His character Andy Broom in Arabesque (1984), was named by the prop department not by the writers. In his first episode as Deputy Andy Broom (Thicker Than Water) the script did not provide a name for the deputy's character. When actor Ron Masak who played Sheriff Mort Metzger realized this, he looked at the name tag Louis had been given by the prop department and called him by that name (Andy) to help establish this new Cabot Cove deputy.

Attended grade school with actor Pruitt Taylor Vince.

Played a werewolf on two different shows: Simon Ford on The Gates and JD on True Blood.

Nephew of Harold G. Herthum who played the doctor in Forrest Gump (1994). The two actors appear together in the film Favorite Son (1997), which Louis produced.
