Deep in the jungle of Isla Nublar, game warden Robert Muldoon instructs a group of park employees on how to handle the transfer of a deadly Velociraptor. As he grips his shotgun, Muldoon shouts orders like “Pushing team, move in there,” and “Loading team, step away,” while warning “I want tasers on full charge!” But when the gatekeeper goes to open the container to put the raptor in its cage, the dinosaur rams the back of the container, moving it backwards and causing the gatekeeper to fall. Muldoon tries to save the gatekeeper, but fails. The man is devoured by the ferocious creature.
After six movies — including three good ones — the opening scene of the first Jurassic Park remains one of the most gruesome in the franchise. But to assure audiences that death by dino can be fun, too, director Steven Spielberg made the very next death in the first movie far more lighthearted.

Universal Pictures has officially set its new dinosaur adventure, Jurassic World: Rebirth, for a 2 July 2025 North-American release, with a London premiere on 17 June. The standalone sequel stars Scarlett Johansson as covert-ops specialist Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey as palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis, alongside Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend.
Johansson told Entertainment Weekly she was drawn to a role she could “shape from the ground up” after years in ensemble franchises. Bailey, meanwhile, said in GQ that he hopes the film will “do every field palaeontologist proud.”
Director Gareth Edwards admits he opened David Koepp’s script “wanting to hate it” but found “an opportunity of a lifetime” that could be completed within a single year. Steven Spielberg remains executive producer, having lured Koepp back and revived a long-shelved river-raft sequence from Michael Crichton’s original novel.

Universal Pictures surprised us back in January when they announced that not only was a new entry in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise in the works, but the screenplay was already finished and the project was aiming for a 2025 theatrical release. July 2, 2025, to be exact. This new movie is called Jurassic World Rebirth, and it was assembled in a mad scramble so it can stay on track to reach theatres next July. Details have been kept under wraps so far, but Universal just revealed some plot and character information the other day, so now it’s time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About Jurassic World Rebirth:
Plot
One of the most interesting things about this new Jurassic movie is the fact that it boasts a script written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, returning to the franchise for the first time...

Burt Reynolds achieved feature-film stardom and a large measure of credibility with his powerful dramatic performance in the 1972 thriller film Deliverance. Reynolds’ charm and sex appeal were effectively showcased throughout the rest of the decade in films like Hooper, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, and Starting Over, which pleased audiences and critics alike while establishing Reynolds as an immensely likable star who was equally adept at action and comedy.
However, in the early 1980s, the good-old-boy image that led Reynolds to be voted Hollywood’s top box-office draw for a record five consecutive years between 1978 and 1982 reached a point of diminishing returns. His unsuccessful pairing with Clint Eastwood in the 1984 action film City Heat marked a precipice in his career from which he never regained his former star power. In the late 1980s, Reynolds made an ignominious return to television, where his career began in the early 1960s.

With the launch of Jurassic Park, and its numerous sequels, the 1990s was a great time to be alive for paleontology nerds. The Steven Spielberg franchise, based on the books of Michael Crichton, helped spark new interest in the discipline. Funny enough, the most clever references probably went over the average viewer's head in the 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Spielberg's in-joke satirizing the showdown between the two leading American paleontologists. If you thought the director didn't take science seriously just because this is a monster movie, think again.
When Spielberg made Jurassic Park movies, he pulled out all the stops, enlisting the best and most respected minds in the field to depict a credible recreation of the extinct beasts. One problem. Not even the leading figures could agree on what the star of the movie--the Tyrannosaurus Rex--should eat, how he should move, or his physiology. Hidden...

Boogie Nights takes place in the world of adult entertainment. Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 classic stars Mark Wahlberg as Dirk Diggler, a California native who became a well-known adult film actor in the San Fernando Valley during the '70s. Recognizable actors portray most characters, but several real-life adult film stars make cameos in small roles. Before Boogie Nights, Mark Wahlberg had already established an impressive resume in the entertainment industry, but this movie made him a star.
Boogie Nights transformed Wahlberg into a mainstream movie star, thanks in large part to his tragicomic lead performance and a climactic scene that literally exposes the film's lead character, Dirk Diggler. However, what many P.T. Anderson fans remember is that this film is full of character actors who would go on to appear in several of the director's movies over the next two decades, some in lead roles and others always working as brilliant supporting actors.

