Joey D. Vieira, Young Actor on ‘Lassie,’ Dies at 80
Image
Joey D. Vieira, who portrayed the farm boy Sylvester “Porky” Brockway on the first four seasons of the long-running CBS series Lassie, has died. He was 80.

Vieira died Monday — the day before his birthday — in hospice care, his Lassie co-star Jon Provost announced on Facebook.

Viera also appeared in some notable films, among them Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), Red Heat (1988) and The Patriot (2000).

Billed as Donald Keeler — his aunt was Ruby Keeler, who starred in Warner Bros. musicals — Vieira appeared on 91 episodes of Lassie from 1954-57. At the start, the show revolved around the Miller family — Tommy Rettig as Jeff, Jan Clayton as his mom, Ellen, and George Cleveland as Gramps — living on a farm with their collie.

London Film Festival Review: ‘Munich: The Edge Of War’
Image
Two friends try to prevent a war in Munich: The Edge Of War, a thought-provoking Netflix period drama premiering at the BFI London Film Festival.

We first meet Hugh Legat (George MacKay) and Paul Hartman (Jannis Niewöhner) in 1932 when they are carefree students at Oxford University, swilling champagne and rolling around in the grass at a drunken party. Cut to London, six years later, and the mood is grim: Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (Jeremy Irons) is trying to find a peaceful solution. Hugh is now a civil servant, and has the ear of the Pm.

Meanwhile, Paul is a diplomat in his home of Germany, and comes into possession of important documents that could help the British government. As the two prepare for a clandestine meeting in Munich during the emergency conference, flashbacks fill us in on more of their past, and the tension mounts.

First Decoding Annie Parker Trailer Featuring Samantha Morton and Helen Hunt, Plus the First Clip in Which Aaron Paul Shows off His Dance Skills
Steven Bernstein's drama Decoding Annie Parker recently made its debut at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, and now the film's first trailer and clip are available online. The film stars Samantha Morton as the title character, a woman stricken with breast cancer who works with oncologist Dr. Mary-Claire King (Helen Hunt) in order to explore the theory of a genetic inheritance of cancer. While the trailer gives a good suggestion of the surprisingly light-hearted tone of this true-to-life cancer-themed picture, the first clip (courtesy of Aaron Paul) is just downright strange out of context from the rest of the film, but enjoyable nonetheless. Decoding Annie Parker also stars Rashida Jones, Alice Eve, Maggie Grace, Corey Stoll, and Ben McKenzie, and opens in limited release on May 2nd. Take a look at our interviews with Paul and Grace about the picture here. Hit the jump to watch the Decoding Annie Parker...
