Former father-in-law of Elizabeth Taylor.

His strong religious beliefs included taking the phrase "til death do us part" seriously. His first wife left him against his will in 1934. When he married Zsa Zsa Gabor in 1942, he divorced her 4 years later due to this belief, stating that had he waited another hour to propose to her, he wouldn't have. He finally got married for the last time in 1976 when his first wife passed away.

His father was a Norwegian immigrant and his maternal grandparents were German immigrants.

Both of his children died before one of their parents. His son Conrad Jr died ten years before Conrad did and his daughter Francesca died just under two years before her mother Zsa Zsa Gabor.

His second son, William Barron Hilton (1927-2019), was the first owner of the San Diego Chargers and chairman emeritus of the family foundation.
