Intro: Comedies involving a central pair of main characters usually have one thing in common; their premise is generally very simple. Take 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, for example. The Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels all-time classic comedy, in which two hapless, hopeless losers attempt to return a suitcase full of cash to its rightful owner, thrives on how simple both the plot and the two main characters are. The Farrellys had an amazing knack in the 1990s for delivering comedies that were hilarious because they had a simple idea for the plot, plus they weren’t worried about upsetting anybody with outrageous sequences. Those were the days. You couldn’t produce mainstream comedies such as Me, Myself and Irene, Kingpin or There’s Something About Mary nowadays, for fear of upsetting someone.

Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Invisible Man – Universal has brought them all back to the screen in the decades since their glory days in the 1930s and ’40s. But one classic Universal monster who hasn’t had a new movie since the 1950s is the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a.k.a. the Gill Man. The closest we’ve gotten is the unofficial version of the creature that was seen in the 1987 classic The Monster Squad… but last month, it was reported that genre regular James Wan and his production company Atomic Monster are developing “a grounded modernized retelling” of Creature from the Black Lagoon that will lean into “visceral horror while paying respect to the original classic.” Now, Deadline has learned that this Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot will be written by Sean Tretta.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito stole the show at the Oscars with some hilarious Batman roasting. Fans are eager for the Twins stars to reunite on screen despite setbacks in their sequel plans. Schwarzenegger, DeVito, and Keaton's banter delighted audiences and sparked hopes for future collaborations.
A reunion between Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger on Oscars night, with an unexpected twist that brought Michael Keaton into their presenting stint, led to one of the best moments of the 2024 ceremony. While the banter can sometimes be a little stunted, that was certainly not the case when the Twins stars took to the stage and ended up roasting the original big screen Batman. Watch the video above.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and his "twin" Danny DeVito are back together again.
In 1988, Schwarzenegger and DeVito co-starred in Twins, a comedy film that imagined the two actors as twins separated at birth, despite their physical differences. 35 years later, Schwarzenegger saw DeVito and his daughter, Lucy DeVito, in the Broadway show I Need That. After the show, the three took a picture together, with Schwarzenegger subsequently sharing an image of the reunion on X.

Eddie Murphy continues to revisit and revive hit projects from early in his career, with an upcoming sequels to Beverly Hills Cop. Dan Aykroyd has generated a sequel idea for his 1983 hit movie with Murphy and has submitted it to Paramount, expressing confidence in its quality. The satirical nature of the original film, which takes aim at Reagan-era capitalism, could be updated to target today's billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, providing rich material for a revived Murphy-Aykroyd pairing.
A critically-acclaimed 1983 comedy starring Eddie Murphy gets an encouraging sequel update from co-star Dan Aykroyd. Since surprisingly returning to SNL for the first time in 35 years in 2019, Murphy has continued a trend of revisiting hit projects from early in his career. 2021 saw the release of Coming 2 America, the long-delayed sequel to his 1988 hit Coming to America, and 2024 will see the release of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, the third...

Trading Places remains a highlight in the careers of stars Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis. A riff on the timeless Prince and the Pauper tale, it was a smash hit in the summer of 1983, ranking fourth for the year, only beaten by Return of the Jedi, Terms of Endearment and Flashdance. It became a staple of video stores and cable and is also an unheralded holiday classic, taking place around Christmas and New Year’s.

One of the most inventive comedies of all time is director Ivan Reitman's 1988 buddy adventure Twins starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as - you guessed it - twins separated at birth. The movie is one of the great examples of a killer high-concept idea, and a sequel seemed like a given. But it never happened. That said, is there still a chance another film may come to fruition? Well, while out and about promoting Tim Burton's recent live-action remake of the Disney classic Dumbo co-star Danny DeVito talked a bit about the rumors circling a possible sequel Triplets co-starring Eddie Murphy.
Danny DeVito says this.
"Everybody would be up for it. The main thing is you have to have a screenplay. We're looking. We're figuring it out."
So what could the film be? There have been rumors flying back and forth for years now that a potential...

