"I'm Cool With That": This 'Friday Night Lights' Quarterback Is Open To Return in the Reboot
Image
The willingness to embrace revivals often depends on the legacy of the original show. Typically, the more iconic a series is, the more hesitant fans are about a reboot, fearing it could tarnish its reputation. However, the recently announced Friday Night Lights revival appears to be an exception. Widely regarded as one of the greatest TV shows ever made, the news of its revival has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from both fans and its cast members. Now, another major star has expressed interest in returning. Michael B. Jordan, who played quarterback Vince Howard in the latter part of the series, has shared that he’s open to reprising his role in some capacity.

Friday Night Lights Ending Explained (In Detail)
Image
Friday Night Lights ended with an unconventional, ambiguous finish, reflecting the show's realistic portrayal of small-town football and relationships. Season 5 wrapped up character arcs while leaving room for interpretation, like the merger of East Dillon and Dillon Panthers programs. Coach and Tami Taylor's bittersweet move to Philadelphia symbolized their enduring partnership and individual growth outside of Texas football.

The Friday Night Lights ending brought the beloved drama show to a close but left some plot elements ambiguous. As was typical with Friday Night Lights, the series steered away from a conventional feel-good narrative resolution while still giving its cast a fitting send-off. Season 5 saw Coach Eric Taylor back in charge of the East Dillon Lions, based in the underdeveloped east side of the town. After struggling during Coach Taylor's first season in charge, East Dillon became a powerhouse, making it to the Texas State Championship game.

The season also included...

I Am Legend 2 Cast & Character Guide: Erik Killmonger To Star In Will Smith Sequel
Image
Audiences will return to the desolate wasteland of I Am Legend in a highly anticipated sequel, and some exciting actors have already joined the I Am Legend 2 cast. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, I Am Legend takes place in a world where an airborne cure for cancer killed 99% of the world’s population and turned everyone else into vampiric mutants known as “Darkseekers.” Will Smith stars as Dr. Robert Neville, the last man on Earth (or so it seems), determined to use his scientific know-how to figure out a way to save humanity. Now, Smith is returning for a long-awaited sequel to I Am Legend.

I Am Legend was released way back in 2007, but the sequel is still in development. Smith’s character of Neville was killed off at the end of I Am Legend in a tragic sacrifice. However, I Am Legend 2 will follow on from the alternate ending...

10 Most Inspirational Quotes In Friday Night Lights
Image
In July 2022, Taylor Kitsch told Variety that he wouldn't reprise his role of Tim Riggins if there was ever another Friday Night Lights show. The actor said, "I’m done. I’m good. I want to keep growing as an actor. Going back to Rigs — let him live in everyone else’s memories. Whatever that is, whatever he means to them, let him lay there.”

A revival or reboot would likely be just as emotional and moving as the original series, as the main characters help each other through the joys and pains of high school football. Whether Coach Taylor is giving his clever and necessary pep talks or Tim Riggins shares his love for his hometown, there are many memorable motivational quotes in Friday Night Lights.

Michael B. Jordan's Mother Had To Be Taken Off The Wire Set During This Scene
Michael B. Jordan
Long before Michael B. Jordan got to play Killmonger in "Black Panther" or Vince Howard in "Friday Night Lights," he got his first major role as Wallace in season 1 of "The Wire." Described by showrunner David Simon as the "emotional center" of the first season, Wallace is one of the youngest and most innocent members of Avon Barksdale's crew. Although he takes part in the drug trade, he's averse to violence and still has a lot of childlike interests that get him into trouble with the other gang members. After their crew is robbed while Wallace was supposed to...

Michael B. Jordan’s Upcoming Movies: What’s Next After Without Remorse
Michael B. Jordan
It has been such a pleasure watching Michael B. Jordan evolve onscreen. From his breakout as Wallace, the emotional center of the first season of The Wire, to Vince Howard, the anchor of the latter seasons of Friday Night Lights, on to film projects that showcased his true leading man ability like Creed and Fruitvale Station, Jordan has always projected both naturalism and star power. He’s been compared to Denzel Washington by The Hollywood Reporter, listed as a “rising young star” in just about every media trade publication, and has even been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Yet despite this, Jordan still projects an everyman quality that makes him believable in superhero spectacles and courtroom dramas alike.

