Sandy-haired Welsh actor who served in the RAF during World War II and hit pay dirt and stardom with his first two
British films, Le Lagon bleu (1949) with Jean Simmons,
and De la coupe aux lèvres (1949) with Sir Alec Guinness, maintaining his career with lesser distinction in bawdy comedies and melodramas. His characters were authority figures, often military in war movies like Commando sur le Yang Tsé (1957), Le Jour le plus long (1962) and Quand les aigles attaquent (1968) (the latter with Richard Burton).