Good god, it’s been what seems like a lifetime since I last saw Pure Luck. I’m not even sure it previously made the leap from VHS, where I first saw it back in the early 90s, to DVD here in the UK. Back when the film was first released both Danny Glover and Martin Short could do no wrong. Glover was riding high off the success of the Lethal Weapon franchise, scoring lead roles in Predator 2 and Flight of the Intruder; whilst Short had scored back-to-back hits with Innerspace and Three Fugitives… Well I say do no wrong, but maybe that should have read “could have” done no wrong, given the bad reception afforded this comedy…

Freddie Highmore voices Astro Boy in Astro Boy
Photo: Summit Entertainment It takes some serious talent to make an animated film this bad. With that considered I must give kudos to the folks at Imagi Studios for creating the mess that is Astro Boy. Then again, perhaps the blame should more appropriately fall on the shoulders of director David Bowers and his co-writer Timothy Harris as they set out to make a movie with a story so stupid, so lacking in humanity and so outright boring it's a surprise Summit would have ever even thought to come within 100 feet of this garbage.
As I try to do with most films, I only had a general idea of Astro Boy's premise before walking into the theater. A scientist by the name of Dr. Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) builds a robot son with all the latest technology including the ability to fly,...

Toby's willful nature proves problematic in that he must involuntarily trade his human form for an exterior complete with rocket boosters and other accoutrements befitting a robot. Banished by his father (Nicholas Cage), Toby embarks on a journey beyond the confines of Metro City, a levitating utopian society gone awry. He hopes to find his place among the inhabitants of a long since discarded Earth, now used as a trash heap for derelict electronics. The first Astro Boy trailer is already out, but we at Screen Rant never posted it because apparently I’m the only Astro Boy enthusiast on staff, and I didn’t know the trailer was out until yesterday. No matter though, for those of you who have been curious about how the CGI adaptation of Astro Boy is shaping up, I have the trailer solely for your viewing pleasure.

And ok, maybe this trailer doesn’t give you all the robot-on-robot smackdown action we’ve been promised Astro Boy is going to deliver, but it does a good job of showing you who the loveable main character is (Astro Boy), what he’s all about (roboting it up...

Though earlier rumors suggested that "Astro Boy" has been shut down because of cash flow problems, the CG animated movie is still on the course to be released on the planned date. Addressing the issue to IO9, Imagi U.S. president Erin Corbett claimed that the studio's priority is to make sure that the feature film adaptation of the Japanese anime will see the big screens.
Though admitting that the production has to be halted temporarily, she further noted that studio has planned to resume production as soon as the new round of financing comes in on February 3. "Our number one objective is to get back on the rails," Corbett insisted when talking about the future of the David Bowers-directed animation. "We want to do everything to get Astro Boy out the door."

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming CGI adaptation of long-running anime series Astro Boy has finally hit the Web and it looks…pretty cool, actually.
If you haven’t seen any of the Astro Boy TV series that have come and gone since the 1950’s, the story tells of a distant future in which a brilliant inventor (voiced by Nicholas Cage) creates the world’s ultimate battle robot in the guise of his dead son. Hoping to win his “father’s” numbed affections, Astro Boy sets off on a heroic journey, battling other robot gladiators and defending Metro City from the villains who would destroy it. He even manages to find a girlfriend along the way (voiced by queen of the fanboys, Kristen Bell).
Check out the Trailer.

Astro Boy was the first Japanese cartoon brought to America and paved the way for all other anime and Manga that followed. Created for Japanese comics in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka, the robot took flight in 193 animated episodes beginning in 1959. Some 103 were translated into English for American television and played throughout the 1960s as Astro Boy since NBC executives thought Mighty Atom; the more literal translation was too generic.
Ever since, he has remained an icon of Japanese culture and has been revived numerous times. Imagi Studios is producing a CGI version of Astro Boy and Summit Entertainment has announced that it will open on October 23, 2009, on a whopping will 3,000 North American.
With a release of this scope, it’s no surprise that the movie will be supported with a plethora of merchandise such as toys, games, and books.
