- Was a fully qualified doctor in England, who turned to comedy after becoming disillusioned with the NHS.
- Once stepped forward when a plane passenger called out "Is there a Doctor on Board?" When everybody recognised him as his comic persona, there was a ripple of laughter and cries of protest. So he sat down again, saying "Oh, well, I've probably forgotten it all by now, anyway.".
- In 1992 he won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
- Won two British Comedy Awards, 2006.