Jordan’s next film is Without Remorse, which hits Amazon Prime on Friday. Based on the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Without Remorse is a film set in the...

How Jon Alston Went From NFL Player to Social Justice Filmmaker (Guest Blog)
Michael B. Jordan
Long before he became one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, Michael B. Jordan won raves for his portrayal of the complex Dillon Lions quarterback Vince Howard on the acclaimed NBC drama “Friday Night Lights.” His character’s scrappy, inspiring journey from a troubled family to a triumphant success story was not lost on Jon Alston, an NFL linebacker-soon-to-be-filmmaker, who was traveling a rocky road of his own.

So a decade later, when Alston’s award-winning short film “Augustus” was selected for the recent Social Justice Now Film Festival — where Michael B. Jordan serves as co-ambassador — the coincidence was, well, a touchdown. Jordan’s films “Just Mercy” and “Fruitvale Station” opened the Festival at the Paramount Drive-In Theater, kicking off a slate of virtual screenings that explored themes of racial inequalities.

Alston played college football at Stanford before being drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2006 NFL draft.

Icebox from Little Giants Is the Favorite in Football Movie First Pick Twitter Poll
Shawna Waldron in NightLights (2014)
The internet is having a great time pitting fictional football players up against each other. Little Giants player Icebox seems to be the clear winner in much of the social media posts. She's beating out Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who actually played football in real-life, and Keanu Reeves' Shane Falco. Shawna Waldron plays Becky "Icebox" O'Shea in the 1994 sports comedy and she is the clear winner of an online poll looking for the best fictional football players.

Football movies are getting a lot of attention at the moment, along with other movies having to do with sports since everything is canceled. Fans are having to watch highlights or result to other forms of entertainment, which usually leads to social media. A Twitter poll has asked for the best fictional football player out of ten players which includes Bobby Boucher, Jr. from The Water Boy, Becky "Icebox" O'Shea from Little Giants,...

Will Michael B. Jordan win his first Emmy for ‘Fahrenheit 451’ in the wake of his ‘Black Panther’ success?
Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan is an Emmy contender this year for his leading role in the dystopian HBO telefilm “Fahrenheit 451,” which premieres on May 20. He plays Guy Montag, a “fireman” whose job is to burn books. The actor is coming off of a string of big-screen successes, including “Black Panther” earlier this year, and it’s not uncommon for an actor to leverage a recent movie hit into an Emmy victory. Will Jordan be the latest?

Jordan has risen in prominence thanks in large part to his collaborations with director Ryan Coogler. They first teamed up for the critically acclaimed independent film “Fruitvale Station” (2013) about an unarmed black man shot and killed by police in the Bay Area. Then they scaled up with “Creed” (2015), a modestly budgeted “Rocky” sequel in which Jordan played the son of former Rocky rival Apollo Creed. That film was also admired by critics, and it...

12 Best Movie and TV Quarterbacks of All Time
Chris Longo Nick Harley Sep 4, 2019

With a new NFL season starting up, we take a look at the best fictional quarterbacks in TV and film history.

It's become almost an annual rite of passage to root against Tom Brady. I mean, look at him, the handsome man who spent a pre-Super Bowl press conference a few years ago rambling on about ball preference. I don’t care how old you are, Brady talking about people preferring “old balls” is pretty hilarious. He won his sixth Super Bowl in 2019, the most ever by any NFL player, and continues to give us reason to root against him by being so damn good.

Brady's career seems like it's taken right out of a film script, either a drama about a diabolical ego-maniac so possessed with winning that he’s been creatively cheating for years, or a feel-good-story about a diamond in the rough...

Friday Night Lights: the American football drama you don't have to be a sports fan to love
Feature Glen Chapman 30 Aug 2013 - 07:00

Glen talks us through the reasons Friday Night Lights is essential viewing whether you're a sports fan or not...

"Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose." This saying is repeated often throughout Friday Night Lights, NBC’s critically lauded 2006-2011 high school football drama. It's not only a mantra of the American football team around which the show revolves, but also provides a nice summation of the drama’s themes and the way in which it was made. Sure, the creators and characters faced their fair share of obstacles along the way, but the end result justified the struggles and hard work.

Despite being widely loved by critics, Friday Night Lights suffered with poor ratings and as a result faced cancellation on a number of occasions, notably at the end of the second series (the show’s weakest by some distance, no doubt thanks in...

Michael B. Jordan On Potential Friday Night Lights Movie: The Taylors Are Universal
Michael B. Jordan may currently be promoting his new drama, Fruitvale Station, in which he portrays the real Oscar Grant III in his final hours, but to me, he’ll always be Vince Howard from Friday Night Lights. And even though bringing beloved television shows to the big screen doesn’t always work, I can’t help getting excited whenever someone mentions the possibility of a Fnl film. (I should know better!) And then I want to take a trip to the Alamo Freeze. Immediately.

If Connie Britton and Brian Grazer are going to tease us with thoughts about a potential continuation of the story, it’s only fair to ask every character we come in contact with, right? Or at least the ones who make us openly weep at our desks. “If Jason Katims, Peter Berg, and those guys somehow come together and make that script and that story work,...

Michael B. Jordan On Fruitvale Station, Spider-Man’s Sexuality, And Dancing With Zac Efron
Fans of Michael B. Jordan have watched him grow from teenage drug dealer (on The Wire) to leading man, receiving recent festival praise for his work in Fruitvale Station. In the film Jordan plays 22-year-old Oscar Grant III, who was shot and killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2009. Grant’s death resulted in major riots in the Bay Area, but Jordan and first time writer-director Ryan Coogler don’t try to villanize the institution or point the finger. Instead, what you get is a rich, layered depiction of a life that’s no more.

It’s no secret Jordan’s body of work predominantly consists of dramatic roles (tearjerkers, even) and Fruitvale Station is no exception. VH1 spoke with Mbj about what it’s like to be No. 1 on the call sheet, being a self-described “old soul,” and, of course,...

Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station (2013)
Michael Jordan Is Finally Famous
Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station (2013)
Cannes, France — Before "Fruitvale Station," Michael B. Jordan was glimpsed sporadically in supporting roles on TV shows like "The Wire" and "Friday Night Lights," and in films like "Chronicle" and "Red Tails."

That changes emphatically with "Fruitvale Station," a Sundance hit that premiered Thursday night at the Cannes Film Festival. In the film, he plays Oscar Grant, the 22-year-old victim of the infamous 2009 police shooting on the Oakland, Calif., transit system.

To humanize Grant, first-time filmmaker Ryan Coogler fashioned the movie around his last day: Jordan hardly leaves the frame.

"When I first saw it, I was like, `Man, can we cut to something else? I'm tired of looking at myself right now,'" Jordan said in an interview by the beach off the Croisette. "That's when it really sunk in that this is sink or swim. Sink or swim. Hope I'm swimming."

Michael B. Jordan Not Sure If The Friday Night Lights Movie Will Really Happen
When you love a TV show, you know that eventually it.s got to come to an end. So, let.s say that day comes and the creators wrap it up rather neatly. Yes, it.s nice to end on a high note, but it.s impossible not to want more-- and that's usually in the form of a movie that the creators themselves hope will happen. That's the situation surrounding plenty of shows, not least among them Friday Night Lights While chatting Chronicle with the actor who plays Vince Howard, Michael B. Jordon, he discussed whether or not the new Friday Night Lights movie should happen at all. .I don.t know. It.s rough. I think I.m playing devil.s advocate; it can go both sides of the fence.. Next Factor Q&A: 'Chronicle' Star Michael B. Jordan
Remember that awesome kid on "The Wire?" Or maybe you remember him as Vince Howard on "Friday Night Lights?" He was also that sweet guy who dated Haddie on "Parenthood."

Now Michael B. Jordan is taking all those memorable, sweet qualities from the television to the big screen – it's about time! – in the new sci-fi flick, "Chronicle."

