Exclusive: MRC is set to independently finance The Gallerist, Cathy Yan’s new film starring the previously announced Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega.

The company also today officially confirmed the remaining cast for the film, which includes Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Emmy nominee Zach Galifianakis (Only Murders in the Building), Golden Globe nominee Daniel Brühl (The Franchise), Grammy nominee Charli xcx (I Want Your Sex), and Oscar and Tony winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (Wednesday).

According to a report by Deadline, Ortega is eyeing a lead role in the upcoming feature, ‘The Gallerist,’ which is set to center on “a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami.”

‘Birds of Prey’s’ Cathy Yan will direct the script, which she co-wrote with James Pedersen. In addition to starring, Portman is also attached as a producer alongside Sophie Mas, Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, and Zola Elgart Glassman.

Oscar winner Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega are reportedly in discussions to star in Cathy Yans new film, The Gallerist. Deadline states the pair could head up the film that follows the operator of an art gallery who conspires to sell a dead man at Art Basel Miami.

Portman, who won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2011 for her part in 2010s Black Swan, is a producer on the film with Sophie Mas, through their MountainA production company. Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron and Zola Elgart Glassman are producing The Gallerist.

After coming face-to-face with the Ghost With the Most in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega will deal with another dead guy alongside Natalie Portman in Cathy Yan‘s upcoming film The Gallerist. Ortega and Portman are circling the project, which finds the Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn helmer back in the director’s chair. In addition to directing the picture, Yan co-wrote the screenplay with James Pedersen. In addition to her starring role, Portman produces the film alongside Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, Sophie Mas, and Zola Elgart Glassman.

Details about The Gallerist are scarce. Still, Deadline says the film focuses on a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami. If Portman and Ortega join the movie, Yan’s next project could become one of the hottest tickets in Tinsel Town.
