Mary-Lyn Chambers was born in Fiji, raised in Nauru and New Zealand, and worked in Los Angeles, London and Doha; including ten years for the Independent Spirit Awards and the LA Film Festival. She is known for stories about inequality in the narrative space with mixed cultures and languages. She is a current directing fellow in the DEGANZ Female incubator, alumni from the Sony Pictures Television Diverse Directors Program, Film Independent's Project Involve, and the Alliance of Women Directors' Career Advancement Program.

KARANGA, in a collaboration with choreographer Merenia Gray and funded by Creative New Zealand, premiered at Maoriland. Chambers won a $50K grant from Film Independent to create a PSA series about childhood trauma. Her Imagen Award-nominated short film pilot TIJUANA screened at Slamdance, Bentonville, HollyShorts film festivals and was one of eight films selected out of 500 to attend the TV development conference Content London in their Short2Series program.

Chamber's short THE PLURAL OF BLOOD won Best TV Pilot at the 2018 Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival. DEBRIS (ESCOMBROS), exploring child refugees in a U.S. Immigration Detention Center, screened at The American Pavilion, Diversity in Cannes, and participated in the United Nations Refugee Voices in Film Conference at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. DEBRIS traveled the globe garnering multiple awards including Best International Short Film at the Manchester Film Festival and Best Female Director at HollyShorts.

Chambers is known for hiring women and minorities and is vocal about inclusion and equality. She holds work eligibility in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the United States.
