A former model, the luminously beautiful Dorothy Hart was signed to a contract by Universal Pictures after having made only one film, Columbia's La Vallée maudite (1947). After that she did westerns, costume dramas, prison sagas, Tarzan movies, and the cult classic I Was a Communist for the F.B.I. (1951). However, she soon left the film business in 1952, moved to New York and did occasional guest spots on TV dramas and game shows. She was very active in working through the United Nations for the world's children.

  • Quotes
Acting wasn't enough. I felt some of the movies were mediocre. I wanted to do something important with my life, so I began working with the American Association for the United Nations. It was very, very fulfilling. I'll never regret having given up Hollywood for it.
