StudioCanal’s Red Production Company has secured the rights to Boy In The Striped Pyjamas author John Boyne’s latest novel The Echo Chamber, with Boyne set to adapt as a 10 x 30-minute series.
Red said the deal took place following a “highly competitive auction” for the book, which has already topped Irish bestseller lists after being published over the summer.
The Echo Chamber follows The Cleverley family, comprised of a TV interviewer dad, novelist mum and adult children, who live a privileged life but are just one Tweet away from disaster. A week may be a long time in politics, but five days is all it takes for the lives of the Cleverleys to be turned on their heads.

The story focuses on a young engaged man to begins to interact with an attractive woman on Facebook. But their the electronic relationship proves to be a deadly one as the woman begins to stalk her online lover.
Like Lionsgate’s own 2005 thriller “Hard Candy,” “Xoxo” explores misleading digital identities, as the film also makes use of streaming video and other social-media platforms. These online interactions will be made more cinematic by employing stylized visual sequences, though no director has been brought on board yet.

Chicago – Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-winning “Black Swan” was one of the most ambitious films of 2010, a piece of psychological drama that, despite an incredibly stupid recent backlash of the kind that always comes eventually with a project this highly-acclaimed, will absolutely stand the test of time. It doesn’t just reward repeat viewing as much as anything from 2010, it practically demands it. You can’t fully appreciate any of the accomplishments if you see them only once.
And I mean Any of them. I’ve seen “Black Swan” multiple times, more than any film from 2010, and I’m flabbergasted at how well it holds up. There’s always something new to admire, like a symphony performance in which you hear a different instrument every time. Of course, Natalie Portman’s spectacular work stands out the first time, as it should. Portman gives a physically and emotionally draining turn that earned her a well-deserved Oscar.

People say you don’t go to film school just for the education, that the connections are sometimes even more important. For Mark Heyman, that was definitely the case. Sure, he’s proven himself a skilled producer, a great development executive, and now screenwriter, but had he not been forced to hang around class late one day, he’d never have met the reigning national champ of filmmaking Darren Aronofsky. Yes, I do believe that the really good people out there will succeed in this business with or without the right partnerships, but Heyman’s serendipitous beginnings with Aronofsky cannot be ignored when it comes to discussing his career. It's that time of year again: The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has announced the nominations for its 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

Leading the charge is Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fi thriller “Inception” with 9 nominations. The full list of award nominations have been unleashed for The 37 Annual Saturn Awards. Inception rules the nomination list with nine, Let Me In and Tron: Legacy also took seven nominations each. As for TV The Walking Dead it ended up walking away with the most nominations with six, and Breaking Bad, Lost and Fringe got five noms each. This is an award ceremony all of us geeks can get behind.

"The King's Speech" is likely to dominate the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (February 27), but if zombies, aliens, vampires and dream hijackers are more your speed, just hang tight until June.
The Academy of Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Films have announced the nominations for the 37th Annual Saturn Awards, which honor excellence in all things gruesome, awesome and everything in between for both movies and television.
Christopher Nolan's "Inception" leads the pack in the film categories with nine nominations (one more than its outstanding Oscar nom total), including Best Science Fiction Film, Best Writing and Best Director for Nolan. I love Saturn Awards! Of course, if you’re fan of science fiction, fantasy and horror film, you love them too.
So, you’ll be glad to hear that Saturn Awards nominations for the 37th Annual Saturn Awards were announced this Wednesday by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror and that we already have a leader!

Full winners list is below for the Baftas 2011 arwards. The big winner of the night was 'The King's Speech' which took home both Best Film and Best British Film, as well as Best Actor for Colin Firth his second consecutive win following his performance in a 'A Single Man' last year and both Best Supporting awards.
Best Director went to David Fincher for 'The Social Network,' which also landed Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin's script and Best Editing, making it the runner-up with 'Inception' winning three prizes, for Best Sound, Best Production Design and Special Visual Effects.

As expected, Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" dominated the Orange British Film Awards winning seven BAFTAs including Best Film, Leading Actor for Colin Firth, Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush and Supporting Actress for Helena Bonham Carter.
Natalie Portman took home the Leading Actress trophy for "Black Swan." Early awards season favorite, "The Social Network" won three BAFTAs including Best Director for David Finchers, Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin, and Best Editing for Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter.
"Inception" also took home three trophies including Best Production Design, Sound, and Visual Effects.
Christopher Lee received the ighest accolade which the Academy can bestow, the Fellowship, while the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema was given to Jk Rowling and David Heyman for the "Harry Potter" films.

