  • She became a member of the party forming the new government just a few hours before she was to become minister of culture.
  • She lost her right-hand thumb in a fishing-accident as a child.
  • Norwegian actress who in the 1990s became head of Norway's National Theatre, before entering the political arena as cultural minister of Norway (a member of the Norwegian Labour Party). After two years in government she was back on stage, starring in a critically appraised one-woman-show as author Sigrid Undset, the famous Nobel Prize-laureate.
  • Received a Knighthood, First Class of the Order of St. Olav (highest order in Norway).