The Boogie Nights ending explained what happened to the career of fictional adult film star Dirk Diggler. The second directorial feature by Paul Thomas Anderson, who has since cemented his place as one of the finest filmmakers working today, the story begins in 1977, introducing Dirk as a high school dropout who runs away from home to join adult filmmaker Jack Horner and his ragtag group crew, including experienced porn actors Amber Waves, “Rollergirl,” Reed Rothchild, and Buck Swope (Don Cheadle).
By the film’s ending, the ensemble has struggled to navigate a dizzying world of amoral excess, including wealth, drug addiction, and prostitution. Dirk’s stardom has faded, leaving him in a dire situation. For all its provocative hedonism, Dirk’s tragic story comes full circle, while only a few of his friends succeed in bettering their lives. At its core, Anderson's Boogie Nights is a story of a...

Paul Thomas Anderson was 26 years old when he, in the words of Ebby Calvin Laloosh, announced his presence with authority. "Boogie Nights" was as familiar as it was revolutionary. Any kid who'd received an unofficial film school degree via their local movie theaters, video stores, and whatever pay cable channels to which their parents subscribed were fluent in Anderson's heightened cinematic language. We knew every reference, every lifted technique, and were certain that this brilliantly bratty mash note to the moving image would change the medium forever. A whole generation of young filmmakers suddenly had license to tell stories in their heavily referential yet deeply personal manner. For better or worse, we saw the world through the lens of a camera and/or the flickering light of a movie theater projector. We lived, we loved, we got our hearts broken and our asses kicked, and we were determined to...

Paul Thomas Anderson ranks among the most revered auteur filmmakers of the past 30 years. Whether telling contemporary stories in Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love or period-set dramas like The Master, There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, and more, few filmmakers can transport viewers to a specific time and place, like Anderson. The rich writing, intricate costumes and art direction, fluid camerawork, and outstanding performances under PTA's direction often evoke a historical epoch more vividly than others.
PTA has written and directed three features set in the 1970s thus far, each encapsulating a decade marked by great change and upheaval. While all three are highly recommended, Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice are available on Max and deserve extra praise for how PTA elicits the aesthetic of the 1970s. Perhaps most impressive, whether adapting a novel or writing an original screenplay, Anderson appears most comfortable telling cinematic stories set in the past.

Terra Nova was poised to be a potential hit but fell short due to poor writing and lackluster characters. Despite a shaky start, the series showed promise by the 13th episode with improved plot twists. A remake with modern streaming platforms could bring Terra Nova back with better CGI, tighter writing, and shorter seasons.

Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 Oscar darling "Boogie Nights" took place from 1977 through 1984, when the fun-loving, sexed-up cocaine-and-porn party of the 1970s rapidly withered into the selfish, burned-out, uptight, moralistic Reagan era. Anderson showed a great deal of respect for the hard work and even artistry that went into shooting adult featured on 35mm film, but he was careful to show that there were always cracks in the system, little fissures where misery and angst were leaking in.
The central symbol of the encroaching misery of "Boogie Nights" came in the form of "Little Bill" Thompson (William H. Macy), the assistant director to celebrated porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds). Little Bill was always present at Horner's wild porn parties, where most everyone was having a wonderful time. He was unhappy, however, because his wife consistently had sex with younger men, often openly in front of dozens of others. Whenever Little Bill confronted his wife,...

As news about Jurassic World 4 continues to captivate audiences, leaving them eagerly anticipating what lies ahead, attention is drawn to a list of characters that need to return for the next installment. With reports indicating that none of the original cast members are involved and previous stars like DeWanda Wise skeptical about a reunion for the fourth film, it highlights a vital missing element from the upcoming project. The dinosaurs may have been the star attractions, but the human characters helped to make the Jurassic Park series truly iconic. While characters like Dr. Alan Grant and Claire Dearing were given their happily-ever-afters, there are plenty of unresolved plot threads, stories untold, and a legacy to uphold over three decades later.

Being a movie star is both a blessing and a curse. The blessings are fairly obvious, but, like all things that are too good to be true, they bring with them the seeds for the curse that follows, which is that movie stardom can set actors up for that much greater a fall should they start to slip off their pedestal. Some instances of actors taking a hard fall are deserved when it's to do with their offscreen behavior, yet in instances where it's mostly to do with the projects they're involved with being subpar, it's hard not to feel sorry for them.
Take Burt Reynolds, for instance. By the end of the 1970s he was among the most well-known and highest-paid actors working, and as the 1980s rolled on he continued to work with other name stars and solid filmmakers like Dolly Parton, Don Siegel, Blake Edwards, his buddy Hal Needham,...

