New Tomb for Hendrix
Late rock legend Jimi Hendrix is to have a new memorial opened for him in April this year - to accommodate the thousands of pilgrims paying tribute to him every year. The tomb will be domed, with granite walkways, multicolored marble and feature a bronze sculpture of the guitarist himself. The memorial will be situated in Greenwood Memorial Park And Cemetery in Renton, 10 miles south of his Seattle birthplace. Jimi's half-sister, Janie Hendrix, says of the previous grave site, "There were thousands of people visiting each year, but it was muddy and wasn't conducive to the fans playing homage. Our father wanted it done before he passed away last year." The axeman's remains have already been placed in the new memorial - along with those of his father Al Hendrix and Jimi's step-mother, Ayako "June" Hendrix. Hendrix, who died in 1970 in London, is still held in awe by music fans who recognize the huge influence he had on rock music.
