Alan Cumming is returning to the role of Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday, more than two decades after his first and only appearance as the character in X2: X-Men United. The actor revealed that recent makeup tests have shown a significant reduction in preparation time, citing improvements in prosthetic techniques and application methods.
Cumming shared his thoughts during appearances on Today With Jenna and Friends and in conversation with Olivia Munn for Collider. “It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero,” he said. “I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before it was about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes.”
He explained that in his first portrayal of the character, the intricate blue tattoos were painted by hand. Now, those same details are applied as pre-formed decals. “They just stick onto my face,...

What a difference two decades make. Alan Cumming recently said during an interview on “Today With Jenna and Friends” that he’s already begun makeup tests for “Avengers: Doomsday.” He is reprising his “X2: X-Men United” role of Nightcrawler in the upcoming Marvel tentpole, alongside fellow “X-Men” co-stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer. Cumming said advancements in movie makeup have dramatically cut back the amount of time he’ll spend transforming into the blue-skinned and tattooed Nightcrawler.
“Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed,” Cumming said. “It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero. I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before it was about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes.”
“Before, all of the tattoos were done by hand,” he added.

Batter up, Darren Aronofsky is back with a fast-paced thriller that swings for the fences. Aronofsky took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas during Sony’s presentation to premiere the first look at the trailer for his latest film, “Caught Stealing.”
“Caught Stealing” sees the filmmaker harken back to his earlier work after a series of smaller, more downbeat offerings such as “Mother!” and “The Whale.” The ’90s-set, NYC crime story stars Austin Butler as a former baseball player who gets caught up in a treasure hunt that sees him pitted against cops, mobsters, and hitmen.
Aronofsky described the project as something that took him back to what it felt like making a movie in the ’90s when he was making “Pi,” but he made this project because it was “something different” and was “simply put, a lot of fun.”

Imagine being so talented that voicing gaming’s gruffest super-soldier is just your side gig. That’s David Hayter for you—the man who’s been living rent-free in gamers’ heads as Solid Snake while secretly moonlighting as Hollywood’s superhero whisperer.

But while you were busy sneaking around Shadow Moses Island, Hayter was quietly penning what some consider the greatest superhero movie ever made. And no, we’re not talking about some obscure indie flick that only “true cinema” snobs pretend to understand. We’re talking about a bona fide blockbuster that hit screens a full decade before Avengers: Endgame had us all ugly crying in theaters.

X-Men (2000) was somewhat criticized for casting the tall Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but the movie almost made a far more divisive change to Marvel’s most famous mutant. Wolverine has always been a cornerstone of the X-Men franchise, and Fox’s X-Men timeline was no different. Debuting in The Incredible Hulk #180 in 1974, the character quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his gruff demeanor and compelling backstory. When Fox made X-Men (2000), they faced pressure to make some unfavorable changes to certain characters, and Wolverine became a focal point for such discussions.
When X-Men premiered in 2000, it redefined superhero cinema, laying the groundwork for the modern comic book movie era. Among the film's standout decisions was casting the relatively unknown Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Despite his 6'2" stature – nearly a foot taller than the character in the comics – Jackman embodied Logan so well that fans quickly forgave the physical disparity. However,...

While Dwayne Johnson made his big screen premiere in Brendan Fraser's The Mummy Returns, he had a surprisingly limited amount of screentime considering he was the villain, and he was The Rock. As Mathayus of Akkad, he was also subjected to one of the most awkward bits of early CGI in film history. Nonetheless, audiences smelled what he was cooking and took to the actor's cinematic charisma, developed after years of wrestling, and he was very quickly thrust into leading man status the next year.
The Scorpion King top-billed a 30-year-old Dwayne Johnson as the titular character, whose story was explored in The Mummy Returns but is widely expanded upon in this prequel. This was long before Johnson's Hollywood status as the highest-paid actor from 2019 to 2021, and before other wrestlers and fighters turned Hollywood behemoths, like John Cena and Dave Bautista, further normalized the heavily muscled trend. Video game publisher Konami has recently been trying to regain some of their fans after years of poor business decisions. They lost fans over the infamous fallout with Hideo Kojima and the focus on gambling and mobile games. Now they will be remaking one of the most popular entries in the Metal Gear franchise Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
In preparation for the remake’s release and the 20th anniversary of the original on the PlayStation 2, a video presentation was posted. The video featured original Naked Snake actor David Hayter, along with two other actors-actress Lori Alan who played The Boss and actress Jodi Benson who was revealed to have voiced Snake’s love interest Eva.

