- Dee Anne Helsel was born in Altoona, PA and moved to Los Angeles in 1970 to start her professional career in acting. She is the author of How Acting Works: The Official Reference Book for The Mechanics of Believability originated by her mentor and coach, Lieux Dressler, of over 40 years.