Burt Reynolds passed away five years ago, yet the legend of the actor, sex symbol, and famous mustache-wearer continues to grow even now. The most recent Reynolds anecdote to circulate comes courtesy of "Boogie Nights," where the "Smokey and the Bandit" star infamously clashed with a then 27-year-old Paul Thomas Anderson.
Stories of Reynolds' displeasure with the filming experience on the 1997 porn-centric comedic drama are widely known by now, and The Washington Post even reported once that he fired his agent after doing the film. In an interview with GQ in 2015, Reynolds admitted that he'd be hesitant to work with Anderson -- who earned a Best Writing Oscar nomination for "Boogie Nights," and 10 additional nominations since -- again. As Reynolds put it, "Personality-wise, we didn't fit." At the time, the actor didn't mince words, saying that during the "Boogie Nights" shoot he found Anderson "young and full of himself" and...

Burt Reynolds didn't appreciate Mark Wahlberg laughing at him during their characters' first meeting in Boogie Nights. Wahlberg was not only surprised by Reynolds' Irish accent, which made him bust out laughing, but also the veteran actor's reluctance to embrace the movie's potential. Reynolds' performance as pornographic filmmaker Jack Horner earned the actor the only Oscar nomination of his illustrious career.

Earlier this week, we caught word that Universal Pictures is moving forward with a new entry in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise – which is no surprise, since the Jurassics and Fast & Furious are the studio’s two big moneymakers. What’s interesting about this new sequel is the fact that the screenplay is being written by David Koepp, who previously wrote the original Jurassic Park and its follow-up The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Now paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Steve Brusatte has taken to social media to confirm that the project is moving forward – and he knows, because it’s so far along that he has already signed on to be the dinosaur expert consultant on it. That’s a job Brusatte also had on the previous movie, Jurassic World Dominion, where he was consultant alongside paleontologist Jack Horner, who has been a consultant on all six Jurassic movies to date.

Warren Beatty was almost cast in the role of Jack Horner in Boogie Nights, but a miscommunication led him to express interest in playing the 18-year-old Dirk Diggler instead. Burt Reynolds, despite hating the experience of making the film, delivered a powerful and empathetic performance as Jack Horner, bringing a softness to the character that distinguishes him from the stereotypical adult filmmaker. Boogie Nights is considered one of Burt Reynolds's best films and earned him an Oscar nomination, despite his personal dislike for the project and continuous arguments with director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Those in the mood for family fun should check out “They Cloned Tyrone,” “The Out-Laws” and “Happiness for Beginners.” “Tyrone,” starring John Boyega and Jamie Foxx promises thrilling scenes and an overall suspenseful setting. “The Out-Laws,” starring Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin, Pierce Brosnan and Poorna Jagannathan, combines action, danger and raunchy humor. “Happiness for Beginners” was adapted from comfort book queen Katherine Center, author of the novel of the same name, and stars Ellie Kemper and Luke Grimes.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish has been praised for its innovative animation, intriguing plot, and star-studded voice cast, but its soundtrack should not be overlooked. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish came over a decade after the first film, a spinoff of the Shrek films, and featured a score by Heitor Pereira, who is best known for his work as the composer of the Despicable Me franchise, replacing Henry Jackman who did the first movie’s score in 2011. The Puss In Boots: The Last Wish soundtrack also features numerous Spanish songs that set the scene for the grounded fairytale world of the film.
The character of Puss in Boots was first introduced by Dreamworks in Shrek 2, though it would take him seven years to get his own spinoff film and another 12 for its sequel to finally be released. In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Puss is forced...

The Shrek spinoff series Puss in Boots has successfully expanded with the sequel film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and audiences are hoping that the series will continue with the latest Puss in Boots 3 news. Antonio Banderas' adorable sword-wielding cat Puss in Boots was first introduced as a minor antagonist in Shrek 2, quickly becoming an ally to Shrek and Donkey, and he immediately stole viewers' hearts. The Shrek character was so beloved that he received an eponymous spinoff film in 2011, which received generally favorable reviews (via Rotten Tomatoes) and proved to be a lucrative endeavor as the sixth installment to the Shrek franchise.

