Peter Hawkins in Docteur Who (1963)

Trivia

Peter Hawkins

Edit
  • He was originally going to provide the voice for Gromit in Wallace et Gromit : Une grande excursion (1989) but director Nick Park decided that Gromit was actually quite expressive as a silent character, using facial expressions to communicate.
  • He survived the sinking of H.M.S. Limbourne at Sept Isles, Canada in 1943.
  • His son, Silas Hawkins, is also an actor and voice-over artist.
  • He was one of the earliest Dalek voice actors on the long-running science fiction series Docteur Who (1963), contributing to several stories featuring the first two Doctors, William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. Nicholas Briggs argued that Hawkins is one of the three most influential Dalek voice actors, along with David Graham and Roy Skelton, with Hawkins being his favourite.
  • Nicholas Briggs described Hawkins as "THE voice of the 60s" for his work on numerous series.
  • Officially retired in 1992 due to complications following surgery; was temporarily brought out of retirement to reprise the role of Money in the Access adverts, as well as to provide voice-overs for VCI promos.
  • Met wife Rosemary Miller through voicing Ernest the Policeman in Toytown (1956).