In the case of a troubled TV show, few things are more powerful than a passionate (read: loud) fan base. Fandom fervor can often be the one thing standing between a series and outright cancellation, even if a renewal isn't immediate.
So it was for "Warrior Nun," a Netflix Original based on the American manga "Warrior Nun Areala." The series follows Ava (Alba Baptista), a young girl who's accidentally resurrected by an ancient Catholic relic and later joins a secret order of... well, warrior nuns. It was something of a cult hit, attracting fans who were hungry for queer representation and general female badassery on screen. Their love for "Warrior Nun" kept the series alive: the fans campaigned hard for another season of the series, and Netflix eventually obliged. Unfortunately, that same strategy wouldn't work for season 2.
"Warrior Nun" returned in November 2022, but its second season failed to meet Netflix's shrewd viewership standards.

In the world of film and TV, most people tend to think of the director as the one in charge of everything. While they play a huge role, it’s super important to remember that the screenwriter is also a key player in creating the project. Sometimes, the same person fills both roles, but often the director is just the director, and the writer is someone else entirely.
Still from Watchmen (Credits: Warner Bros. Pictures)
Zack Snyder was seen as a visionary from the beginning, but when Watchmen was released, that perception kind of changed. The movie didn’t resonate with the general audience, and many laid the blame on the director. However, it turns out that Snyder wasn’t responsible for the issues with the production at all. He merely directed the filming and had no role in developing the plot.

Kevin Feige may be president of Marvel Studios today, but he got his start in movie producing the first "X-Men" film in 2000. During "X-Men," Feige was one of the biggest Marvel Comics fans on the crew; he smuggled "X-Men" comics to the actors after director Bryan Singer banned them from the set. I'm sure Feige appreciates his time working on 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies (there must be a reason Marvel Studios has been trying to fit them in rather than doing a clean break), but he's steered the MCU in a more colorful direction.
At a press conference for "Deadpool & Wolverine" not too long ago, Feige mentioned one long-standing controversy among comic nerds: how "X-Men" put the heroes in dull black leather costumes instead of the colorful comic book suits. Feige confirmed, as has long been suggested, that these costume designs were trend-chasing "The Matrix". Feige recounted,...

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and since we covered the 1991 science fiction tokusatsu film The Guyver a couple of months ago, with this episode we’ve decided to circle back and take a look at the sequel to The Guyver, the 1994 release Guyver: Dark Hero (watch it Here) – also known as Guyver 2: Dark Hero, or, if you saw it in the Philippines, Predator 3. Zack Snyder is known for creating epic superhero movies based on the characters from DC Comics. So it's not surprising that the filmmaker chose Watchmen when asked to pick a favorite.
Speaking to ComicBook, Snyder explained why he picked the 2009 film, based on the limited series of the same name by Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore. "I would have to say Watchmen, probably for me, just like the process of adaptation from comic book to movie design, all the things as we went from comic books to movie," he said. "I think Watchmen is like the cleanest, and kind of most satisfying, transition to adapted material."

Ultron's return in Vision Quest means big things for the MCU going forward. Though he hasn't been seen since Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ultron's presence has been felt for years. Now, with Vision Quest on the way, it could capitalize on a story teased for years and give fans the scariest Avengers villain yet.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known for cleverly crafting a large story over the years with only a few minor hiccups, such as the Hulk originally being the villain in The Avengers before Loki. But the franchise, at this point, has also managed to set up narratives that even creators may not have realized were being set up at the time. One of the best examples of this came with the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3 that went over poorly enough with fans that it created a retcon that would later be the foundation...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has built an interesting foundation with its upcoming Thunderbolts* film. Its titular squad prominently features characters from 2021s Black Widow, including Taskmaster and Red Guardian, alongside Yelena Belovas debut with the Black Widow mantle. Its exciting to see these characters find continued success and carve out a legacy in the MCU, considering the time it took for them to get any screentime at all. A Black Widow solo film focusing on Scarlett Johanssons Natasha Romanoff was in the works for years. The previously mentioned feature even sat on the shelf for an extended period of time while Marvel worked to find a sensible release window within its timeline. But the femme fatales first modern movie attempt actually dates back even further.