The movie takes a frighteningly realistic look at what would happen if a trio of high school boys from different ends of the social spectrum were suddenly masters of telekinesis. The trick to keeping the story "grounded in real life," Jordan tells NextMovie, was the level of collaboration director Josh Trank encouraged between him and the cast.

"We were constantly talking about what a high school boy would really do if he could move things with his mind," he explained, adding that the scene where his character, Steve, has a leaf blower move...

Eli Manning
Kris LoPresto: Friday Night Lights Recast as the New York Giants
Eli Manning
At first glance the New York Football Giants share very little with the fictional team in Dillon, Texas. However, after rewatching the first season this past week, it dawned on me that this year's Giants team is shockingly similar to the Dillon Panthers/Lions. Allow me to recast Friday Night Lights with the players on the Giants:

Eli Manning as Matt Saracen

The goofy facial expressions, the "aw shucks" expressions, the easy-going personality, Matt Saracen is Eli Manning! Eli Manning is Matt Saracen! Both have led their team to a championship when everyone has counted them out. Both have married their school sweethearts. Eli met Abbey at Ole Miss while Matt met Julie Taylor at Dillon High. In a perfect world Eli would have married Coach Coughlin's daughter, but we'll deal with that later.

Tom Coughlin as Coach Taylor

If there's ever been a coach who has been fired in...

'Chronicle' Exclusive Clip: Wearing Black Today
If you, like me, have been thirsting for more "Friday Night Lights" since it went off the air, you might want to give "Chronicle" a look. Michael B. Jordan, who played quarterback Vince Howard for two seasons of the football drama, is one of the three leads of director Josh Trank's superhero found-footage movie, and it looks like he hasn't changed too much since his days at East Dillon... aside from the new super powers, of course.

In this exclusive "Chronicle" clip, Jordan and his buddies research the new powers they've mysteriously started to develop since their incredible discovery... specifically, telekinesis, the ability to move objects with the mind. The trio decides to test the new ability out in a way that is very, very high school. Check it out in the clip above and let us know what you think in the comments and on Twitter!

Friday Night Lights Blind in House
Friday Night Lights Blind in House

It amuses me greatly when an actor gets in trouble for dropping information they shouldn’t have on a social networking site. In this case it was Michael B. Jordan spilling the beans on his upcoming guest role on Fox’s House. Thankfully, the situation didn’t seem to cause too much trouble, as it appeared to have been a simple mistake on Jordan’s part. I would be shocked if Fox reacted viciously over the situation. The part isn’t even that amazing.

Jordan posted on his Twitter account early Wednesday that he would appear in the 14th episode of House’s eighth season as a blind patient. Later in the day, the tweet was removed and Jordan instead posted “”My bad @foxbroadcasting. “Now I know never to tweet before the studio approves. hahha #socialnetworkisinsane.” Yes Jordan. Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, and Alex Russell in Chronicle (2012)
'Chronicle' First Look: There's Something Behind You
Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, and Alex Russell in Chronicle (2012)
As a former one, I can personally tell you that the worst kind of person to give super powers to is a high school boy. No matter how noble they may seem, things are always going to get ugly. In "Chronicle," three high school buddies are lucky enough to earn special abilities after they make a mysterious discovery. And not that you need to be told, raging hormones and super powers don't mix well.

You might recognize the guy in the middle of this first look at a new "Chronicle" photo as Michael B. Jordan, from "The Wire" and the last two seasons of "Friday Night Lights." He plays one of the gifted teens, so you might as well imagine that Vince Howard went on to score some sweet super powers after "Fnl" ended. Dane DeHaan and Alex Russell make up the rest of the trio.

The story of "Chronicle...

So it is now time to embark on the final chapter in my mindless quest to compare Friday Night Lights plot lines to bowl games.

If you missed my first two posts in the series, you can read them here and here.

Before I jump into the comparisons, we need to get in the mood to discuss Friday Night Lights. That is, sappy, reflective and on the verge of tears.

So here you go:

The Rose Bowl Game Presented By Vizio, January 2nd, 5:00 Pm, Espn

Oregon vs. Wisconsin

By all indications, this should be one of the best games of the entire bowl season, if only because the Friday Night Lights tie-ins are just off the charts. Wisconsin has a tough, explosive offense that's led by an extremely talented dual-threat quarterback named Russell Wilson who transferred into the school this season from out of state. Hmmm..."an extremely talented...

