Image
"What evil did you bring here?" Whatever it is, I don't want it in my apartment! Cranked Up has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror anthology feature titled Tenants, featuring "7 Floors of Terror!" This will be debuting on VOD at the end of this month in time for horror season. After waking up in an unfamiliar apartment complex, a woman desperately searches for her sister while being hunted by a shadowy figure. As she makes her way through the building, unspeakable horrors befall the tenants she interacts with. With segments directed by Jonathan Louis Lewis, Sean Mesler, Blake Reigle, and Buz Wallick. The anthology film stars Mary O'Neil, Christa Collins, Myles Cranford, Rib Hillis, Clarke Wolfe, Kathryne Isabelle Easton, and Douglas Vermeeren. The mysterious black smoke creepo in this looks pretty cool, but the rest of the segments seem hit or miss, which is the usual with these fun anthology tales.

Kill Shot – Review
Image
Rib Hillis and Rachel Cook, in Kill Shot. Courtesy of Well Go USA Entertainment

There have been forests full of “thrillers” in which one or more people go for a woodsy getaway only to find that they’re pursued by one or more bad guys, just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Kill Shot is another, and it’s nowhere near the top of that heap. It’s not even the best among several previous films bearing the same title.

Two ex-models, Rachel Cook (not Rachel Leigh Cook) and Rib (not a typo) Hillis star respectively as a woman who wants to hunt moose and spread her father’s ashes in the rough terrain of Montana as a tribute to him. Hillis plays her guide. She’s beautiful; he’s ruggedly handsome and his wife just dumped him for spending too much time in the boonies,...

‘Kill Shot’ Review
Image
Stars: Rib Hillis, Mara Ohara, Bobby Maximus, Rachel Cook | Written by Rib Hillis, Ari Novak | Directed by Ari Novak

As Kill Shot opens a young Afghan girl walks through a drug processing facility and is handed a briefcase full of cash by an old man. She then trudges through the snow in what feels like real-time until she comes to an armoured truck manned by a couple of heavily armed men in camo. They take the cash and drive off.

After it drives around for a bit the truck encounters a woman, Dina Diablo (Mara Ohara; The Hellenbacks 3), who pulls a flamethrower from under her burka. When the men inside jump out and start firing at her they’re ambushed by Maximus (UFC fighter Bobby Maximus) and his men who kill them, take the cash, and make plans to rendezvous in Canada. Among the footage we see under the credits,...

Rachel Cook & Rib Hillis in Montana Action Thriller 'Kill Shot' Trailer
Image
"We're being hunted." Well Go USA has dropped the trailer for an action film titled Kill Shot, formerly known as Hunted, from filmmaker Ari Novak. The plot of this sounds a lot like the plot of Cliffhanger, with a few extra "here's an elite soldier character" and "here's a nearly naked woman" tricks up its sleeves. Posing as hunters, a group of terrorists are in search of $100 million that was stolen and lost in a plane crash en route from Afghanistan. The story follows two people on a hunting trip, a former Navy Seal and his client, who stumbled upon the cash and try to figure out how to get away with some of it without being killed. Rib Hillis who co-wrote the script, stars with Rachel Cook, Bobby Maximus, Mara Ohara, Xian Mikol, and Mark Murphy. This looks hilariously bad, oh so bad, especially when this main blonde woman...

‘Swim’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Jennifer Field, Andy Lauer, Brett Hargrave, Daniel Grogan, Joey Lawrence, Addison Bowman, Rib Hillis | Written by Anthony C. Ferrante | Directed by Jared Cohn

It was bound to happen. Netflix started making and showing original movies, then Amazon, and then Tubi followed suit with Swim. But as Tubi is not a thing here in the UK (thanks Gdpr) we’ve instead had to wait almost two years for the film to hit Blighty. However, don’t get too excited. Given their budget and “free with commercials” format of its source, this isn’t The Irishman or The Tomorrow War. This shark in the house film was made by The Asylum and their frequent director Jared Cohn from a script by Anthony C. Ferrante… so don’t expect Jaws either!

The Samson family Lacey, her father Noah, and kids Charlotte (Brett Hargrave; Weedjies: Halloweed Night) and Tucker (Daniel Grogan) are renting a beach house.

Murderbot: Full Moon releases trailer for latest Jim Wynorski film
Image
Back in 1986, director Jim Wynorski brought us the cult classic Chopping Mall (watch it Here, check out our Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? episode on the film Here), which was about the robots that have been tasked with serving as the security guards in a shopping mall going on a killing spree. The original title for that movie was Killbots, and a while back it was announced that Wynorski was going to be directing a new movie called Killbots for Full Moon. It would have nothing to do with Chopping Mall, it was just going to be using that discarded original title. Well, the title plans changed along the way. The Wynorski / Full Moon project is now called Murderbot – and you can watch the trailer in the embed above!

Murderbot is scheduled to be released through the Full Moon Features streaming service on March 31st.

‘Psycho Storm Chaser’ Review
Image
Stars: Tara Erickson, Rib Hillis, Mary O’Neil, Ivan Djurovic, Clarke Wolfe, Ali Zahiri | Written by Jay Black | Directed by Buz Wallick

I was sold on Psycho Storm Chaser as soon as I read its synopsis. It reads: ‘An at-home care nurse must survive a category 3 hurricane as well as a storm chasing serial killer that uses storms to cover up his heinous crimes’. I was in luck too because the movie is nearly as dumb and ridiculous as that sounds.

That’s not to say I didn’t like it though. I know there are plenty of movie lovers that will read that synopsis and either decide they are not going to bother with the movie or they are watching it expecting to not enjoy it. I was hoping it would it least meet my relatively low expectations and have some fun with its own story.