Everybody loves and hates a good villain in a superhero movie as they have an innate knack for being both magnetic in personality and utterly terrifying in their actions. Villains like The Joker or Thanos always come to mind, but they aren't the only ones that have reeled in audiences with their evil rhetoric and nefarious plans. But depending on the enemy, their motivations could even sway those who root for the hero.
Although there are many parameters that make up why a viewer will like a villain, sometimes, one comes along and blows away the audience with their master plan. Despite how outrageously preposterous they seem, some evil schemes end up making sense, which comes as a complete shocker to the audience. From galactic annihilation to exposing the dark side of humanity, these evil plans have left the fans speechless.

X-Men films have long symbolized the struggle against discrimination and prejudice, reflecting real-world civil rights issues. X2: X-Men United was hailed as the "Gayest Movie" by star Alan Cumming due to its allegorical representation of queerness. Disney's intention to prioritize entertainment over messaging risks sidelining the powerful allegories present in the X-Men franchise.
The hidden messaging in X-Men movies has always been integral to the Marvel team's identity, but never more so than in 2024. The X-Men were introduced in Marvel Comics in 1963, with adaptations into other media starting as early as 1966. These adaptations culminated in X-Men: The Animated Series, which would be picked up on by one of Marvel Studios' best X-Men adaptations yet: X-Men '97. This series garnered huge praise for heavily leaning into motifs that have typified the X-Men since their genesis (as well as an unfortunate measure of criticism).

This series garnered huge praise for heavily leaning into motifs that have typified the X-Men since their genesis (as well as an unfortunate measure of criticism).

“X-Men” screenwriter David Hayter recently told TMZ that he is thrilled by Alan Cumming’s recent revelation that the 2003 sequel “X2: X-Men United” is the “gayest film” the actor has ever worked on in his career. Cumming starred as the mutant Nightcrawler in the comic book movie. Hayter, who had sole screenwriting credit on the original “X-Men” movie, co-wrote the “X2” script with Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris.
“I was thrilled Alan Cumming called ‘X2’ the gayest film he’d ever worked on. It made me really happy,” Hayter said. “I’m so glad we did right by him. He’s such an icon for gay rights. Ian McKellen also really recognized the allegory of it from a gay perspective.”
Hayter added that the team’s goal for the “X-Men” movies was to appeal to “anyone who faced hatred or exclusion or judgement and still felt compelled to do the right thing.

X2: X-Men United was released in 2003 to glowing reviews and, in a recent interview, Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming described it as "the gayest film that I've ever done."
The actor would go on to praise the fact it was directed by a queer director and starred other queer actors, saying the franchise "[helped] people understand queerness, because you can address it in an artistic way, and everyone is less scared of the concept."
It's no secret that filmmaker Bryan Singer set out to use the X-Men as a means of highlighting bigotry (and the experience of coming out), and writer David Hayter has now shared his enthusiasm for Cumming's take on the iconic team.
"I was thrilled when I heard that Alan Cumming had called X2 the gayest film that he had ever worked on," he told TMZ. "Yeah, it made me really happy. I was so glad that we had done right by him.

When X2, the thrilling follow-up to X-Men (2000), burst into theaters in 2003, could anyone have predicted the everlasting impact it would leave on the superhero genre? Triumphantly applauded for its head-turning action sequences, compelling storyline, and strong script, Bryan Singer’s movie soared beyond mere entertainment to become a cultural touchstone.
Aside from its cinematic prowess, X2—starring Hugh Jackman & Alan Cumming—struck a deep chord with its empathetic nods to outcasts, teens, gays, and minorities. The latter’s praise for the film as one of the “gayest” projects he has worked on mirrors its nuanced approach, which co-writer David Hayter tackled with heartfelt intentionality, as he gladly shared in a recent TMZ interview.

Furthermore, X2’s underlying allegories of societal exclusion and the search for dignity & respect in adversity were deliberate strokes of writing genius, a meaningful allegory that even Ian McKellen could see from a mile away.