Dan Treadway: Breaking Down Every Bowl Game Based on Plot Lines From Friday Night Lights: Week 2
Last week I decided to commence the unenviable and mostly nonsensical task of comparing all 35 college football bowl games to various plot lines and aspects of the now defunct but always glorious not-so-hit NBC show Friday Night Lights.

If you missed my first week of comparisons -- and judging by the analytics, you probably did -- you can catch up by reading it here.

For everyone else, I'm back for another attempt at TV-to-sports metaphor glory, and will be breaking down this week's slate of bowl games in terms of Friday Night Lights plot lines below.

Wait, let's get a little mood music going first:

Ology Asks Michael B. Jordan: Are You Coming Back To 'Parenthood?'
Michael B. Jordan is someone's favorite somewhere. He's the favorite Alex on Parenthood for me and is known to others with his role as Vince Howard on the unforgettable Friday Night Lights. He's so fantastic that when a rumor was going around that he was going to be going to the 2011 New York Comic Con, myself and Managing Editor Sharon Tharp immediately made plans to go.

Alright, the Parenthood news will happen. Just rewinding to see how we got there.

It was the night before the Saturday panel and it was cutting close to the early a.m. hours. His new film Red Tails was just one of many to be discussed during the four day convention but who knew if he actually would be attending. You never know with these events. Almost midnight, time to check his Twitter. "Heading to Comic Con NY! Come check out a sneak peek...

Just how badass is Bones‘ big new bad? Have all of Kalinda’s mysteries been solved? Is Will Schuester done ill-preparing his Glee club for competitions? Read on for those answers, plus teases from some of TV’s other hot shows.

Bones | As we all know, Booth this season will be vexed by a new recurring villain, before the Fox series breaks for Emily Deschanel’s maternity leave. The foe has previously been summed up as a “tech-savvy” adversary, but now I’ve got new, juicy details. Pelant, as he is called, fancies himself a “hacktivist,” and is currently under...

‘Friday Night Lights,’ Season 5, Series Finale: ‘Always’: TV Recap
Kyle Chandler
NBC Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor, Michael B. Jordan as Vince Howard in “Always”

We’re at the end of “Friday Night Lights,” both the series and the season. But while the East Dillon Lions focus on the state championships, all the individual players are looking forward to life beyond football and possibly, away from Texas. It’s all change, all around.

It’s a bittersweet ending for the show and viewers. This week, Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler were nominated for Emmys,...

‘Friday Night Lights’ Star Michael B. Jordan Gives Five Tips on Throwing a Football
NBC Michael B. Jordan as Vince Howard on “Friday Night Lights”

Growing up in Newark, New Jersey, Michael B. Jordan played basketball and baseball and ran track and field. Prior to being cast in the high school drama “Friday Night Lights,” Jordan, who plays hotshot quarterback Vince Howard for the East Dillion Lions, had only thrown a football a half dozen times in his life. As the series comes to a close on NBC and gears up to be reborn on Espn Classics,...

Friday Night Lights Exclusive: Michael B. Jordan on Playing Vince, Saying Goodbye
We know one thing to expect on the Friday Night Lights series finale, which airs in a few days: tears. Many, many tears. What else can fans look forward to?

I posed that question to Michael B. Jordan this week.

"Old faces return," the actor behind Vince Howard said. "There are final goodbyes and a few hellos. It does a really good job of wrapping up storylines and giving a sense of closure, while also leaving viewers wanting more."

Jordan, of course, didn't even enter the Dillon picture until three seasons in. He said he was nervous about joining such a "well-oiled machine," but he met Brad Leland (Buddy Garrity) in a Mexican restaurant one day and was quickly assured the Fnl experience would unlike any other in his career.

Leland was right.

"The first scene I shot was incredible," Jordan said. "It' amazing, the amount of freedom we have.

Friday Night Lights Review: "Gut Check"
Things are falling apart for the residents of Dillon, Texas. In "Gut Check" everyone had some sort of assessment or evaluation to make.

