With win over Barca, Erik Ten Hag raises hopes of Manchester United bringing back glory days
Image
Manchester, Feb 24 (Ians) Before this Thursday, Barcelona enjoyed the upper hand in their head-to-head series against Manchester United, winning 6 out of the 15 clashes across all competitions in Europe.

In the Champions League, Manchester United, the dominant force in England a couple of decades back, have met Spanish giants Barcelona 10 times, of which the Red Devils have won just once. That win came way back in 2008 when a Paul Scholes goal in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal put the English club in the final. United went on to win that final in what remains their last Champions League triumph.

They have a better record in Europa League in which the two teams have met twice. The first game ended in a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou and the match set a Europa League attendance record of 90,255 fans in the stadium. In the second leg of the same tie,...

Soccer Aid for Unicef star players including Sir Mo Farah and Olly Murs joined the Prime Minister to celebrate change made possible by the generous donations of the British public, who have previously raised more than £24 million for Soccer Aid for Unicef since the first match in 2006.

The reception also welcomed young reporter Kendra, aged 14, who travelled to see how donations to Soccer Aid for Unicef can help children in Lesotho, school children and Unicef UK Children’s Champions – members of the public...

Soccer Aid Goes Dutch As Stam, Van Der Sar And Kluivert All Sign-Up To Play
Three of Holland’s most decorated players have announced they will take part in Soccer Aid for Unicef this summer.

Patrick Kluivert will make his debut for the Soccer Aid World XI, with Jaap Stam returning at the heart of the defence in front of goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar who has also starred previously.

The Dutch triumvirate – two of which, Stam and van der Sar, enjoyed successful club careers with Manchester United at Old Trafford – will team up with compatriot Clarence Seedorf who has already announced that he too will play for the Soccer Aid World XI.

An imposing central defender, Jaap Stam won a range of trophies with some of Europe’s top clubs across a 15-year career. Included in this was a three-year stay at Manchester United, where he is remembered fondly as part of the ’99 treble-winning side.

Edwin van der Sar was one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation.