Actor Alan Cumming recently called X2 the "gayest film" he's ever made. This couldn't make David Hayter, one of the film's co-writers, any more thrilled.
Along with praising how X2 had a queer director and actors, Cumming had addressed the movie as an "allegory about queerness." Hayter has responded to these comments in a new interview with TMZ, feeling happy that Cumming appreciated what the filmmakers were going for. Hayter further confirmed that the allegory was intentionally done.

Alan Cumming can be recognized by X-Men fans for his role as Nightcrawler in the 2003 sequel X2: X-Men United. Looking back, the veteran actor feels that the movie is the "gayest" film he's appeared in.
Cumming spoke about his role in X2 during a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. He commented on how the movie was important because it had a queer director at the helm along with several queer cast members. For his part, Cumming is happy that the film was able to have so much involvement from the LGBTQ+ community, even as a mainstream property. He also said how he hoped that this aspect helped make people "less scared" of queerness.

Some fans feel the new animated adaptation of Watchmen is unnecessary and lacks originality compared to the live-action film. In 2009, Zack Snyder made his foray into the DC Universe with Watchmen, basing it directly on the 1986–1987 DC Comics limited series of the same name. Adapting a grim storyline of a dystopian nature posed its own set of challenges and forced the filmmaker to take concrete steps to address issues within the plot.
Additionally, he led a slew of creative decisions, from casting to the color palette, which went on to become some of his signature elements in the coming installments of his then-upcoming full-fledged DC Extended Universe.

In a manner similar to what he did with Man of Steel, the 300 director altered the tone of the plot to suit his version of the adaptation better and, once again, stirred a debate with a hotly debated ending. The conclusion of the dystopian flick involved a significant departure from the comics.

Wolverine's iconic quotes showcase his fierceness and character development throughout the X-Men franchise. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of Wolverine brings depth and emotion to the character's powerful lines. The evolution of Wolverine's quotes reflects his journey from a weapon to a hero with a strong moral compass in spite of his darkness.
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has had some iconic quotes across his various movie appearances. Having first debuted in 2000's X-Men, Jackman's Wolverine has one of the most impressive legacies in the entire superhero movie genre. As such, it's fun to look back at some of his most epic lines, especially considering his tenure is not yet complete 24 years later.
Although he's much more a hero of action than words, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine still has some incredible lines throughout his multi-film legacy. That said, a good portion of them either occur just before or often during a fight. Keeping that in mind,...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of today's most popular and successful movie stars, and it all began with an appearance in 2001's The Mummy Returns. The film marked the acting debut of Johnson, who first rose to fame as one of the biggest stars in the world of professional wrestling.
In a new interview with THR, director Stephen Sommers looked back on the casting of Johnson as Mathayus Akkad, aka The Scorpion King. As Sommers was apparently not a fan of wrestling at the time, he had not yet heard of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson when the pro wrestler had been cast. However, the director realized pretty quickly upon watching footage of The Rock in action that the casting was "perfect." He also remembered how little time he had to shoot Johnson's scene, as well as where the idea for Johnson's own spinoff film came from.

The video game autuer Hideo Kojima has never failed to surprise fans with his work. Too bad several of his ideas didn’t come to fruition. The Metal Gear Solid creator once desired to develop a zombie game, unlike the typical games in the genre we see today. It has long been reported that Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise almost starred in Warner Bros.' Watchmen adaptation as Ozymandias. Zack Snyder, who directed the 2009 movie, recently confirmed that he had met with Cruise about the role, but that it didn't work out because the actor wanted to play a different superhero who had already been cast.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, Snyder confirmed that he had "wanted Tom Cruise for Ozymandias," but that "Tom wanted to play Rorschach. I mean, obviously, he could have done." Unfortunately for Cruise, Snyder had already cast Jackie Earle Haley as the masked vigilante. "But yeah, we had Jackie already, and Jackie is like, unbelievable," Snyder added. "I mean, but I certainly would have considered Tom, in retrospect, if I hadn't had Jackie."

Hmm… it seems that Zack Snyder’s Watchmen wasn’t so controversial after all. Although the film was great to every extent, it simply felt too modern for audiences who were just starting to fall in love with superhero movies like Iron Man.
Despite being an underrated film, many directors were involved with the project long before Zack Snyder took the reins. Notable among them was The Bourne Supremacy director Paul Greengrass and his idea of the opening scene of Watchmen was dark dark!