Kicking things off were the Lions and their locker room fight after their first loss in an undefeated season. Even Slammin' Sammy Meade lamented that the team was in disarray and he'd never seen the stands clear out faster. The knife was pushed in further when the assistant coach told Eric that Vince lost his team. It's true, he has and he doesn't care about fixing it.

What will it take to deflate the ego of the great Vince Howard? Well it's alienated his team, pissed off his coach, gotten his girlfriend to dump him, and gotten him benched. All Vince had to do to avoid getting benched was be there for his teammate and teach him plays, but even that was too much for Prince Vince.

Jackie Robinson in The Jackie Robinson Story (1950)
Who has the game and the grit to play Jackie Robinson?
Jackie Robinson in The Jackie Robinson Story (1950)
Think Will Smith as Muhammad Ali. Think Denzel Washington as Malcolm X. That’s the burden (and the opportunity) that will be placed on the shoulders of the actor who eventually takes the field as Jackie Robinson. Legendary Pictures and former Disney exec Dick Cook announced today that they’ve made a deal with the Robinson estate and are finally positioned to bring the story of modern baseball’s first African-American player to the screen after years of attempted projects from Spike Lee, Ken Burns, and Robert Redford, who is not involved with this most recent incarnation.

Brian Helgeland is writing and directing,...

Welcome back to the best game on TV, otherwise known as “Friday Night Lights.” It’s the last season for Tami and Coach Eric Taylor, and many of our regulars from past years are gone–graduated, moved to Chicago or in jail. [TV] Friday Night Lights: The Fifth and Final Season
Friday Night Lights never got the treatment or the respect that it deserved. True, the critics adored it, and the audience for the program, while not the biggest, was passionate enough to keep it on the air even as it got shuffled from one time slot to another on NBC before finally finding a rather out-of-the-way home on DirecTV’s The 101 Network. However, even that wasn’t enough to keep it going for the long haul, which is why this week the fifth and final season of the show has been recently released on DVD, officially ending the run of the program.

And what a good run it was. Friday Night Lights was adapted for television from the movie of the same name, which was adapted from the book (also conveniently of the same name) by H.G. Bissinger. While the book was nonfiction and took place in Odessa, Texas, and...

'Friday Night Lights': Michael B. Jordan shares his favorite scene
Michael B. Jordan hit the ground running as "Friday Night Lights'" Vince Howard two seasons ago, filling the quarterback-shaped hole in our hearts left by the graduated Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford).

But this last season saw his character endure a downward spiral of bad decisions, testing our affections for him in the process.

"I heard whispers of it before the beginning of Season 5," Jordan tells Zap2it. "'You're going to become the number one quarterback and everything's going to be going great,' they said. I should have known what they meant I was going to get a big head, I was going to start to screw myself and everything was going to go to shambles. I was a little nervous about it, but everything can't be good all the time."

That's one of the reason's why Jordan loved his job on "Fnl." And while reminiscing about his time on the show,...

Friday Night Lights Comes to an End: The Cast on Series-Saving Fans, Graduation, Panther Hate
In the second part of our farewell to Friday Night Lights, producers and cast talk about the show's controversial storylines (murder! abortion!), the show-saving fan campaigns, sending the Taylors to East Dillon and (unbelievably!) hating on the Panthers.

Is "Friday Night Lights" About to Give Us a Gay Football Player?
East Dillon Lions wide receiver Luke Cafferty (Matt Lauria) welcomes

Hastings Ruckle (Grey Damon) to the team.

Count me as one of those tiresome folks who's always going on about what an amazing television show Friday Night Lights is. The little drama about the coach and players of a small town Texas high school football team feels almost like a documentary, with its intimate, hand-held camerawork and seemingly improvised scenes. And you wouldn't think it would be so riveting given the subject matter (High school football? Really?), but it is indeed riveting.

Anyway, if you've never seen it I recommend renting the first season on DVD – watch a couple episodes and you'll be hooked.

The main problem with Friday Night Lights has never been quality, but rather it's sort of hard for audiences to find the damn thing. Right now Season 5 is airing exclusively on Direct TV Channel 101. Just like last year,...
