- A native of Chicago, Henderson sang with the Ramsey Lewis Trio, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Quincy Jones, the Charlie Haden Quintet and many others. His 1963 album, Bill Henderson With the Oscar Peterson Trio, is considered a classic in the jazz vernacular.

- He made his show business debut as a singer and dancer at age 4. His father taught him the value of singing softly. He spent his teens and 20s bouncing between school, day jobs, and singing gigs. A stint in the Army gave him an opportunity to work with Vic Damone. In 1956, Henderson went to New York, where he soon became part of the jazz community.