The 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards were handed out today and to very little surprise The King's Speech led the way with seven BAFTA Awards as it was also the most nominated film among all nominees with 14 total nominations.
Among its achievements it took home Best Picture, Outstanding British Film, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Original screenplay for David Seidler and Best Score for Alexandre Desplat. Where the surprises came were in the supporting wins for both Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter showing The Fighter apparently doesn't pack as much of a punch across the pond as it does here.
Also, for those of you trying to predict the Oscars and are wondering which direction to go with Best Director, David Fincher took home the award for The Social Network, one of three wins on the night for the film. Aaron Sorkin also won for Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing.

On February 13th at the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will be honouring Sir Christopher Lee, one of the horror genre's most beloved icons, with its Academy Fellowship. “It’s a very unexpected but very great honour to find myself in such distinguished company to receive the fellowship", said Lee of the award.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."

Finally, winners we can all be happy about! The 2011 Writers Guild Awards were held last night at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. The two key winners: Inception, written by Christopher Nolan, winner of Best Original Screenplay from the WGA; and The Social Network, written by Aaron Sorkin (seen above), winner of Best Adapted Screenplay (original nominees below). As for documentaries, Charles Ferguson's Inside Job took top prize. Last year, Up in the Air did not go on to win the Oscar even though it won a WGA, so it's hard to tell, but I would absolutely love to see Nolan take home an Oscar, too. Writers Guild of America (WGA) have revealed the winners of the awards for best original, adapted, and documentary screenplays. As previously reported, "The King's Speech," "Winter's Bone," "Another Year" and "Toy Story 3" were not eligible for the award, despite being nominated for Oscars. The big winner was Christopher Nolan for his work on "Inception," beating out "Black Swan" and "The Fighter." "This is one of things I'm most proud of," he said, noting that his script for "Memento" wasn't eligible for the WGA Awards nine years ago. Aaron Sorkin also won for "The Social Network" screenplay. "I wrote a good script but David Fincher made a great movie," he said. “Inception” has finally gotten some real love.
It’s been a bit puzzling as to why Christopher Nolan’s expertly structured and endlessly fascinating sci-fi tale hasn’t been getting more attention from industry award-givers. While it’s received kudos for its technical prowess, “Inception” has yet to be truly acknowledged for its significant achievements in directing, writing and acting.
Until now, as Nolan’s script was given the award for Best Original Screenplay by the Writers Guild of America at the WGA Awards. “Inception” emerged the winner against some extremely strong competition, including “The Kids Are All Right” and “The Fighter.”
Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin’s script for “The Social Network” took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay (no surprise there) and Charles Ferguson’s “Inside Job” won for Best Documentary Screenplay. Both films were winners at the recent Directors Guild Awards as well.

No big surprises here as the Writers Guild of America announced their winners tonight and Aaron Sorkin's script for The Social Network and Christopher Nolan's script for Inception took home top honors. Charles Ferguson's script for Inside Job was also awarded for Best Documentary Screenplay.

Last year, noticing that studios throughout Hollywood were posting the screenplays for their “Oscar movies” online for free, I compiled the download links for every screenplay I could find and posted them to this site. The article was a hit, many of the screenplays were downloaded, and things went quiet…until a few months ago, when the page started getting a lot of traffic again, no doubt thanks to the start of this year’s Oscar season.
The problem was, a lot of those studio sites from last year have been taken down, so if, say, you try to click the link to download the Avatar script, you get an ugly Not Found error. I won’t make that same mistake again: this year, I’ve downloaded all the new screenplays and stored them here, so the links will always work.

McLaughlin recently did a Q & A session at the Reeves Theatre in the University of Tampa, and talked about the process of writing Black Swan, future projects and alludes to snubbing of an Oscar nomination. John McLaughlin co-wrote Black Swan along with Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz and it was he who originally suggested the title. The project took ten years to get to screen and included attending numerous ballets with director Darren Aronofsky. Mark Heyman is set to write Age of Rage, a sophisticated sci-fi project set up at Fox Searchlight with Marc Webb attached to direct. Mason Novick worked with Webb on (500) Days of Summer and is set to co-produce Rage with Webb.