Psycho Storm Chaser is...

Monster-Movie Mayhem: ‘Piranhaconda’ Review
Stars: Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Shandi Finnessey, Terri Ivens, Rib Hillis, Angie Savage, Chris De Christopher, Kurt Yaeger, Noah Blake | Written by J. Brad Wilke, Mike MacLean | Directed by Jim Wynorski

When a rogue scientist discovers an immense egg in the dark recesses of a rainforest he thinks hes stumbled across his fame and fortune. But little does he know that it belongs to a terrifying hybrid monster, known only as the Piranhaconda (a moniker only mentioned once in the Entire film and dismissed as a stupid name!). Soon the beast is on the loose, hunting for its unborn child, rampaging through the country and destroying everything in its path in a mass of CGI-enhanced gory-glory.

A killer-creature B-movie from the Roger Corman staple, Piranhaconda is yet another made for Syfy TV movie suprisingly this one comes from director Jim Wynorski, who is well-known in the horror community for successfully mixing T&A and horror.

Stars: Robert Carradine, Mario Ceara, Katie Savoy, Akari Endo, Tony Evangelista, Mario Arturo Hernández, Rib Hillis, Alan Nadal Piantini, Conan O’Brien | Written by Matt Yamashita | Directed by Kevin O’Neill

If you thought it was only studios like The Asylum who were cranking out giant sea creature flicks for Syfy you’d be completely wrong – Roger Corman and his New Horizon Pictures are still producing the kind of cheap and cheerful monster movies that Corman made his name with to this day. Only unlike The Asylum, Corman and co. don’t seem to want to keep to just giant monsters… Instead they’ve cross-bred their monsters as time has gone on – no longer are they satisfied with plain-old Supergator, their first giant creature flick; nope they’ve brought us the crazy combos of Dinoshark, Dinocroc (who took on Supergator in 2010), Piranhaconda; and their craziest giant killer creature combination, Sharktopus.

Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs movie review: dino crock

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

If you imagined that a new direct-to-dvd movie entitled Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs was a cheap pre-Jurassic World cash-in, congratulations: you have mental powers beyond those demonstrated by anyone onscreen or behind the scenes of this padded-out pile of cut-rate cinematic junk. The title is about as fact-based as the movie’s grasp of science, human relationships, digital effects, or storytelling. There’s only one cowboy, and he’s not much of a cowboy since that traumatic rodeo incident, and though he will get back up on that horse — literally — in order to battle some dinosaurs, this would more appropriately be called Girls in Tiny...

DVD Review: Piranhaconda
Piranhaconda

Stars: Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Shandi Finnessey, Terri Ivens, Rib Hillis, Angie Savage, Chris De Christopher, Kurt Yaeger, Noah Blake | Written by J. Brad Wilke, Mike MacLean | Directed by Jim Wynorski

When a rogue scientist discovers an immense egg in the dark recesses of a rainforest he thinks he’s stumbled across his fame and fortune.

A killer-creature B-movie from the Roger Corman staple, Piranhaconda is yet another made for Syfy TV movie – suprisingly this one comes from director Jim Wynorski, who is well-known in the horror community...

Sharktopus (2010)
Michael Madsen in 'Piranhaconda' - pictures
Sharktopus (2010)
Piranha not got enough twists and turns for you? Anaconda lacking the requisite bite? Well, why not have the best of both worlds? From Mike MacLean, the writer of Sharktopus (Jaws not tentacley enough... etc.), and with Hollywood exploitation legend Roger Corman behind it, comes Piranhaconda. Somehow the movie passed us by when it aired on Syfy in June, but all 82 glorious minutes are coming to DVD on January 7, 2013. The film is directed by Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall, Camel Spiders) and stars Quentin Tarantino's Mr Blonde, Michael Madsen, fresh from Celebrity Big Brother. Joining Madsen is Rachel Hunter (The Benchwarmers) and MacLean's Sharktopus veteran Shandi Finnessey. Rounding out the cast is Rib Hillis, who you might have seen on Two and a Half Men and CSI Miami. The plot (more)...

Plenty of Booty Awaits Those Who Can Survive the Terror of Piranhaconda
That was a pretty cheap joke, and for that I apologize. The marketing gurus working behind-the-scenes of director Jim Wynorski’s upcoming creature “Piranhaconda” know exactly who their audience is, and they’re not above catering directly to their low-brow tastes. It’s always nice when the people who made the movie are kind of in on the joke. After all, nobody in their right mind is taking something called “Piranhaconda” seriously, so why not have some fun with it? The film, which stars Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Rib Hillis, and Teri Ivens, is set to debut on SyFy this June. The poster in all its, um, glory resides below. If I had a bigger image to offer, I’d certainly slide it your way. Unfortunately, for the moment, this is all I’ve got. Sorry...

Dinocroc vs. Supergator (Review - New to video)
2010 - 87 mins. - Not Rated

D: Rob Robertson, Jim Wynorski

C: James C. Burns, John Callahan, Lisa Clapperton, David Carradine, Bryan Hanna, Rib Hillis, Brooks Kephart, Corey Landis

Two scientifically altered creatures eat up all the locals and vacationers on a small island before duking it out battle royale style for supremacy.

Let's talk about the intent behind a film like Dinocroc vs. Supergator. First off, it is not something to be token seriously or straight forward. It's the kind of entertainment that is supposed to recall all those cheesy monster movies that were produced back in the 50's. The acting is supposed to be campy. The situations are supposed to be exaggerated. The special effects are supposed to look cheap. There is supposed to be an inherent humor about how goofy the film is as a whole. And, of course, it's all supposed to be rather tacky and trashy.
