Biography

    • Jim began his professional acting career while an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina, performing in Summer Stock theater in North Carolina alongside Kyle MacLachlan at the Flatrock Playhouse. Jim then moved to California to receive his MFA from California Institute of the Arts. After graduating, Jim worked for several years in Regional Theater where he performed various Shakespeare roles including Petruchio in TAMING OF THE SHREW, as well as originating the role of Jerry in Mark Medoff's play STUMPS, the third play in Medoff's Steven Ryder series. While pursuing his film and TV career in Los Angeles he continued his theater work directing and acting in productions around Los Angeles. In 1994 he won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his direction of AVENUE A, starring Mark Ruffalo. Jim has had multiple recurring roles in TV both in sitcoms (BIG BANG THEORY, THE KING OF QUEENS, MIKE AND MOLLY) as well as dramatic series, working alongside Powers Booth in Season 6 of the FOX's 24, Kathy Bates in HARRY'S LAW and James Spader in BOSTON LEGAL. In film he has had the privilege to work with Kevin Bacon and Queen Latifah (BEAUTY SHOP), Isla Fisher (CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC) and Mark Wahlberg (FATHER STU). Jim played LA District Attorney Emmet Archer in the television series BOSCH LEGACY. Jim co-wrote and produced the award-winning independent film the CORNDOG MAN directed by Andrew Shea and starring Nobel Willingham. Other activities include serving on the National Board of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for 15 years serving as the National Chairperson of their National Playwriting Program. Jim serves as a Senior Lecturer in the theater department of Loyola Marymount University, where he has taught and directed plays for 24 years.