Several actors have played characters who, if put in a room together, would likely hate each other. Versatility is one of the best tools an actor can have, allowing them to blend into and embody whatever role they're given. Some famous actors like Sir John Hurt and David Tennant are known for their chameleon-like acting skills, so much so that their range of characters can seem hilarious when placed next to each other. Some of their characters could simply never get along.
Twitter user Kevstermania recently started a thread about this very idea, placing Spider-Ham from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Jack Horner from Puss In Boots: The Last Wish next to one another. Both Spider-Ham and Jack Horner are voiced by actor John Mulaney and this example displays perfectly the concept of one actor playing diametrically opposed characters who would frustrate each other.

The sixth installment of the Shrek movie franchise was widely praised by critics as one of its best, so it’s worth finding out where to watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The Puss in Boots sequel sees the titular swashbuckling cat in a race against time to beat “Big” Jack Horner and Goldilocks and the Three Bears Crime Family to the mythical Last Wish to restore the first eight of his nine lives. With a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish received near-universal acclaim from critics. It was received just as warmly by audiences, grossing more than $480 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo).

Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll when he learns that he has burnt through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.
The first Puss in Boots movie is one that I deeply enjoyed, which is something that I’m in the vast minority of. The decade-spanning Shrek franchise is quite possibly my favourite kids/family franchise of all time. Each movie in the series (except for the colossally disappointing Shrek the Third) holds a place near and dear to my heart.
So many kid’s movies get a bad reputation for being, well, only for kids. But, the Shrek movies prove that animated movies can be hugely enjoyable for adults too.

John Mulaney’s latest standup special will premiere next month on Netflix. John Mulaney: Baby J debuts globally April 25 on the streamer.
Baby J is Mulaney’s third Netflix stand-up special following The Comeback Kid (2015) and Kid Gorgeous (2018). His variety special John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch premiered on Netflix in 2019.
The show, directed by Alex Timbers with music by Talking Heads’ David Byrne, was shot in Boston’s Symphony Hall in February 2023.
Baby J is Mulaney’s first Netflix special since leaving rehab in 2021. The Emmy-winning comedian, writer and actor addressed the issue on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2021. “Do you know how bad of a drug problem you have to have that when you open a door and see people gathered, your first thought is, ‘This is an intervention about my drug problem. There’s no other reason people would be behind the door,’” he told Meyers.

For better or worse, 2022 has been the year of Florence Pugh.
“Don’t Worry Darling” reached a level of pop culture relevance that most arthouse films can only dream of, with film festival attendees and celebrity gossip addicts hanging on every detail of the rumored feud between Pugh and her director and co-star Olivia Wilde. But while the film’s reviews were mixed, nobody denied that Pugh gave a phenomenal performance in the lead role. Captivating industry observers while having the acting chops to justify the attention is the stuff that movie stars are made of.
Pugh won’t be leaving the limelight any time soon, as her upcoming film slate leaves her well positioned to capitalize on her current momentum. She’s currently working with directors ranging from Christopher Nolan to Denis Villeneuve, and will be seen everywhere from indie dramas to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In good news for kids and bad news for parents who don’t want to hear the same movie 50,000 times, Peacock announced Friday that “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” will arrive on the streaming service next week.
The animated family adventure comedy is the first film in the Shrek franchise to hit theaters since the first “Puss in Boots” in 2011, though DreamWorks has produced a few streaming projects featuring Puss in Boots and other characters from the franchise in the interim. “The Last Wish” was as successful as DreamWorks could have wished for, grossing over $444 million worldwide at the box office since it was released in December and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

We have a very eclectic mix of Blu-rays for you in this latest Blu-ray column. In fact, I can't remember a time when I've rounded up such an odd assortment of films. Not only do we have the new 4K release of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," but we also have the animated "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," the beautiful drama "The Remains of the Day," and Dario Argento's "Phenomena" just to cap things off. Like I said: eclectic.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K
Often copied, never duplicated, there will never be anything like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" again. Even after all these years, Tobe Hooper's tale of some travelers who run afoul of a cannibal family is terrifying. Why? Because it feels like something we shouldn't be seeing. The rough, raw style makes the entire movie feel like a documentary; like someone created a...