15 years after its theatrical release, Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" occupies a curious spot in the history of comic book superhero cinema. While bleak blockbusters like "Dune: Part Two" and "Oppenheimer" might be all the rage in 2024, that wasn't the case when Snyder's film arrived in 2009. The success of "Iron Man" a year earlier signaled a shift in audiences' tastes. The brooding, auteur-led offerings of the 2000s (like "Hulk" and "The Dark Knight") would soon after give way to the studio-mandated crowd-pleasing spectacles of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Snyder's relentlessly downbeat and violent interpretation of writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons' equally grim milestone graphic novel suddenly felt wildly out of tempo with the genre, as did his subsequent vision for the now-kaput DC Extended Universe.

Warning: this post will contain spoilers for Zack Snyder's "Watchmen."
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1986 comic book classic "Watchmen" takes place in the then-present but also in a parallel universe wherein Richard Nixon is still president in the '80s. "Watchmen" took its cues from the superhero comics of the late 1930s while extrapolating history forward, asking what the world would look like if such fantastical beings actually came to be at that time. Naturally, conflicts like the Vietnam War would have ended differently, technology would have advanced by leaps and bounds ... and corruption would've still run rampant. Nixon, thanks to the positive outcome of the Vietnam War, was able to stay in office by repealing term limits. By 1977, however, public opinion had turned against super-vigilantes, and their existence was banned.
Moore and Gibbons were clearly making a comment on the rampant Reagan/Thatcher conservatism that was rolling high in the U.

Konami last year announced something really incredible for the fans: the remake of Metal Gear Solid. The 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will have a remake with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which has no release date confirmed at the moment.
But Konami is promoting the franchise with a couple of videos on YouTube about Mgs history with the voice of Solid Snake itself, David Hayter. These videos are about the legacy of the Metal Gear franchise in gaming and how its own genre brings stealth to videogames.

Metal Gear Solid, the stealth series, is one of the most popular game franchises out there, and the renowned creator and gaming auteur Hideo Kojima has been at the forefront of it. But the fallout between Konami and Kojima has seen the publisher distance his name from the series.
Konami recently released Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 and brought back the classic games. It has now released a video series to recap the Mgs series but has once again disrespected Kojima and snubbed the mention of his name during the recap.

There are few characters in pop culture cooler than Snake Plissken from John Carpenter's sci-fi classic "Escape From New York." Played by the also impossibly cool Kurt Russell, Plissken is a former U.S. Army Special Forces lieutenant who served in World War III before being wounded and becoming a criminal. In "Escape From New York," he's offered the chance at a pardon by the feds if he can carry out a dangerous rescue mission in Manhattan, which has been turned into a massive prison. Russell would reprise the role in 1996 in order to reteam with frequent collaborator Carpenter on "Escape from L.A.," which sees Snake playing basketball for his life and surfing the L.A. river. Then, around 2004, he had the chance to voice another character named Snake who looks an awful lot like Plissken, but he turned it down.

Actor Kurt Russell recently acknowledged the rumor about the actor turning down the job of voicing Solid Snake in Hideo Kojima’s stealth video game series Metal Gear. The character in the video game was reportedly inspired by Russell’s character, Snake Plissken, in 1981’s Escape from New York. The first game in the series, Metal Gear, was released in 1987.

The main reason why Russell turned down the role is because he wasn’t interested in making money off the character. Since he is a “movie guy,” he was interested in finding something new to work on rather than accepting an offer that “expands” the character. On top of that, Russell wasn’t ready to work without Escape from New York’s director John Carpenter.

Professor X and Magneto worked together, using the Brotherhood to show mutant goodness in contrast from X-Men onward. Logan secretly endures blame for the X-Men massacre to protect Charles from guilt and relieve their pain in Logan. Deadpool's and Kitty Pryde's time-traveling antics caused X-Men timeline inconsistencies across the Fox franchise.
Fox's X-Men franchise has made an indelible mark on the superhero genre after running for nearly two decades (before joining the MCU), so it's no surprise that so many convincing fan theories have arisen during that time that change everything on a rewatch. X-Men kicked off the franchise in 2000, bringing the iconic Marvel team to the big screen before Fox and Sony would go on to dominate the superhero genre throughout the 00s. After 13 movies, the X-Men franchise still evokes enough nostalgia that the MCU will be leaning into it heavily by the time Deadpool & Wolverine releases.
