noyce and V For Vendetta's James McTeigue both trying to get a version of Bloodsport off the ground but without success.

Then this year launched with the news that a group of former Call Of Duty developers were working on a...

Bloodsport: A24 in negotiations for the remake rights
Jean-Claude Van Damme, Forest Whitaker, and Bolo Yeung in Bloodsport, tous les coups sont permis (1988)
Cannon Films weren’t satisfied with their 1988 martial arts tournament movie Bloodsport, but when they reluctantly sent it out into the world in 1988 it proved to be a big hit, launching Jean-Claude Van Damme’s career as an action hero. The film was followed by three sequels, none of which starred Van Damme – and for the last couple of decades, there have been rumblings about a revival. Twenty years ago, Bloodsport co-writer Sheldon Lettich tried to get a film called Bloodsport: A New Beginning off the ground, but the project fell apart. In 2011, Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm) was attached to direct a “reinvention,” working from a screenplay by The Karate Kid creator Robert Mark Kamen. In 2013, James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) replaced Noyce at the helm. The project never made it into production. In 2019, there was a rumor that John Wick directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski were considering making a Bloodsport remake.

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Just Moved a Titan-Sized Step Closer To Theaters
Image
The MonsterVerse is officially roaring back into action. Kaitlyn Dever, one of the stars of the next chapter in Godzilla x Kong, has confirmed that production is underway on the highly anticipated sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Speaking to 7 News Australia during The Last of Us Season 2 premiere in Sydney, Dever—who is set to debut as Abby in HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama—revealed she’s currently filming the new Godzilla movie in Queensland.

“I’m shooting another film up in Queensland right now,” Dever said, adding that she “can’t get enough” of Australia after starring in Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar. When asked directly whether the mystery project was the Godzilla sequel, it's fair to say her poker face is not her greatest asset. “It would be,” she confirmed. “It would be, yes. I feel like I can say that now that this is.

'Godzilla x Kong 3' Is Filming Now in Queensland, Australia
Image
The original Godzilla vs. Kong film, released in 2021, was initially meant to serve as the epic conclusion to Legendary's North American reimagining of the classic Toho monster. As it turns out, this epic monster action film would become the most successful film in the series up to that point, a much-needed win after the somewhat disappointing box office haul of 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The success would lead to the 2024 sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, turning Godzilla and King Kong into allies instead of enemies, with the film making enough money to warrant a third installment, which is now confirmed to be in production thanks to a comment from an actor in the film.

At the Sydney premiere of the upcoming second season of HBO's The Last of Us, actor Kaitlyn Dever revealed that production on the currently untitled Godzilla x Kong 3 has begun. Dever told...
