  • Grew out of Bob Dylan's 1960s backing band. They adopted their name while Dylan was out of action, recovering from a motorcycle accident.
  • Lived together in a pink-colored house called "Big Pink", with the basement used as rehearsal space; their first album was titled "Music From Big Pink". Bob Dylan's jam sessions at the house were recorded, bootlegged, then later released officially as "The Basement Tapes".
  • Their first album, Music From Big Pink (1968), is ranked number 34 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
