Fans already know Sergio Leone is the father of the "Spaghetti Western" and has had a significant impact on cinema. There will truly be no greater masterpiece in the sub-genre than The Good, The Bad and the Ugly or a more masterful body of work than the Dollars Trilogy. Leone shaped the direction of Westerns worldwide in the '60s and then continued to prove he was one of the greatest auteurs of all time throughout the rest of his career. He's usually the only Sergio fans think of when they think of Spaghetti Westerns. However, there was another Sergio who had just as big an impact on the sub-genre. In fact, Sergio Corbucci made more Spaghetti Westerns in his career than Sergio Leone.
Perhaps his most iconic film is the 1966 film Django, which got mainstream publicity after Quentin Tarantino's 2012 film Django Unchained. However, Corbucci made several great Spaghetti...

What to do with The Magnificent Ambersons, director Orson Welles’ follow-up to Citizen Kane? More than seven decades after the movie hit cinemas, it remains a flashpoint of discussion and debate among cinephiles. Some proclaim it as one of the Greatest Movies Ever Made, a worthy successor in style and substance to Citizen Kane. Others, including Welles himself, decry the studio interference that diluted the directorial vision, deeming the film a bastardized mishmash of tone and style.
But in a vacuum, unencumbered by the movie’s considerable baggage, how does The Magnificent Ambersons play today? The story of an American family at the turn of the 20th century living on the brink of Industrial Revolution, Welles’ film has no shortage of stunning imagery, innovation, or human drama. Even if the movie didn’t fulfill Welles’ original vision, the final product does deserve mention as an American classic: one that offers...

Kraven the Hunter promises an action-packed adventure when the movie finally hits the big screen. But despite its R-rating, the story is essentially about the relationship between Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his father, Nikolai (Russell Crowe).
"I think at the core of the story, there's a real family drama," Taylor-Johnson told GamesRadar+. "You see these two boys being brought up in a very toxic environment. Their father is this Russian gangster, the head of this mobster gang, and eventually he wants to hand the business over." Problems arise when Sergei refuses to follow in his father's footsteps. "That kind of sends my character down this journey of becoming a vigilante and his path to being a villain."

With less than a week to go until Kraven the Hunter arrives in theaters, excitement still seems relatively muted among fans. Sony Pictures tried to increase interest by releasing the first 8 minutes, and while the preview received a mostly positive response, it was also quickly forgotten after dropping early on Monday morning.
GamesRadar+ recently caught up with director J.C. Chandor and lead star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and the filmmaker hyped up the Marvel movie's "spectacular" stunts.
"There was a sort of a relentlessness to the character that we both picked up on. He just never seems to give in. I really wanted the stunts, right from the beginning of designing them, to have a reality to them," he teased. "You can kind of get away with doing anything right now with the technology that we have, so it's about almost limiting what the character can do."

Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters soon, and this latest Sony Spider-Man Universe project looks to be the most violent one yet. Set to the tune of Johnny Cash's The Man Comes Around, the bloody red-band trailer for the film featured all sorts of animalistic action. In between all the bloodshed were hints at a larger family dynamic with the Kravinoffs, Kraven's family, who will no doubt play an integral role in the story and origin of the character.
In an interview with Collider, Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson talked about how the inclusion of certain characters, like Kraven's father, portrayed by Russell Crowe in the film, would give insight into the character's origins and fill in the gaps that fans of the character may find interesting. Taylor-Johnson would even compare this development of Kraven and the tone of the movie to something along the...

In his latest film Quiet Life, director Alexandros Avranas takes on a challenging issue that few are aware of—child resignation syndrome. The movie first screened at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where audiences were introduced to a family’s struggle against all odds.
Sergei, Natalia, and their daughters have fled their home in Russia, seeking asylum in Sweden to escape danger. There they eagerly learn the language and immerse themselves in their new community while waiting for a decision on their application. But faced with rejection, despair sets in.
Their younger daughter Katja suddenly falls ill with resignation syndrome, a condition where trauma causes children to withdraw completely into an unresponsive state. As Katja’s health declines and hopes of appealing the decision vanish, the family is thrust deeper into uncertainty.
Avranas does not shy away from depicting the bleak realities they confront—from indifferent bureaucracy to a clinic that...

Kraven the Hunter is just two months from release, and now we've been given another glimpse of the Sony and Marvel collaboration which brings one of Spider-Man's most iconic enemies to the big screen. The images, shown off during a panel at New York Comic Con, give us a fresh look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, and Russell Crowe as his father, Nikolai Kravinoff, no doubt plotting some sort of nefarious scheme as Sergei attempts to win his dad's admiration and respect.

Stranger Things season 5 needs higher stakes, and Gaten Matarazzo suggests killing off main characters for more impact. The show has been too safe with its main characters, so Stranger Things needs to take risks and deliver surprises in its final season. The deaths in season 5 should be meaningful and not just for shock value.
Stranger Things season 5 will bring the series to an end, and while plot details are still unknown, Gaten Matarazzo’s pitch for what season 5 should be like is exactly what the show needs. After four successful seasons with many adventures, mysteries, and tragedies, Stranger Things is coming to an end with season 5, which has a lot to cover and solve in order to give the show a satisfying ending. Stranger Things season 4 ended on a massive cliffhanger, with the Upside Down taking over Hawkins after Eleven and company couldn’t defeat Vecna.

Filmmakers Sergei Spirin and Andrei Beresnev’s spiritual drama Iyov follows a lone individual named Job who, in the aftermath of a profound loss, searches for meaning as he battles depression. Visually, the co-directors evoke the work of Emmanuel Lubezki, whose awe-inspiring wide-lensed work with Terrence Malick and Alejandro Iñárritu similarly draws upon profound philosophical themes, with characters negotiating their place amongst immense environments. Spirin and Beresnev’s tale sees Job’s journey throughout several stunning locations across Georgia, highlighting the beauty of the world he struggles to remain a part of. Dn is delighted to premiere Iyov on our pages today and joined Spirin and Beresnev for a comprehensive conversation about their journey creating the film, covering the personal story of loss that inspired it, the inspiration of Lubezki and Malick, and their working approach to creating beautiful cinematography.