There’s surely no feeling in the world quite like winning an Oscar– that heady, unfiltered hit of professional validation that so many actors desperately crave.
But what of those who aren’t so lucky? For every Oscar winner, there must be a handful of losers, deserving or sometimes undeserving also-rans whose work was collectively deemed to have fallen short.
While actors are often skilled at disguising their disappointment – this is show business, after all – sometimes they let their real feelings slip through.
Whether it’s via side-eye glances that seem to throw shade on the winner, or simply muttering expletives, there have been many Oscar losses that prompted reactions which live on in infamy.
These aren’t the sorest losers, necessarily, but rather actors who didn’t adhere to the staid conventions of dignified loserdom.
Sometimes, as in the case of Holly Hunter, or Cate Blanchett, the reactions seem entirely lighthearted; others,...

Until this year, my only Puss in Boots-related wish was that I would never have to sit through another film from the Shrek franchise as long as I lived. I must confess, the unexpectedly entertaining Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has entirely changed my mind!
Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) squandered eight of his nine lives with a devil-may-care panache. He sang, danced and swashbuckled his way through a legendary series of adventures but his melodious pursuit of a giant may have seen the bell toll for the last time on those carefree days. Then a standoff with a foe who cannot be quipped into submission shakes the marmalade marauder to his core.
What happens when the charismatic poster puss of living for tomorrow suddenly fears he will not make it through today? Mortality is a mighty foe.

Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and other stars squander their talents voicing harmless but pointless sequel to 2010’s Puss in Boots
Somewhat mystifyingly, some top-secret algorithmic function in DreamWorks Animation’s audience-reaction data analysis software has decreed that yet another comeback is in order for the sort of Ok-ish and meh-plus character of Puss in Boots, smokily voiced by Antonio Banderas, originally seen in 2004 in Shrek 2, and then in the 2010 spinoff feature Puss in Boots. The numbers have come chuntering out of the side of some giant Ibm-style computer, the suits have frowningly inspected them, and another tranche of Puss in Boots content has been greenlit.
Once again, debonair outlaw Puss in Boots – a sort of cleaned-up southern European version of Jack Sparrow – is having sword-twirling adventures, again in the company of his paramour Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek); but now PiB must confront his own mortality, having used up eight of his nine lives.

DreamWorks and their villains would be a perfect fit for the world of Dungeons and Dragons. They've had dozens of villains grace theater screens, from the dulcet tones of the Fairy Godmother to the most recent sinister slashings of the bounty-hunting Wolf. The characters are larger than life, and it's for that reason that they're so beloved. They would make for a diverse and vicious bunch of characters to wreak havoc on the tabletop. DreamWorks tends to have a fondness for these over-the-top villains, and even the most stoic of them will end up bloodthirsty sooner or later, fitting the mood shifts of an average Dungeons and Dragons game.
All of the bizarre classes that any Dungeons and Dragons party is bound to have would fit right into the elaborate worlds of a DreamWorks movie. These classes are fun because they allow players to create unique characters and explore imaginative worlds,...

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a film that undeniably bursts with joy. The action choreography, the electrifying animation, and the titular character’s growth all flow organically and with a ton of energy. Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also excels in crafting a rich, thematically brilliant villain in The Wolf/Death with a fantastic vocal performance from Wagner Moura, chilling sound design (that whistle), and breathtaking animation. Remarkably, he isn’t the only fantastic antagonist in the film. “Big” Jack Horner — voiced by John Mulaney — is far less nuanced than the Wolf, but still entertaining. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes a simple nursery rhyme about a boy who sticks his thumb into a pie and pulls out a plum and creates a magnificent villain. Like everything in the film, “Big” Jack Horner throws so much evil at the wall...

Warning: Contains spoilers for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.Much has been said about there being three different Pinocchio movies in 2022, but surprisingly enough, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish can be seen as the secret fourth Pinocchio movie of 2022. The original Pinocchio story by Carlo Collodi is over 100 years old, and as such, it’s naturally been adapted dozens of different times. The 1940 Disney movie is undoubtedly the most famous, but it’s also been adapted into live-action shows, theatrical productions, and, of course, other animated movies.
2022 was another year of new Pinocchio content, and by sheer coincidence, there ended up being three new Pinocchio movies that year: the live-action remake of the Disney Pinocchio, the Tom Kenny and Pauly Shore voiced Pinocchio: A True Story, and Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. The fact that three different Pinocchio movies were released in 2022 ended up drawing a lot of attention from people,...

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the long-awaited revival of the Shrek franchise, but its villains retcon part of the original Shrek movies. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish sees the return of the titular character first introduced in Shrek 2 while also featuring cameos from other characters such as Gingy, Pinocchio, and even Shrek himself. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also features a villain present in the first Shrek. However, it's a different version.
